Zonda R Bags Nurburgring Record

Pagani beats Ferrari's 599XX Nordschleife record

A Pagani Zonda R has this morning set a new Nurburgring Nordschleife lap record, completing the 13-mile circuit in 6mins 47secs.

The previous record for a 'road-based car' was 6mins 58secs, set as recently as April by the Ferrari 599XX.

With just fifteen examples of the 1.5 million-euro track car being built, the Zonda R is one of the most extreme and exclusive Italian supercars ever. It weighs just 1070kg, and its 6.0-litre competition-derived V12 develops 740bhp and 524lb ft of torque.

That's enough to propel it to 62mph in less than 2.7secs and on to 218mph. And a very quick Nurburgring time...

Fantastico and scorchio mamma mia bravo!! Ferrari eclipsed again but this time by a hometown boy. Now that Fernando Alonso is back on planet earth, hasn't Lewis got under his skin and in his mind. Of course Ferrari never cheat like Benneton and Renault and after all filming at Maranello is not having a free practice session with the new exhaust system is it?

Well at least you get to buy it and take it home and not have to leave it at the factory like Ferrari FXX etc so on that basis it is a road car not a buy and store car (which most Ferrari's seem to be these days anyway.
PS my 911 has done 175,000 miles in 20 years-that's a road car!

Porsche 962 was never a road car the Dauer is not legally a Porsche. Pagani have made enough of these to satisfy the rules and so are the current leaders of fastest road car round the ring.
You can drive Zonda's every day ask EVO's Harry Metcalfe-he has one, not an R but it does have shopping room. Meanwhile I think you are all right irrelevant to everyday motoring but it is certainly a halo car for the Zonda range. What comes next from Pagani? Has anyone seen a prototype of the next car? On the subject of supercars, wouldn't we all be bored if they vanished for ever.
I hope a Zonda is at Festival of Speed -Zonda Tricolore is rumoured-has it ben confirmed?
See you all there. My 20 year old 964 is looking forward to meeting old chums.

To all the Radical supporters just how is a Radical like a road car. Just a tin can with a hole for the driver. The Pagani is based on a real true road car you can own and although beauty is subjective Radical is plug ugly compared to any Zonda.
