UK to Austria in April

Chaps (and lady chaps),

I am appealing for your expertise in planning a little road trip next year. My dad and I so enjoyed our little jaunt to Monza in 2012 that we're going to repeat but this time we're off to the Rechberg Hillclimb in Austria. It's in April so we're not expecting to be able to do a vast litany of high passes but hope that we can find some cool roads nevertheless.

Very briefly: we're considering a Hull - Zeebrugge ferry and then cruising down through Germany, taking in a couple of places we missed out on during the last trip. I believe the Tour Auto will be taking place the week after the Rechberg so we may try to catch a stage / race of that somewhere on the way back like Dijon but otherwise we're free agents and happy to head wherever is fun.

So, where would you recommend? We'll be in the old man's V8 Vantage rather than my old Exige so happy to spend the odd hour at three figures on an autobahn if it helps us get somewhere awesome. Bonus points for motor racing-related activities en route.
