hello i have been a long time lurker and finaly got my first car today it needs a bit of looking after and it failed its MOT yesterday so does need some work done but it will be fine but i don't have my full licance yet so i have a month or 2 to get it looking good.
its a 1.6 Honda Civic EP2 in milano red.
i havent yet had time to take any pics so i only have the pics i was given by the seller of the car but they shal do for now smile.

The paint work needs a good bit of work as somone has clearly keyed it and the paint is slightly faded in most areas so it appears pinkish. not sure how to sort it as i cannot afford a respray

What kind of Insurance prices are you looking at for it? Jap cars seem to be really expensive on insurance.
actualy the insurance for this is surprisingly cheap when i was looking for cars these always came top for being cheap i looked at 1.2 clios and that was going to be £1500 on a provisional even looked at a 1.0 micra (i dident want it i was just checking for the sake of it) the price for that was £2000 for some strange reason but today got the car insured and its only £911 fully comp on a provisional.

Type R wheels are 5 stud, so won't fit.

We have a similar car, Civic 1.6 but 5dr auto, it isn't a bad thing at all. Has the timing belt been changed on yours?
Standard wheels would be 6Jx15, with 195/60R15 tyres.

They aren't bad cars, but compared to a Focus the steering is dead.

A good polish might improve the paint somewhat?
i was told that it would need machine polished to bring the paint back to life so not sure how much that would cost. and not sure if the timing belt has been done it was a bit of a strange sale as the guy i got it from had his mate do all the service's and well i have only really checked the cabin filter so far as weather hasnt been that great and lets just say that hasnt been changed in a long time.

Do one. Just... away and do one.

Congratulations, OP. I had one of these, and it's a slippery slope - as soon as insurance allowed I was off to a DC5! Enjoy it - I loved my wee EP2 smile
what do you mean its a slippery slope? as in once you go honda you never go back? haha i love DC5's i would quite like a EK9 of a FD2 (wishful thinking)

I think the alloys look alright in terms of style, just a bit small - they don't really fill the arches. I'd lose the tints though. Other than that, nice little car - the 3dr ones of these look so much better than the 5drs, and I've always thought that the red is a fantastic colour on them.
like i said the alloys look alot better when you see the actual car the pics dont do much justice to them. and i agree the 3dr looks alot better than the 5dr i just dont like the rear end on the 5dr. and yea i think the red suits the pre-facelift.

So cheap to run! Never has any advisories on the MOT (ours is very low mileage though), cheap tax, cheap insurance, good 40mpg, cheap motoring! A lot of car for the money now.
haha well its failed its MOT on a few things and it has quite a few advisories so will get as much as i can sorted my brother-in-law is going to sort the failures and then put it through a mot for me. and yea i alot of car for £1200 i paid was originally £1500 but because it failed mot he took £300 off the price as that's what he was quoted for repairs.

Get over to epcivic, will give you lots of ideas and the for sale section is great.

There's plenty of things you can do to it mods wise, I had a spoon n1 with decat modded to fit an ep2, aem short ram induction kit, gave it a bit more poke and sounded a lot better.
im already on epcivic smile name is just dave91 on there, yea i would love to get a spoon N1 on it i need to do something with the exhaust i mean car has sport written on it and there's this tiny exhaust sticking out the back just wont do lol.

Very nice first car!

I think it may need lowering before them alloys suit wink Just look at the arch gap! I could get my fist leg in there.
yea would be nice to get it lowered but that costs more money frown lol something i lack at the moment.

You'll be doing it in Montrose yeah? Who are you doing lessons with? If they and you are willing try the Altens test centre, much shorter waiting times. I know what you mean about the bus trips though, the girlfriend lives on dunlappie road and she leaves just after 6 to get to college in Aberdeen for 9!
nah forfar, montrose waiting time was end of august and found one for 26th of july in forfar if my instructor let me do it in aberdeen i could have it done by now as theres no waiting times up there. n arsed with that im going to arbroath college decided against going back to aberdeen since i moved down here thought arbroath would be a better choice

Just for future reference, it's easier to unclip the arch liner and go in that way to change the indicator and headlight bulbs.

If you ever buy a DC5, prepare to get rage, that's a bumper off job!
i always thought lights were simple to change and it was a job you could do at the side of the road if you needed lol clearly not.

Get some lowering springs on it and the wheels will suit, I say springs alone as I spent a grand on coil overs for my Pulsar and as much as they made the car handle like it was on rails I ended up selling it a year or so later and lost so much cash on it. As its your first do not invest too much into it because you will eventually want bigger and better and that will come sooner than later.
yea im not gonna put any money into it atm im going to take the wheels off and put them back to standard for insurance purpose's only things that i will change will be small things such as speakers, head unit just general interior changes probably.

also today i lost a L plate it flew off somewhere chances are its past Edzell woods towards the fettercairn scrappy or something.

today i changed the registration lights on the back as 1 was a dud so got that lit up again i would like to get some white ones instead of the dull yellowish dirty looking ones but not sure where to get them.

gave the car a quick wash and hoover out today didnt get pics and by the time i finished the weather got a bit dull and then decided to brighten up again but by that time couldn't be bothered going out to take pics. i will be sure to get some but as im a learner i cant really take the car to any nice places to take pics.
i have now odered a LED set that include 3 interior bulbs (2 front 1 rear) 2 number plate LED bulbs 1 Boot Light and 2 LED side lights all in white. for £9 from a trader on epcivic.com i also order a D1 Spec Gear Knob for £15.
now i need to get some floor mats as when i got the car the last owner had put a flowery drivers side floor mat in..... that's gotta go soon.

May have missed in the thread but, whats away to be sorted? Mastrick may not be the nicest place but that doesnt guarantee your car will be damaged! smile
its away getting suspension arms and ball joints done as that's what it failed its MOT on although still drives fine. but my brother-in-law has taken it upon himself to order things for the car that i didn't ask him to so gonna cost more money but at least it will be fixed.
and true mastrick might not be the best area but its my first car im entitled to worry about it when its not in my sight.

Chrome indicator bulbs and a red Honda H badge would finish it off bud! smile
i spotted your car tonight parked in edzell wasnt sure i saw the silver fiesta and wondered but the reg matches your profile pic so yea i saw ya.
yea that would be nice not sure about the red honda badge's though they are rather misleading to other people haha.

got all the breaks done and gave the calipers a splash of paint so nice red ones now.
last thing to do now is get the paint work up to scratch but it costs far to much to get that done i have been quoted £900 just to get the scratches fixed.... bit much for that tbh.
car needs a machine polish to bring it back to life but sadly i down own one and i dont really want to spend money on one if its very rarely gonna get used.
