The newest member to the fleet, to replace the ageing, 263k scenic, which although flying through an MOT last week, just isn't making me want to drive it anymore.

So, three weeks ago, I picked up the new car, a 2002 Rover 75, 2.0 CDT Auto, Connoisseur Saloon. It came MOT'd that morning, with 134900 miles on the clock for, £100. It has scuffs to both corners of the front bumper, the wrong wheels (Club wheels, not the normal ones for this) and a cracked tail lamp. Also, the standard SatNav and radio combo broke, so its been fitted with an Alpine, in Dash DVD/Nav/BT unit! Win!

Suffice to say, I got busy. So far;

RoverRon Ronbox - This has bought just shy of 150hp (standard 114) and a huge jump in torque. Makes it drive so much better

Wheels - Club SE optional wheels. My fave in the rover range, apart from the serpents, but a straight swap for mine

Suspension - Well, would be rude not to fit ZT struts and springs. Gives it a better ride height, without being silly

Decat Pipe - This should help with the power boost, turbo spooling quicker I hope

Towbar - To be fitted 9th July, this will become the new towcar.

A bloody good clean, it needed it!!

And a full service at the cost of £37. Not bad. So now its big job is to tow the new caravan home this sunday, and provide 2400 miles a month service, comfortably! A few more tweaks will be happening to it aswell.

The Club wheels were a no-cost option on the Connoisseur models. The wheels you've now fitted were standard on Club SE and optional on Connoisseur models. Serpents were a dealer fit accessory.
Thanks buddy. I was only a Sunday assistant at Rover when these were new, I forget some parts of the specs! I love serpents, but for the free swap, I wasn't complaining for these. A much nicer wheel than I had!

Indeed, a bargain it was, the badge kills it for most people

I sold the 75 from launch. People may joke now, but back then I was earning some bonkers commission on a car which in some cases had 6 month lead times with no discount.
My Dad was the MD of a Rover Dealership. I remember the launch evening. The big screens, horns tooting etc. Fantastic. I have very fond memories of these cars, which is why I was so keen on this one.

I think i'm going to hold onto it. So smooth and comfy. The doorcard is peeling I noticed today in the rear, not bad with that age, so Ill change that. £10 for an immac one delivered. So cheap!

yes Same lump as the E46 320td, et al. Great engine, and by far the most desirable in the 75. I bought mine out of auction with 118k on the clock and no history, 3 years later it's on 168k with only a diesel pump failure to its name (a wear & tear item so I can't really complain). I have a Conn SE, loaded to the nines with kit - cruise, elec rear blinds, heated memory seats, climate control, etc etc. Great motor for the money.
Fantastic engine! I wish I had the SE, but considering I wasnt really hunting for one, and the price, I can't really moan!

This week I got the towbar fitted to the car, spoils the lines somewhat, but its needed. So today, I had my day off, got up early, and started the clean. Claybared the car, washed, clayed again, polished, waxed, cleaned and fed the leather, got the whole car looking stunning. Changed the MAP slightly on the RonBox too, made more of a difference.

Then, the towbar had its first duty, picking up the new horsebox, so it will be towing this too now, with the little horse in (weight is just in there), the caravan, and the boat!

Well im 3700 miles into it now, its doing bloody well. Returning 57mpg solo daily. And tonight, it really did the job intended.

From work, I flew up the A34, M40 into Bicester. Picked up my new (to me) caravan, and came back! Lets just say, 60mph on any hill is not an issue, infact, its a problem. Its too easy to start pulling north of 70, without the autobox even dropping down a cog, and if you know the A34, you'll know there are some good long hills!

Couple of pictures. As usual, before I took a roadtrip, I cleaned the bloody thing, again!

And all hitched up, stopped at the services just to check everything. Apart from being slower than solo, and dropping to 41mpg, you wouldnt know it was on the back!

3 Months since the last update.

The car has performed faultlessly, now up to 144k, and returning great economy, towing perfect, but alas, new job, new company car, and the purchase of a V8 Discovery means its the end of my tenure with the Rover.

This weekend will be spent, cleaning, polishing, and making some form of advert. Where to advertise a smoker like this now? Gumtree are charging £15 per car, which is a big jump frown

I put a Punto on there the other week. Right at the end it asks you for £15. I was kinda shocked.

Im not asking much for the car, so £15 hurts lol
