I'm heading up to the Lake District in a couple weeks, and was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on this route I found on Google.

I will be in a Mk5 Golf Gti, so ideal for twisty A/B roads, and I'm fully prepared for the traffic/wildlife! I should have time to add in the Struggle Straight, as I'm based in Grizedale for 3 nights smile

I was just putting different searches into google and it came up. Cheers for making the route, made planning so much easier!

Cheers! I nearly ended up going to Wales for about the 100th time, it'll be great to explore somewhere new!

May be of use after the floods in winter.

All good stuff. A nice mix of A & B roads plus some narrow and challenging unclassifieds.
Takes in all the major passes plus Newlands which is often overlooked.

My favourite section is Boot to Skelwith Bridge. One of the slowest but the scenery is magnificent.

Those views look incredible!

Btw this is my slight detour home, hopefully there won't be any fog on Buttertubs like last time I was there. Could barely see 20 yards!

Well my trip to the lakes has been and gone, and despite some horrible weather and a satnav that nearly got launched out the window, it was a great trip. My Garmin seems to have a habbit of creating way points on routes I have made myself, which I can't skip. Theres no way i'm driving 500 yards down a bridleway then turning back! so in the end I just used my map and aimed for anything twisty and which had "pass" in it's title!

This is what I did on the Wednesday, including a stop off at the Lakeland Motor Museum, which is well worth a look.

Then on Thursday I did a mix of mountain biking in Grizedale and Whinlatter forest, taking in the Honister Pass on the way back.

The roads are incredible and far bumpier and twistier than any pictures of videos could prepare me for! The blind crests on Hardknott and Wrynose passes made it so hard to see where the road even went! Good fun though!

The only bad thing is the speed of the traffic, which seems to have a self enforced speed limit of 30 in a 60mph zone! Saying that though loads of people were very kind and waved me past, it's shame more people in Devon can't be like that!

I shall upload some pics at some point, though they are not quite as nice and sunny as the ones above!

Nope not me, but cheers for the recomendation of the road, it was a lot of fun! Shame Ulpha to Bank end was mostly spent at sub 20mph, behind some muppet who was driving down the middle of the road!

The sun did shine, while I was out on the bike around Grizedale Forest! Nice trails, but very expensive parking!

The detour home via the Yorkshire Dales was a lot of fun, barely got stuck behind any cars. Infact the only drama was some kamikaze Geese on the B6479 to settle. This road and Buttertubs was incredible!

So to summarise, they were all amazing roads, but I would never visit in the summer! Windermere was crazy busy and the roads are fun and twisty, but far too hard to pass on!

Cheers to all who gave me info for the trip!
