MK2 Escort LS1
Discussion
thanks for the comments, havent driven it yet although it has been fired up a few times, had a bit o trouble with my new ecu not being calibrated to run a 24 tooth crank trigger wheel, which the LS1 has, so its been sent back to MBE (ECU Company) sevral times for softwear mods, hopefully all gremlins sorted now.
basically i built the shell to GP4 spec, bear metal shotblasted and primed, 6 linked rear end, Fostec Built 52" Atlas with gripper diff, Gaz coil overs, image wheels, willwood brakes, full weld in cage, lots of shell strengthing/repairing etc
its 98% complete lol then MOT then develope further ;-)
i have a more detailed thread on turbosport, il put detail in from now on :-)
any Qs just ask
cheers

Hi Finlay
All I can say is Snap!
My Escort LS1 project has just come back from paint - all I need to is bolt it back together again!

I can see you have your engine further back than me and also maybe lower as you have had to notch the chassis rail you have also used headers. My engine came with headers and yes there were a nightmare to modify around the steering and starter motor. I am just 6 foot and had to cut the diag cage tube behind the seat so I could get it back enough. How low is your sump? as mine is the same level as the cross member - hence it sit a bit higher.
If anyone wants me to do one for them I think I would choose a LHD shell and use standard manifolds!
lol, sounds like we have had the same probz, im 6ft 1" and am thinking about cutting the diagonal bar behind the cage to allow me to get the seat back, i found this fancy starter from the usa that allows you when mounted to the block to rotate it (in theory) 360 degress so the solinoid is at the bottom of the starter rather than the top, this allowed me to run the steering col inbetween the block and headers with reasonable clearence, this was my 3rd attempt at sorting steering lol, yea i cut the chassis rails to allow the down pipes from headers to fit then rebuilt them with 3 mm plate, my x-member sits approx half way up the sump, what ecu are you using ?If anyone wants me to do one for them I think I would choose a LHD shell and use standard manifolds!
cheers

I started modifying my sump by cutting and turning through 180 deg then found a rear sump on the bay. ECU is locked but I can unlock them. I have done mine and a chap who runs one in a grass track car.
awww man, if only id known about ECU, would have saved ££££ !!!! Ben (ex F1 Sparky) at www.crosshillsportsandclassiccars.co.uk , who is doing the rewire for me has had major hastle with my MBE ecu not being calibrated for the LS1 24x trigger wheel, its had to be sent back to MBE sevral times for softwear mods sheepdip said:
The standard ecu is fully configurable and is a very very powerful tool. Have you fitted some sort of override for the reverse solenoid? On the same subject I think you have some form of after market shifter - is it not too far back? I modded mine and my engine is further forward than yours.
yea i asked the sparky to wire in some sort of override for the reverse solenoid, have you tried to engage reverse without power to the solinoid ?, yea il need to mod the shifterEdited by Finlay007 on Wednesday 26th February 05:14

Thats the beauty of the original ECU - it controls the sov thats why I asked. You will not get reverse without powering the sov, so its safe. I think there was a problem on the early boxes as the sov was not there and you could miss shift and blow the box! You need a switch with a flashing light on the dash.
reverse engages no probz, nearly finished now ;-)all legal now, MOT, Insured but not finnished yet ;-) got some inside work to complete, its getting been getting mapped all last week so should be getting it delivered this week sometime, here is a pic of it at Crosshill Sports and Classic.
can wait to get her home !!!!
