So after starting a thread and reading some others about buying a ex police cars it seemed some people think they're great others less so.

I figured that it was just like normal cars, some good some bad. Just go on the condition of the car itself. The car was a 330d Touring with only 60k on the clock. It was in great condition with little signs of a hard life and only small clues to it being a police car. Some screws in the dash and some holes where lights were fitted in the rear boot hatch.

So I've put a deposit down and picking it up on the weekend.

Here is the car...

]

One thing I couldn't understand was the low mileage, they had 09 cars with 180k + so why was this so low?

A bit of Googling later and some good news.

There's a Flikr page just for the car here..

With some great pictures of it in it's previous life, which was Durhams spare interceptor car first then spent the rest of it's life as a Police Trainer Driving vehicle.

There's some great comments about the car and seems it was really coveted by those officers that drove it.

Some pics of it's previous life...

So have I found a diamond in the rough?

Only time will tell.

I'm picking it up on the weekend so I'll get some more/better pics up then.

Any comments welcome.

Cheers, smile

I'll put some MPG figures here when I've put some miles in.

Looks lovely though. It's refreshing that it has the orange in the repeaters, I think a lot of the later models look a bit dull in comparison when they were all 'clear' or crystal or whatever they call them.
Yeah they look good. I'm just putting my E36 back to ambers as well. smile

I have one of these (without the police history). Get an e-maps remap and get some swirl flap blanks fitted. Good choice of Labrador lugger.
Already booked in for service and swirl flap removal. smile

Driver training cars get driven very hard, but they also get looked after very well.
Hopefully you're right. smile

Whats it like underneath? Being a north east car most are rusty pigs.
I did have a look and it was clean and no sign of tinworm.

It will be straight up on the ramps for a good check when I get it.

Looks nice and clean. Did you notice the post on there saying "Now at SMA auctions with 69,957 miles on the clock"? Not sure if this related to this car, or perhaps a mistake?
My mistake its just clicked over to 70k so it all sounds right. smile

Had a few ex-Police Omega Estates and Mondeo hatches from the auctions. All done loads of miles, no recorded service historys, usual odd bodywork scars etc. - and always great cars! I think every one that I bought sailed straight through an MOT test immediately after purchase. Real properly looked after and maintained.

The worst thing to sort can be the interior stuff on some of them in my experience.
This is good news!

A few panels inside were loose and a good bargaining point, but nothing to bad, I even fixed one when I was there.

Well I picked it up today!

Made it all the way home with no problems so the signs are good. Pulls nicely and drives smooth. The most impressive thing by far though are the brakes! Would the Police have had them upgraded? It does stop on a penny.

Some poor pics, I'll get some better ones up when I've given it a clean and polish. smile

Lack of badges from where the stripes used to be

Some screws in the dash from it's previous life, but the dealer has ordered and replacing. smile

Tape deck FFS! hehe

A better pic of the car,

A clue to its previous life,

This doesn't look standard,

Twin battery set up, ithankyouverymuch biggrin

A connector in the wheel well with some interesting options!

I had the swirl flaps removed and a clean of inlet manifold etc.

This is one that came out, it fell apart in the mechanics hand as he was removing it!

It's going great so far, a bit different to the 100bhp Audi 80 it's replacing! biggrin

I had the front wishbone bushes changed as they were on the way out.

Then four wheel alignment...

Some impressive tyre changing equipment.

Just a little update.

I recently had the car re-mapped at Viezu Technologies. I went for a more economical map, a little more power and torque. It's now showing well over 40mpg and drives a lot smoother.

The boss was in!
