Peugeot 306 GTI-6 1997
Discussion
Right, owned this for about 4 months now. It popped up on Ebay just 5 minutes away so thought "Why not?" and give myself a little project over the winter.
It's a 1997 phase 1 Cossack grey GTI-6 with 105k on the clock (tasty).
It's going to be a long term project to get it back to standard as much as possible. The main downer on the car is it has had a break in attempt at some point where the pass' door was bent down but its been pulled back and the result is just a bit of wind noise, no water leaks or anything.
The mechanic(a Peugeot master tech) who I bought it off changed the heater matrix, new rad and changed cambelt so she's a good un'. In the paper work it's had receipts of head gasket, mintex brakes all round just a couple year ago and bilstein dampers and new springs and a load of sensors from peugeot...beauty.

So after driving it around for about a month I decided to SORN it at the start of December, before the bad weather came. So from them on I've been steady away tidying it up back to standard.
First part was satin blacking the rub strips etc:
Door damage but I've touched it up:
The underneath isn't in bad nick either. Just a little scabby. (brake lines aren't leaking, I'd just WD'd the comp just to keep it healthy)
Plans:
1. Get spare door painted
2. Get dent in boot pulled out
3. Rebuild rear beam (it creaks on long left handers but no camber....)
4. Underseal underneath
5. Paint wheels silver
The bumper had a few battle scars and cracks so got busy sanding and filling:
This is where the car currently lives (I'm in debt forever to my sister for taking over her garage.)
Managed to get the beam off with the use of 2 jacks last week then spent the evening in the shed:
Well I had a tin of yellow and red hammerite in the shed so just decided to busy with the brush, also black'ed the mounting arms:
And made a nice purchase from Larkspeed:
Just fitted new handbrake cables and went armed with a wire brush and drill attachment to the boot floor before whacking a coat of Bilt Hamber 80 on:
Snapped a bleed nipple on one of the rear calipers but luckily I bought another beam inc' calipers with free bleed nipples. I then spent an evening stripping them and making a good set of calipers out the 2 sets:
Removed the pistons from the calipers to see which 2 were the best internally:
And picked the best pistons to use, mmmmmm smooooooth:
hmmmmmm goosed:
I was able to reuse the piston seals as they looked brand new. Rebuilt the calipers using some brake fluid as lube, repacked the handbrake mechanism with grease and now I have a fully functioning set of rear calipers:
Gave the boot floor a coat of brush on red oxide primer:
Also bought new arm shafts and bearings and rebuilt the beam:
Just this week I gave the boot floor a spray over with satin black and used some Bilt Hamber UB as the underseal/wax (cannot rate the Bilt Hamber stuff enough, from a 750ml can I've managed to put 3 good layers on)
So that's where I am as of tonight. I'm waiting for Peugeot to get my rear ARB seals in then I can struggle on fitting the beam back on.
CHEEEEEERS!

Weeellll, done a fair bit this weekend:
Got the beam bolted on with help from the ol' man then fitted all the brakes etc. Just need to bleed them then fit exhaust and the rear is done:
Also had a crack at rattle can'ing the front bumper repair and just finished satin blacking the rub strips. Not too bad tbh:
Just need to flat and polish the blend down the 2 centre thin areas.

Bit more done on the 6' over the last couple of weeks:
Beam complete and exhaust fitted:
Then just this weekend managed to pull the car back (using a tow rope) just enough to work on the front and fit the bumpers etc...:
So should be getting it taxed and temp insured ready for my week off to give it a shakedown.

Cheers Zed, hoping to have it just as a good weekend fun. It's currently on 105k so don't want to be racking it up too much. Will be buying new droplinks and wishbones soon just so I know everything suspension wise is new.
(also, this is the suuuper lightweight Ph1 which doesn't have air-con. But does have silly heavy electric windows and sunroof, damn)

They're great, have had them on my other 306 for a couple years now. Have them on mid setting (8-10ish clicks on adjuster I think) and they're spot on. (My mate did put them to the hardest setting on the other car and it was the WORST 15mile drive home ever, such a harsh ride.)
Best £100 spent on rear dampers.

Well, treated the ol' 6 quite a bit lately with alot of work done by Chris at 'CarWurx':
New rear badges:
New clutch cable, gearbox oil and seals. I also bought 2 Toyo R1R tyres for the rear:
Also had Dan at PureDents out to sort the dent in the boot out:
Before:
After:
Also took a door down to Carter & Browns in Leeds centre to get sprayed. Will be ready to be picked up on Monday.
And as of today, just been down to CarWurx again to have the front tyres changed to R1Rs along with wishbones, drop links and having the tracking done:
So, every suspension component has been changed recently so she's a good un' for another 100K. I just need to take the front wheels down to ATS to get the centreless wheels balanced.
How it sits now:
Nooooow I just need to save up for a while for a full blow over/respray.
Cheeeers.

Cheers PH'ers. You know when you read about people who can't stop grinning when driving their car, I always thought 'bloody weirdos'....but actually it's true. I can't stop grinning when hooooooning this thing.
As for current spend, I've probably spent just above £2k so far. But now I'm running out on things to buy/change on it.
The only problem I have to fix is the rev counter and oil level/pressure gauge have stopped working. Either dodgy earths or the wiring down by the engine loom connecters.

Yesterday I needed some seat covers for the 6' (to save the fronts from any more damage) so decided to take a trip to Halfords. I could have done this quick route:

But no, decided on this:
