I bought myself a 205TD runabout a while ago. It needs a new driver's side hub and there's a coolant leak and i can't be arsed spending money on it to go back to standard.

It owes me next to feck all but it's a really good shell. I am trying my best not to tinker with the 911 so i fancy a project again.

So what should i do with it? I'm looking for a bit of inspiration.

I'm a dab hand with a welder so it really can be as daft as you like. I'm thinking mid/rear engined, swapping to a 4wd platform, twin engined, something quite out there.

Here's the "beast" in question :

It's got a pretty mint GTi interior so i'll sell that on and i'll get something back for the engine and associated parts, that will pretty much give me back what it owes me.

So free reign, go nuts, what do you think we should do?

Had an Mi16 when i was 23. Loved it to pieces. that was a hoot but if i go that route it has to be a minty GTi. That ain't this car.

V8 is a possibility but it'd have to be transverse, just don't think there is room for longitudinal mounting, even with the super short Audi V8's. I do have the audi gearbox there though.

I'm thinking something i can lift a "clip" from and slot in the car.

The 406 V6 is nice but i think the Alfa V6 is nicer sounding. Both cheap as chips to buy.

I've built a few mid engined V6 Mr2's, was hoping for something new but it seems to be a common theme.

Hayabusa engine would need to be super, super light to make it worthwhile i would imagine. sub 500kgs.

Would cost a fortune to get that light.

I love the sound of a CBX 1000 though, that in the back would be amazing even if it was a bit slow!

I've got some 1.9 SMRs or some 306 five spokes you can have for beer, OP. Although I seem to recall you're in Scotland?
Cheers for the offer. Yep, all the way up in Glasgow otherwise i'd jump at those SMRs. It's gonna need spacers whatever i do.

If i go mid mount, it'll need the struts and hubs and subframes too. A full front end from a 156 or GTV shouldn't be too hard to come by.

Defo not diesel.

Been looking at subframes and struts etc and I have quite a few mr2 spares. I think I'll graft that into the rear and then I have a wide choice of engines to use.

I'll put the hubs on too and then I can fit my Oz superleggeras. thumbup

As much as a GTi is worth a few bob, a TD shell with 175k on the clock is not.

I bought it for £350 and i'll make a chunk of that back selling off parts i'm not using.

Pretty convinced i can go down the Mr2 clip rear to give me a base to work off. There's not masses of space behind the seats so it's going to have to be transverse.

If i space frame the whole rear then i'd choose double wishbones for the rear and i could fit something longitudinaly mounted. By that stage i'd be as well jacking it in and buying a VX220 to fit the V8.

Off to find a Mk2 Mr2 i can cut the rear out of!

It's up for sale in the Fezza Replica classifieds.

Got as far as making room for the engine and box and it's sat on the drive since. It's making way for this project now instead.

Did some measuring this afternoon.

So thats 1150mm rear panel to rear of the tape reel.

1100mm between wheel wells.

The rubber gromit is 660mm from the rear.

Why those dimensions? Well it just so happens thats the length of an Audi v8 plus ob1 gearbox I have sat in the garage. Driveshafts would just about line up but not running straight, which is good.

So my thoughts are now turning to put an a8 subframe, struts and towers in the rear. Engine and box would sit in them and just need grafted to the shell.

Sounds easy eh?

No chance of a v10, just not the room. Audi v8 is super short.

Bike engines have been done but this set up would be new.

Shells in good nick, rust free but has a few dings on the exterior. Wouldn't say mint.

Need sum measurements from an a8/s8, anyone have one and can help out?

Just bought a mk1 1.8 eunos with hard top for 300 smackers biggrin

Will break that, sell off the body parts and interior and then fit the Running gear to the 205 shell.

Wheelbase is a bit shorter but I'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

That it does. Exactly 100mm difference in the wheelbase.

I'm going to take it out of the rear footwell so I can retain the fuel tank etc. Will require new fuel lines, brake lines and a custom prop shaft but overall fairly straightforward.
