I was never very keen on the stock wheels and finally I settled on what I would have instead. I went for these:-
They are stock size (17x7") but 8mm lower offset and a useful 2kg a wheel lighter. I kept the stock tyres as wanted to keep the cars character close to stock (for now).
Picture just after they were fitted below:-
I realise they wont be to most people's taste as due to the design with the spokes not running to the edge of the wheel they look smaller than 17's.

Next up was sorting the exhaust and a drop in air filter. I went with a Cobra cat-back non-resonated system as part of a group buy. It may be a little loud for my taste though so a resonated centre section may be fitted at some point. For the air filter I went with a HKS panel filter.

Next I had it lowered a touch. I went to AST suspension and had a set of their lowering springs fitted. I went with a 25mm drop as it is my daily driver and I live in speed bump central so decided against the 35mm. The 35mm also have a greater need for various alignment products to be fitted too. Decided to go with the springs from AST as they are the closest to stock rate and I didn't want to make the ride much firmer than it already was. They are also pretty much the only offering which have different spring rates for the '86 and BRZ.
Picture below just after fitting so I would expect them to settle a little more over the coming weeks:-
Again, please excuse the state of the car!

Very nice, however looks far better on the stock wheels IMHO
It's the first time they've been back on since it was lowered and I'm much fonder of them now than I was at first. It was the weight saving I really wanted with the others though and I wanted two sets to have summers and winters to swap between.AmitG said:
The more I see of these cars, the more I resolve to get one.
Great car OP.
Have you done (or are you intending to do) anything to the interior?
Thanks!Great car OP.

The only thing I've done on the interior is swap the woeful quality stock mats for a set of custom mats in red to match the red accents on the wheel, gear knob, seats, etc
Not a great picture but hopefully shows what I mean:-

Looks great, do these usually have a load of badges on the back?
Oil filter looks easy to get to
Thanks!Oil filter looks easy to get to
There's usually a toyota and gt86 badge on the back but I tend to debadge all my cars as it just seems less hassle on the odd occasions I do clean them and I also prefer the cleaner look without badges.
Oil filter is indeed very easy to access.

I actually really like those aftermarket wheels, well, would be nicer without that stripe on the edge.
Yeah the stripe wouldn't have been my choice but it was either black with the yellow stripe or gold wheels and I decided black was more to my taste. Stripe has grown on me though.guitarmandan said:
Both sets of wheels looked ten times better for the car being lowered. I reckon a red strip on the aftermarket wheels would look cool and be in-keeping with the colour scheme you're rocking.
I've definitely been a lot happier with the look since lowering - seems more in keeping with it as a 'sports' car and I agree both sets of wheels look better for it.magooagain said:
Very nice car. What sort of performance do they push out in stock form? And are there well tried upgrades availiable?
They are supposed to be 200hp in stock form although most seem to be putting out closer to 180hp on the dyno. They definitely are not an about the power car though.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
