I've recently been to Budapest and they still have entire buildings missing from the Second World War and subsequent Soviet occupation. This does lead to lots of yards. I like a good yard, particularly if it has a 15 year old executive saloon and an Alsatian pulling at a chain in it.
Go a few roads back from the main drag and you can forget entirely about our high streets having a shop or two empty, they have entire strips of disused shops. I'd take our infrastructure every day of the week. I did enjoy seeing the odd old Skoda and Lada on the street though. People were nice too.
