Hi folks

New to the PH Forums, not so much to PH though!

Having previously owned 30+ cars anywhere from an E36 M3 Evo, through to Evo's, Imprezas, most variants of the Honda Type R family and many more mundane things, I founds myself in the market for a new car, but I finally fancied something more modern.

Having deliberated for some time, I decided FN2s get so much bad press, I'm going to buy one, just because all the snotty kids don't like them so there won't be too many others over here.

I'd never even driven one, the only useful memory I had was of a pesi-spec 1.8 FN Civic when they first came out, and how stiff the ride in that thing was. So, as everyone seemed to moan about the ride quality of FN2s in particular, I thought that it would suit my anti-body roll religious beliefs when it comes to handling quite well.

I spoke to our one and only Honda Car Dealership, and quickly realised they knew less about Hondas that the average Chicken Kiev smothered in ketchup, so moved my search over to the slightly larger rock, to our right, the UK. I eventually (after speaking to several sellers who's characters were about as desirable as a bad bout of syphilis in a Bareback Brothel) found a nice, unmolested, full Honda Service History Deep Bronze Pearl Type R GT on PH Classifieds, which was owned by a pleasant chap. The car sounded A1, so I haggled out a deal on the phone on the priviso that if he's telling porkies, he'll have a somewhat angry 6ft 4 Manxman on his doorstep to deal with. I booked a flight, met him, did the deal and drove it straight back to Liverpool to jump on the ferry home that day.

That was June 2012. 18 or so months later, and the crazy gamble was a good one. Having driven and owned so many cars over the years, I simply do not understand how anyone can have any gripes with the handling of an FN2. Maybe it's because my car spends a large chunk of it's time being driven fast (legally) on proper roads, I don't know. What I do know is that it's the best car I have ever owned.

Here's some pics of her:

Aaaaaand once a year the lovely Isle of Man Government make my daily commute a one way road, so my commute goes a bit like this: (gets going about 2 minutes in when the speed limit ends) smile

Cheers for the replies everyone.

It is amazing how slow the vid looks from there, I mounted the camera under the front bumper on my old MB6 and despite the run being 30 seconds slower, it looks like warp speed in comparison. All being worked on as we speak though wink

Regarding the plates, yes, you may think they look horrendous. If we all liked the same thing the world would be a boring place after all smile

@mascord05 Absolutely gutted for you mate, I always worry about that happening, just as I know with Hondas it renders your car virtually worthless, and a rebuild ain't cheap! How did it happen?

Excellent video and driving, well done. You clearly know the route well. Confident in the corners at high speed. Some of those corners take balls at that speed I can tell!
Cheers very much! As you say, I do know the route very well, I'd liken it with your hallway in the dark on the way to the toilet at night. I do keep a bit in hand though, it's a road after all, and what lurks around the next corner isn't always very pretty.

Hi mate, I agree, these things are underrated to hell. Here's a vid from this year's TT with better sound wink
