Turned 20 about 3 weeks ago and a friend at the time was looking for an ls400 so as you do i stuck my details into comparison site and £1600 popped up. £1600 to insure a 4.0 v8 at 20 it needed to be done.

so i sold my mk1 1.8 mx5

then had to find an ls400, i prefer the mk4 facelift due to the vvt engine and i think it looks much better. Found one 90 miles away. a grand cash handed over and the big old girl is mine

Averaged 33mpg driving back in it and been averaging around 17 around town in it which isn't bad at all for what it is.

Plans are to LPG it, get some lowering springs, free up the v8s vocal chords with exhaust and cone filter then find some 350z gt rays wheels

They are a great, very well made car. not really tuning material ( in my opinion) would have gone for the GS430 sport they look really cool. enjoy it!
in my opinion the 1uz is leaps and bounds ahead of the 2uz and 3uz engines, the over engineering that went into the engine which was originally designed to be for an indycar and the entire car is unreal.

it is just so nice and smooth to drive though, can barely tell it's started

33mpg sitting between 40-80mph. over 100 miles with some testing of the cars performance i averaged 31.3mpg it has an extremely low drag coefficient so that helps.
This is my fuelly account for it

Just checked that and the boot is fine. Only issues i have is the front cig lighter doesn't work and it needs a new key fob. Trying to find a set of the DHP wheels currently as they look so much nicer

Very nice, can we see the big ol' motor and the luxury interior?
i'll get some pictures up later on. being the VVT model the engine is mainly plastic covers and hoses though and the interior is a lovely cream colour with stained back seats currently. Just pricing up some dye kits to try get them as good as new.

MAin reason of getting the 'old timer car' it's only marginally worse so far than the mx5 mainly due to different driving styles and it's a big 5 seater that's unbelievably comfortable and quiet and is extremely reliable

Had this piece of kit turn up today biggrin

Hopefully reduces the running costs a little. Seems simple enough to install i'll try to take a few pictures of the install

You've just illustrated the biggest problem with the Lexus. It's an entirely rational choice. It's bought for a list of perfectly good reasons, and that's it.

It's still a great bit of engineering and I respect it enormously.

Technically miles ahead of the Jaguar XJ, but the thirsty, less well built Jag is the one I would have.

i don't think a luxury v8 barge is ever a rational choice haha, my mk1 would never see above 30mpg, guessing you have the later vvt one?

Take the exhaust off and do a burnout please? That should wind 'em up a bit more! hehe
all in good time biggrin plan is to move the cats further down the system and then run a butterfly valve to swtich from open manifold and full exhaust system. There's plenty out there and i'm going to beat on this till it dies which it probably wont

And to add it is very far from a good example, mechanically it is sound but the bodywork is terrible, very deep swirl marks that i'll try to remove when my compressor and sander/polisher arrives, But both bumpers have been destroyed and horridly repaired and i don't plan on replacing them as the cost of that just isn't worth it so i plan on maybe using it as a donor car for a 7 rep with student finance money come september

Well some progress was made today, halted by work and the need of a tiny length of copper pipe.

This is the tank mount in the boot, 2 lengths of angle iron secured to the boot with some rachet straps holding the tank down

The filler i have installed in the fuel flap, haven't got a pic of it in as i've only routed ventilation pipe up there so far

Bent some steel to mount the vaporiser onto the top mounts

and bent a bit more to get an injector rail mount on top of the inlet

I also ran a gas line down the underneath of the car, this just followed and clipped onto the brake lines
