This might not be to everyone's taste but I love it smile

It started life as a standard Honda Civic Type-R 30th Anniversary edition and was meant to be a stop gap until I could afford something a bit more meaty.

But after falling on some 2nd hand parts for it really cheap the spiral of modifying the car got quite out of control as you will see!

Brief Spec -

6 Pot AP Racing brakes
Full weld in roll cage
Custom Made Turbo conversion making 300bhp and 200ftlb @ 5/6ish psi
Speedline Mag 2020 Wheels
Carbon doors/boot/bonnet/scoop
Buddyclub N+ Coilovers

Pictures -

Car goes fantastic on the track. Looking forward to getting many more in next year!

Comments welcome!

Matt

Looks fun! I normally like morettes but I'm a little undecided on these, but saying that the standard items aren't particularly pretty.

Any vids?
Yeah, i'm a bit like that tbh, i quite like them some days but others i just want to change them. But they do serve a purpose and feed the filter that is sat behind it.

Bloody hell I thought someone had painted the door a funny colour at first,

That must be VERY good fun on track
I usually get that, or asked whether its a wrap :|

It is indeed smile

Nice mods, it must be a monster!! I agree on the headlights, does make it look a little like a mk1 focus, apart from that Its quite a bit of kit!!!
People keep saying this about a MK1 Focus, but i really don't see it !

My days ,you have made it look really cheap there lad.whats on going on with the door lol.

as for the go faster bits , bet its rapid when Vtec comes in .have you got any pics of the engine
While i understand it may not be to everyones tastes, I am not entirely sure how I have made it look cheap?

The door is a carbon door, the doors in total saved over 40kg in weight over the stock items. Unfortunately its function before form for me, aesthetics are not high on my list of priorities

Unlike the old farts on here ,im am at 25 more like you than you think.
However im all for bodykits ,that enhance the look ,unfortunately that one makes the car look cheap.
Its ironic really, that i bet it cost loads and to paint.Along with your carbon doors.

Epic car minus the front for me.

my mate had a charade (for one day) with a b18c custom turbo job , and i loved that engine .
Not disagreeing with you, Cars with hideous kits are awful. J just don't understand how it looks 'cheap' with carbon doors?

I think the problem is some chavs paint panels black to make them look like they are carbon and have kind of tarnished the image? idk, something along these lines anyway.

well worth it for the weight saving though
Ahh, i see! I have noticed an influx of questions asking if they are 'wrapped' recently. I have toyed with the idea of spraying them, but they will lose their resale value if i was to i think

Any idea what it weighs now over the standard car with all your carbon bits and bobs and the lack of an interior?
1011kg's, I still have plastic windows to fit, and i am planning to remove the ABS and fit the bias valve i have. Hopefully might sneak it under the 1000kg mark then

Echo what others have said really, like it all but the lights smile

What does it rev to now that it has the turbo conversion, and how is it managed together with the VTEC?
Same as before, in fact i think its a little higher 8600rpm, makes full boost from around 2500rpm and pulls it all the way to the limiter without dropping off.

Vtec still kicks in as usual too at about 5400rpm. All controlled through the AEM ecu

didnt realise they was carbon at first ,was on the nexus 4 viewing it .

i personally hate naked carbon on large panels , prefer small things like skirts and mirrors.

what is the end goal for the car ,you say your doing away with abs .You going for an all out track slag
Aim goal is to have something that's a proper laugh on the b-road bash, but then also a capable car on the track.

The ABS is a bit of a hindrance at the minute, with the massive brakes on the front it cuts in far to early for my liking!

Personally I think it would look nicer all standard at the front (except from the carbon bonnet), but all in all a lovely car! Great performance mods, have fun with it smile
The standard bumper is awful! Looks so girly without the Mugen splitter on it biggrin

I see where you're coming from, but I really like the standard one smile so, what are the plans for more power that you have mentioned?
It's still totally stock internally. So the plan is for a full overhaul of the engine. Forged pistons, steel rods. and the totally re-do the valve train, basically make it bomb proof smile

I find it pretty funny that someone modifies there car properly and then gets comments saying they don't like this or that or think it would be a 1.4..... People modify their cars to mimic well modified ones like this so congrats OP.

I don't particularly like Civic Type-R's but yours I do like. Any reason you chose to go the turbo route over supercharged? Supercharged is more conventional and I know from experience that one of these with 300bhp+ is pretty quick especially on a rolling start wink
Thanks!

Yeah, i looked around at all possibilities when planning the build out, even ITB's. The main issue with the chargers are there are really two main options, Jackson Racing or Rotrex. Rotrex chargers seem to be hugely unreliable and most people i know with them have had issue at some point down the line. Jackson's on the other hand are good, but limited in the power they make. tbh they would be more suited to an 1800 engine given the size they make and you have to be really lucky to make anything past 300bhp.

The turbo however has the potential for really unlimited power, nice progressive power band like that or the charger, but with non of the issues.

With the turbo i have fitted (GT2871R) it actually drives a lot like a charged civic, its makes full boost (5/6psi) at around 2500/3000rpm and pulls that boost all the way to the limiter.

And even more ridiculously with the turbo set up and how efficient it is, i can actually get low 40mpg's out of the car on a run down the motorway at normal speeds redface

No, the rules of our championship say the body as to be factory parts, however the doors are literally the skin and frame with everything (including the locks) pulled off and a carbon sheet fixed over the hole. Even the re-inforcement on the bonnet and tailgate has been removed. wink
Ah nice! Wanting to get mine weighed once I have it sorted, hoping it is under the 1000kg mark

You should manage it if you make sure you're low on fuel, from what I see your car doesnt look too different to mine.

I'd love to get a flat undertray and splitter and diffuser and a BTCC kit but the rules again say its not allowed unless the car came with them, (great for the Elise that runs with us, bad for the other cars).
Prefer to have a full tank in it and still hit 1000kg :P

The headlights and mugen spliter really ruin it for me, with facelift headlights and normal Type R bumper it will look like a serious bit of kit, atm it does look very barry boy.

I am envious of the rest of the car though, I would love to get them carbon parts I bet the weight saving is amazing.
Everything is there for a purpose. Function > form.

Headlights are there for a cooling duct.

Splitter is there to allow me to run a proper splitter attached to it as the stock splitter sits too high.

That's a quality build with some seriously nice kit.

A mate of mine has a EP3 quite similar to yours with the carbon bonnet, boot but he was having trouble locating doors an wings so i'd be grateful if you could share some details.

Oh, when you rebuilt the gearbox, did you put a limited slip diff in ?? My mate has a KAZZ diff and it has made an enormous difference, combined with toyo 888s the turn in/grip is incredible.
Thanks mate. It has an os-giken diff in it. Luckily it was ok after clutch let go so in the rebuild I will re use that along with a lower final drive and some carbon synchros

The doors are from seibon. Around 1400 quid each new
