4 weeks in. Bit of a random choice for me, I'm a bit of a bargista but seeing as these cliosports seem to be coming out of the woodwork recently I thought I'd give it a go! Really love the colour.

First impressions are good, it's quick enough to be fun but not get yourself into trouble. I'm looking to do a few trackdays in it and save some money in fuel over my old 530. (35 plays 24!)

Anyone thinking of getting one needs to go in with their eyes open though, they can throw massive bills at you (for the price of purchase). This car looked shabby round the edges but essentially tidy. Dephaser wasn't due for 20k or 2 years, Renault SH, sensible miles. Needed tyres, minor service and a bloody good clean...... Or so I thought.

Was sold as having a sports exhaust, they all have aftermarket as a Renault system is c.£1000, it was extremely loud and stupidly I didn't get under the car and actually look. Got it home and looked, errr it was a standard system with the centre silencer removed!! It also wasn't running amazingly when cold, it'd hesitate and be reluctant to rev. Took it to a specialist and boom. Dephaser pully.

So now I'm into the car for a timing belt, dephaser, aux belts, service and Miltek exhaust. While being done they also found a broken spring and both bottom ball joints goosed. After fitting the new front tyres I've basically spent the purchase price again. Looks like I'll be keeping this one a while so atleast I know it's all in good shape, few minor cosmetics to tidy up and it'll be good! (Wheel refurb, temp gauge and steering wheel retrim)

So onto some pics,

To try and show the colour:

Should of said,

I've already had all of the work done. The exhaust is my new Miltek smile I had the servicing done at Ren-Tech in Portsmouth, not the cheapest but lovely guys and came away happy (and the car with a clean bill of health!)
Eta: the old exhaust!

The blue is a lovely colour, there are 2 more where I live one blue and the other is a trophy.

Does yours have the cup packs?

Sorry, what does FF stand for?
This is a good page for a quick run down of the different models:

Thought all FF's had the Cup spoiler like the Racing Blue above.

The Black Gold is a stunning colour all the same, nice!
Mine does have both cup packs, so it has the cup spoiler. Not sure but the blue one might have the trophy (and therefore V6) spoiler? The seats look bloody nice, not managed to get myself properly comfortable on long journeys yet. The remarks look like the ones in my old Teg type R.

I'd of bought racing blue if I could find one!

Wrong choice of term ref the speed thing. They are nippy but not 'fast'

The Racing Blue one posted above is the cup spoiler. Yours is the standard, non-cup pack spoiler.
Huh, yeah. Hadn't noticed. So that's weird.

Ride height looks good for cup, it's got the grey wheels.

Also got front splitter. (What's left of it anyway) but no rear spoiler?

Parts prices on these things are bonkers.

As you say ebay shows all the second hand ones come up at around £130-£180.

Can buy an entire bootlid for £40.....

Your looks great with the Turini's and Recaro's.

Had I not already spent £1500 on it, I'd be ordering a new spoiler, a new splitter, re-trim the steering wheel and sort the wheels out.

Sad that the guy in the local Renault parts department recognises me now!!

Measured the Suspension. 60mm - Phew!

I'm a bit late to this thread Graham, these are great fun little cars...reminded me of the Williams clio when I drove one.

btw there is a chap near me that does wheel referbs for £50 a rim, not used him myself but he has a decent reputation locally.
driving
If I ever get stop breaking things I'll get the wheels done.

Just snapped a bolt on the fuel rail cover. Rattling like a good'un!

I've seen several people replace their front splitter with a Skoda one, which is only £ 12, and i can't see the difference (at least not in the photo's)
There's a noticeable difference imo. But not >£100 worth of difference.

Mine with the fabia splitter:

This is my plan, as you say it might not be 100% but for over £100 difference I can survive! £130 sounds expensive though, my local dealer wanted £115 iirc.

So yesterday I found the snapped fuel rail crash guard mounting bolts, I now know that was the source of my rattle. Have removed it until I buy new studs at the weekend (I'm paranoid it'll fall into the fan shroud!) I thought it was exhaust but while inspecting that I found that the fitters haven't done an amazing job. It has an air leak. I haven't got time to remove and refit so have gun-gummed the st out of the connection, I think the rubber might be missing between the cat/centre section. Another job to the list.

Chris, if we ever get out for this beer then have a drive. It's a hoot!

Jonny - how's the 650? Miss the M5?

Quick update time. The car continues to swallow money although the rate seems to have slowed.

This month was a rear wheel bearing. Replacement was a total doddle and got a really good price via the cliosport website (saved the membership + some!)

Well I say a total doddle, how do you get locking wheel nuts off without a key?? internet consensus was chisel off the outer ring and get a LH thread nut remover. well... I destroyed 2 chisel's and got nowhere so...... off to a chap I know through work that is possibly the most talented machinist ive ever met. (pm for contact details, he'll make anything metal!)

Here are the results:

Jobs still to do are:
Temp gauge
wheel refurb
steering wheel retrim
new splitter
mats

then I think just maybe i'll be able to enjoy it and get it on track!

As its Airshow week, I thought i'd get a pic of the Red Arrows and the latest member:

Welsh, I know exactly what you mean about niggles. I have to sort them also, otherwise I get fed up and change the car. I've done it so many times in the past.

The mats look great, I've fired them an email seeing if they can add the older style RS logo as I prefer it. Thanks for the tip smile

It is beginning to annoy me already. Think I'm just going to respray them in black gold when I do the front bumper repair currently in prog!

Still, I did it to try and keep me interested in the car, working slightly!

Silver originally. They are a bit scratched up but not too bad. Like I said I'm getting bored already so trying to think of cheap tinkering I can do to renew my interest a bit!

Could go black but it might be a bit dull inside, could do yellow as I'm going to get the steering wheel re-trimmed with yellow stitching.

May shove my plate on it to make it look a bit different, the £25 retention is up soon. Seems pointless to have had it on retention more than actually on cars!

Crikey john. Good effort. Glad the temp gauge now works, always worried me a bit. Wheel looks good!

Haha, yes the clutch is ridiculous!

Slightly jealous of john now. The service on the '55 cost more than I sold it to him for! I'll certainly have another when funds allow 2 cars!
