A new head gasket and polyrace front rear wishbone bushes:

Racetech oil pressure/temperature gauge. This is a mechanical gauge so if there is an oil pressure problem i'll notice it. This will need welding fitting to the sump via a boss or sandwiched to the sump face:

Action shot - new wing fitted as the old one was dented:

My slicks - will want them mounting at some point with a suitably sized alloy - probably some capri 13x7 RS 7 spokes as i quite like them and i know they will fit the brakes.

CatCam turbo cams getting timed up to the supplied markings:

Bosses for the EGT sensor, new boost gauge sensor and oil temperature. If anyone is wondering how thick my sunroof is and how it's fitted, you can see some rivets and the thickness of the aluminium sheet.

EGT is now fitted, installed as close to the primaries as possible:

New 2.5" exhaust fitted with a baffle that can be cut and repacked to any size. I got the 4" diameter and I should have got the 5" which I might still get as it will give me a bit more sound deadening. Its also been wrapped with heat tape stuff to keep temps down as its close to a lot of stuff. Route required to steer clear from the clutch cable.

Off to get some silicone as the exhaust has changed some of the pipe routes to the rad and intercooler, mart has fitted to 2.5" inlet pipe to the inlet manifold and to make use of the forced cooling we will use 2" from turbo to intercooler. Theory is that this creates a pressure drop across the intercooler and low pressure = low temps.

Old inlet which was 2" and a bit restrictive when the pipe before it was 2.5".

After its out the oily packaging! You can see the size difference:

Got to get a bracket made up for it

The intercooler pipe from turbo to intercooler is now just 2", this means we can also keep a more direct route - it's now pretty tight!

The top hose needed rerouting as the new exhaust was in the way of the radiator inlet so we had to go up and over the exaust.

Maybe in the future i will get a one piece hose made up.

The new exhaust downpipe has a bellmouth on it, this was the old pipe we cut off.

Major improvements to the exhaust downpipe really - it definately needed redoing:

New steering wheel - buttons for overboost and launch control which can be mapped into the KMS:

New dials - i have Boost/EGT + oil pressure/temp + AFR (innovate LC1)

I ran the car in up and down the motorway, all was working well - had a problem with the oil pressure but was fine as soon as I bled the capillary. Air in the line was compressing before the pressure gauge so was getting a low reading.

After 6 hours up and down the motorway on Monday night I have decided I need better seats. The buckets are cobra monacos and not offering much comfort or a massive amount of support. Its not the cushion either, the sides were rubbing my hips so was aching really bad.

Been looking at sports recliners add they have a bit more width for my fat ass.

These fit well at the local shop, I think they are cobra daytonas:

Havent bought any yet but looking out for some - but they need to trial fit first!

350bhp hehe

I bet that thing flies!
Well we havent had it mapped fully yet, hoping for 350 but i'll be happy with what ever we get - will be 300+ for sure.

It should be ready by next friday once the engine is rewired and remapped.

On track the TD04 was a little better but for the road the VF35 is a good turbo. I'm hoping i can get a better spool with the improvements and see more power under/around 3k. It was spooling around 3500 with the VF35 before. TD04 was well under 2k. I still have the TD04 and may well put it back on and get a map for it for certain tracks. There's still some weight to come out of it too. So power to weight wise it's pretty impressive.

It also has almost the exact same handling characteristics as a 106 - has the same suspension/beam and floorpan but a little bit lighter to boot.

Damn, 350hp in ax? I had a AX GT, that was a money pit. What brakes you running? i wouldnt mind a ax with big power.
Brakes are hi-spec ultralite 4 pots with DS3000 pads on 266mm Peugeot 206 diesel discs and braided lines with a bigger servo from a Saxo vts and 23mm master cylinder from a 406.

Because of the lighter back end I only have 4 stud drums from the bigger Saxo diesel with mintex shoes. Disc brakes on the back are a tad overkill on an ax and they get very twitchy under hard braking.

Would a more substantial cage be a good idea?
It was put in by previous owner and is fully welded and braced. If you mean the door bars are low and the driver side has extra bars where the seat is higher. The passenger seat is bolted to the floor with reinforced plates so sits very low anyway. When your in its pretty protective. The cage makes the car very solid at speed, its a better job than it looks to be fair bit I know what you mean.

The car doesn't look pretty at all but its all very functional, it certainly doesn't look much!

I have decided to upgraded the injectors to Siemens Deka 630cc which are the common upgrade for the megane R26. They have a better spray pattern than the yellow band pico's which are more suited for an 8v with one inlet so the jet sprays down the centre of the valve opening (single jet, aka pencil jet). Looking at the spray pattern on the standard pico's for the VTS it is a twin spray pattern so it sprays down the centre of each valve opening on a 16v car. The yellow band pico's will have been spraying into the centre bridge between the 16v head.

So
these new injectors should give me better atomisation than the pencil jet picos.

Will also have to revert back to a 3 bar fpr so i have better fuel control and idle.

I also bought 2 Corbeau sprint seats. Both second hand but unused - 1 was used for mocking up purposes and the other was just bought and not used so i got them for a good deal. The FIA approval runs out soon though so wont be in date for long, but the car isn't up to standard anyway and is not a competition car.

I went to Demon Tweeks to try out some seat first and decided on an XL which is what they both are - the Corbeau Sprint came in this size.

I also bought 2 adjustable side mount brackets from Rally Design so i know they will fit the seats and give me some adjustment. It also takes the passenger off the floor which i hope he will appreciate for the ring trip! I was thinking of leaving him on the floor with the previous seat but it would have been uncomfortable for the lad and besides - i might share the driving... lol

The electrics side of things were a bit of a mess as well so martin went through the loom and cut it down - it appears like there were two looms joined together so at least there's a bit of weight saving there.

I'll be going through the car anyway and cutting a few things down to save more weight, still plenty to come out.

Well it's been to track n road and remapped with the DTA. The car held up well but we had to stop when adding boost at standard actuator pressure.

The VF35's are highly susceptible to boost creep and we got it in buckets! When the standard cat is removed on an impreza the extra flow creates a bigger pressure drop through the turbo than through the wastegate, so the boost pressure keeps feeding through the turbo hence the creep, and we have effectively achieved that through a bigger exhaust, so we had to stop there.

Porting of the wastegate is required to smooth the flow and open it up a little bit - also need a stronger actuator to hold the gate closed.

You can see the boost creeping, then spiking near the end of the graph - this is completely uncontrolled.

Glowing on the dyno:

New Forge wastegate - i bought two springs - 7psi and 1 bar. Martin has now ported the wastegate and it's holding a rock solid 7psi all the way to the redline, so it's good to go for final mapping.

Unfortunately the EBC isn't working so no boost control beyond gate pressure so back to the internets:

New GFB G-Force EBC, seems pretty good with scramble modes and accurate boost control so that should do nicely.

Turns out, the new boost controller they sent is the latest updated one so bit of a win there.
