Some of you may remember i posted a thread about my old RS 6 V8 a few months back,

Well, that's gone and has now been replaced by this animal.

3D Nav

I wasn't planning on buying the V10 RS 6, but this one has a spec like no other, so after sleeping on it a few nights and still thinking dirty thoughts about it, I had sent a deposit and was on the train down to Hull before Mr. Sensible kicked in.

Overall, I am glad I bought it.

I realised this whilst sat on the motorway recently with the adaptive radar cruise on ''making progress'', I turned the volume down on the stereo and was amazed at how incredibly quiet it was in the cabin (the optional double glazing must help here) and then I remembered that this is the same car that only days previously had caused my mate to text me saying 'OMFG, was that you that just drove past, your car literally shook the house - much louder than the plus', and the same car that has beaten a £350,000 Porsche Carrera GT Supercar at VMax, yet taken my mum, dad, my baby nephew, sister and I on a six hour round trip journey in absolute comfort.

The interior has a real 'Made of granite' feel about it, I set the sat nav by talking to it, the brakes are incredible, the steering is so unlike any Audi I've driven (and that's a good thing), the adaptive suspension allows it to go around corners pretty much flat yet still rides over bumps the way I would expect an A8 to.

I've done 2,000 miles in it (some going when I have a company car for commuting) and I've only just had it a month, I've been planning unnecessary trips for next month which should put another 1,000 or so on, I am just addicted to it. It is the best car I've ever owned.

Power has been upped from the 580BHP from factory by MRC to 757 BHP/967NM, no mad tuning, either - just a custom engine and gearbox remap, Milltek exhaust and uprated air filters.

The original owner managed to add on £16,000's worth of extras on top of the already generous spec and paid £93k, I paid less than half that at three years old!

Here are the additonal extras

- Audi Exclusive Black Optics
- Audi Carbon Ceramic Brakes
- Audi Exclusive Alcantara steering wheel & gear knob
- 3G MMI 3D Sat nav with:
>BOSE (5ch surround)
>Bluetooth (privacy handset)
>DAB Radio
>Freeview TV (VIM)
>DVD Player (VIM)
>SD Cards
>6CD
>Ipod
- Advanced Key with Keyless Go
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Memory seats
- Electric steering coloum
- High Beam Assist
- Adaptive Headlights
- F & R Heated seats
- Twin Pane UV Glass and Heat Insulating
- Electric rear window blind and manual side window blind
- Glass Sunroof
- Advanced Parking System with Reverse Cam
- Folding, Dipping Wing mirrors
- Carbon Engine Bay
- MTM Carbon Front Splitter
- MTM Carbon Rear Diffuser

fk me the brake discs are bigger than my wheels.

Great car wink
They're 420mm, it needs 20'' wheels minimum to accommodate them. They've saved me a few times, not looking forward to replacing them though. They are £4.5k each not including the VAT.

Thanks guys, yeah, I too have questioned the profile, makes the wheels look small. But I don't want to go down in profile and ruin the ride quality, which is super smooth in Comfort at the moment.

Get the cats off it! Then it will sound like nothing else.
Awesome car. Love it.
Pre cats have been taken off, and it still passed it's first MOT. It was at Audi too, so no 'friendly' MOT man. The main cats are still in place. MRC had a customer send an RS6 V10 from Taiwan, they sent it back with 860BHP, a bit too much for me however.

Sorry if I miss anyone, I can't multi-quote.

But, no, I don’t have a brother with an R8 V10. I don't have any videos, but this is a good one to start with.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjgEfe7kPFc

There are plenty more on Youtube too. I'll have to try and get one as you should hear it blip the throttle every time I am slowing down and it changes down the gears in sport mode, it is amazing, like a V10 fart/pop/backfire noise. It is known as the 'Sonic Boom' by other owners as it does it when you step on it too.

I found a blurry dyno graph of the car from a month back for anyone interested, and remember, the brake discs are £4.5k each, so £9k plus VAT and that’s without pads or labour. Audi reckon they can last up to 200k miles, let’s see. With any luck I’ll cook them now and have them replaced under warranty. That’s another thing, Audi have changed bits including an EGT sensor under warranty even with the tuning!

Same here, I'm not a massive fan of new Audi's eithier but this is one of the exceptions. It did 196MPH at Vmax Overboost but the runway had been shortened for a car auction that day, and I believe that was at 711BHP, I'll be heading to Vmax soon so we shall see.

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

The ZF 6 Speed box is ok to just over 1,000NM apparently. The 967NM figure was correct at a point in time, last time it was on the dyno it made 908 IIRC. Loads of the C6 RS 6's have been mapped by MRC to 900+ NM, and not one has had a gearbox failure. The cars are bulletproof, even mapped.

About the heavy launches, too late!

Went over to Shakespeare County Raceway the other day, shame there wasn't really anything comparable to run against, it was a lot quicker than a 996 Porsche and modded R34 GTR on the strip. The best thing was, people were tweaking the cars, and pushing them in the queue to stop the engine getting too much heat in, adjusting tyre pressures and stripping spare wheels and even seats, I sat there with the Eastenders omnibus on and it was just 'point and shoot'.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ivgQSsG6Y4

1/4 Mile was 11.7 secs at 124MPH, it isn't the best for launches with it's weight and no launch control (still did 0-60 in 3.5 secs mind you) but it really gets going at 100+

Fuel questions are dull, but as you asked, I've had 180 to 300 miles to a 93 iirc tank.

Top speed? They easily do over 200 MPH GPS, the M5 V10 which are famous for their 207MPH top speed did around 180 at the last Vmax whereas this did 196, just needs a long enough run.

They are rare indeed, only 280 here that's saloon and avants, that makes it even rarer than an Audi RS 2 here in the UK. The saloon is even rarer, and to get things like radar cruise, ceramics etc etc... is even harder to find. These were £10,000 more than an M5 to start with and then mine had an extra £16,000's worth of options specified too, so I HAD to have it when I *was* supposed to be having a 997 Turbo, I had a deal put together by the Porsche Centre in Glasgow, then it all went out of the window when I found out this was available, I've known the car from 6 months old.

Fun fact, it doesn't change in to it's final gear (6th) at quite a bit over 200 MPH!

I would guess yours is probably facelifted too? To be honest I'd rather choose this over the F10 M5. Comfortable and wafty when you want to and bloomin quick when you need it!

997 is on my mind as well but don't see myself affording a 997.2 Turbo S anytime soon...
Yes, saloon only came as a facelift. I would choose BMW over Audi 90% of the time. But you need quattro with all this power/torque on a road car IMO, or you can't use it when it is wet, which let's face it, in this country is all the time! My 335D was always lively in the wet and that had about 1/3 of the power of this.

Top work!

I sold your C5 to its last owner (which is a test drive I'll always remember for entirely positive reasons).
Was that from Fontain? Tell us more...

There isn't really a catch, there were loads with the old C5 model.

It isn't just speed, it makes long journeys a breeze too. The radar cruise slows down and speeds up depending on the traffic, I had it set at 90 and over 80 miles of motorway, I didn't touch any pedal, not even once, and at one point I was even following traffic at 20-30. Then, when making progress on country lanes it looks after turning the main beam on and off for you. If you're approaching a car, or one comes the other way it is off before I've even spotted said car, then on again as soon as it is safe. It is as quiet as a normal family car if taking it easy, and at motorway speeds when doing a constant 70-80-90, but loud enough to wake up a small village if you boot it.

Cons, cons? It isn't a track car and is very heavy, but considering the weight, and considering it is an Audi, the steering doesn't feel detached and vague at all. It can handle track work though, if you check Top Gear Australia's lap times, the estate version (and with the standard 572 BHP obviously) was quicker around their track than a Porsche 997 Carrera S PDK, a Lotus Elise, BMW M3, Merc CLS 63 AMG, Merc SL 63 AMG, Lancer Evolution X, I kid you not.

I’m hearing a lot of ‘I don’t like Audi comments’. Because the car was designed and built by quattro GmbH the car doesn’t have the usual Audi WAUZZZ VIN, but a quattro one instead ‘WUAZZZ’. That’s perhaps why it is so good, as to be completely honest, most modern Audi’s don’t do it for me either, like I said earlier on in the thread, I would choose BMW 90% of the time, and I can’t take Audi seriously as a premium product whilst the majority of them are front wheel drive. But there are a few exceptions.
The engine is unique to this model, and not shared across 10 different VAG products, it handles extremely well, the steering isn’t detached at all and most of the power is sent to the rear wheels, you CAN get the back end out quite easily, it almost feels rear wheel drive. Of course, it will understeer, but you drive it in a different way to a rear wheel drive car and learn to work around it.

It was, we bought it directly from its first owner in 2008 with 10,000 miles on the nose. Older bloke who even had hand controls in it!

It was up at £39,995 then and the chap who was after it part exchanged an S8 Final Edition. I'll always remember the test drive because he asked we stop half way so he got get himself a bottle of water, I think he liked it wink

I think the only thing that went wrong in his ownership was the suspension.
Yes, that's right. I remember seing some hand control leaflet amongst the paperwork. Marcus who you sold it to sold it to me after keeping it three and a half years and with 36,000 miles on it. I put another 14,000 miles on and sold it 14 months later for this. It is now owned by the director of 4Star Classics, he runs it as his own car and it isn't for sale

I've not got a flyby video, but try these, taken at VMax, you hear the exhaust do this backfire splutter noise as it changes at redline. I love that.

I hit 197 MPH through the beams, showing 204 on the speedo (see pic, still only in fifth gear so another still to go)! Turned out the car was quicker than the 458 Italia and 612 GTO on the day.

And here's a cool photo taken on an awesome evening drive.

Had forgot all about this thread! I'm now a V10/V8/V8 man, just done a deal on a D2 Audi S8 that I collect tomorrow, and bought an ex Audi UK early 1995 A8 4.2 quattro sport two months back too, I must be mad! Screw you, Greenpeace.
