I am now blessed with a delightful sun-fade red Peugeot 405 Mi16, which I purchased blind on eBay for £255. I then paid a further £260 (£5 whole pound more than the car) to transport it 444 miles from Irvine to Southampton. It arrived at 7.30am this morning, and it managed to move itself all of 200 yards onto my driveway where it currently resides under a cover because the leaks. This also included negotiating a precarious drop curb, which was at least 6 inches in height.
Does it look like a bit of a banger...yes
Can I open the drivers door...no
Has it got water in the footwell....yes
Did I have to remove the water with a glass...yes
Has it got a pink rear quarter, and excessive lacquer peel on the bonnet....yes
It is gash inside...yes
Can I drive it....no
Does it rock....fk yeah
Let the restoration commence, and get this back on the road!

After giving the car a proper going over with my mate Rich, I have concluded that it is awesome, and deserves many hours of love and attention.
The list of jobs is as follows.
1. Make drivers door work
2. Transport to Southways Automotive
3. Purchase MOT failure sheet
4. Make passenger door work
5. Prevent precipitation from encroaching on cockpit area
6. Remove gash wheels, kill with fire. Fit original 405 Mi16 15 inch alloys.
7. Replace timing-belt prior to annihilation of 16 large valves.
8. Replace leaking fuel pipe before it kills itself and me with fire (hot fire)
9. Replace front and rear discs and pads
10. Service
11. Fill French holes with metal
12. Purchase cone air filter to bring more noise (most important)
13. Fix remaining MOT failures
14. Take for 2nd test (having missed free retest within 10 working days)
15. Contact Woman to seek forgiveness. Cat misses her
16. Drive of my life
What could possibly go wrong....

My first job was to try and remove some of the water from the footwell, using a combination of the glass on page 1, and newspaper.
The second job was to start trying to clean the interior a bit. It was pretty minging.
After quite a few of these...
It started to look a bit better. The tapedeck was an added bonus. Shame the face is missing.
I also removed the rest of the headlining.

I then gave this pillar a wee bit of polish, and it came up surprisingly well
Then I got hungry.

That looks identical to the one i had 5/6 yrs ago, even down to the issue with the door, roof lining and out of place alloys. If you have a set of locking nuts on there with one slightly rounded of then it definitly is (previous owner never supplied the key i never removed them before i flogged it)
Great cars i have had two of them so far and would love to have another, couple of points i would be wary of:
Check whether it has the electronic abs these are meant to have a fail safe, mine just tried to kill me, rip the thing out if it goes wrong and the pedal box and servo from a TD is a direct swap.
Both of mine suffered from fuel starvation if there was less than quarter of a tank and your pushing it around corners, so keep it topped up,
Good to see another being kept alive might be french but when it hits full power at 6500 rpm there great fun to drive. Have fun!
The registration hasn't changed, just the placing of the letters. It still has G188 YAD on the windows.Great cars i have had two of them so far and would love to have another, couple of points i would be wary of:

It doesn't seem to have ABS either. We looked last night but saw no light or abs module in the engine bay.

The citroen Pneumatic rear suspension can be a pig to fix too.
Share parts with the Citroen BX16
That was only fitted to the MI16x4, not the standard 2wd version I have.Share parts with the Citroen BX16
I have just placed an order with Opie Oils for some blood for the car.
Current costings are as follows:
Purchase price £255.00
6ltrs of Oil & brake fluid £23.90
Transportation £258.98
Total so far £537.88
But I did find 10p in it so my total spend is £537.78 currently

ABS pump was located on the left (in this picture) of the engine bay on the inner wing in front of the black rectangular relay box that is next to the engine mount.............and it's not there.Well, I got home this evening and decided if my cheap car cover had prevented any rain from getting into the car....
But it hadn't
I feel this confirms the theory that it's a drainage hole issue rather than heater matrix. Both the front and rear footwells were once again wet. I decided to try and make a temporary fix.
Lets see if this bd rain gets in now!
The only other thing I did was to remove the naff old speakers and tape deck, and discard them like the trash they are.

I can't, they are not accepting new members.Quick question to anyone who knows, did the MI16 and the MI16x4 use the same size wheels?

I have a radio cassette player from a 1991 car, that I'm happy to donate to the cause? It came out of a Honda CRX, but is in keeping with the age of this car....
Thanks for the offer, but will probably fit something new in the car.ajh38 said:

About your water leak , i can say 100% its leaking in thro the rear lights , the seals shrink with age and the water runs down the channel the side of the boot lid and gets in there and runs down under the boot carpet under the back seats and down onto the floor , lift the rear seat up and its probably soaking , its a giant sponge and holds the water for weeks unless you take it out and dry it . Take the rear lights out and silicone them back on and that will cure the leak
10 PH points to this man. The rear seat is soaking.S10GTA said:
