Lease deal seems expensive now compared to what i have started to see recently but you never know what deals are bullst until you get the car really. Friend said, oh i was offered one of these for £155 a month, same as yours, auto, 5 door. - i've given up trying to justify why it seems I've paid more. I am happy with the deal, the figures worked for me, I'm saving money compared to running my previous car, 5 year old Astra VXR.

This is on a proper personal lease, i.e. no proof of any business use required.

10,000 miles p/a
maintenance
Tyre cover
5 Door
DSG
no other options

£1780 down
£302 a month
Extra miles charged at 11ppm

All prices include vat

That looks fantastic. I really, really like it and is the sort of lease deal I would go for. I really should stop looking at threads like these!

Random question, but did the artwork for your iTunes albums appear automatically? My dad has just got a new Golf 7 (non R) and his lists the tracks like yours with no artwork, but the manual suggests it should.

Enjoy the car!
Thank you smile

Artwork does display automatically but the head unit is quite fussy on file formats.

it has to be an embedded image (not separate artwork) and can't be any bigger than400px by 400px or it just won't be displayed

Have a read of this article, i found it extremely useful and it also covers how to add DAB & FM station logos smile

i made my own for a pirate drum and bass station i listen to a lot, Kool London (94.6)

Very nice and still a bargain in my eyes given the amount of car you've got for a relatively modest monthly payment.
Exactly my thoughts too.

have to say. haven't had much chance to stress the 4motion out yet but pulling out left from a turning onto a main road and putting your foot down is an experience all on its own. the car just goes as fast as if it was pulling away in a straight line. it just pulls you round with not even a hint of wheel spin.

I don't think i will ever have another 2wd (fwd or rwd) car again.

Yeh, The list of standard kit on these cars is pretty impressive.

bi-xenon headlights
DRLs in a u-shape (see images)
dual zone climate control
Radar guided cruise control (ACC)
5.8" touch screen head unit with SD card and cd slot in the glove box
DAB radio
iPod/iPhone connectivity
Bluetooth streaming audio (which spotify works well through, including changing track from the stereo/steering wheel)
bluetooth handsfree with 4 favourites on the screen (single touch dial) and full phone book integration (including their personalised ring tone set on the phone coming out the speakers when they call)
Front and rear parking sensors with range indication on the head unit
light bending (lights in the sides of the headlights that come on when you turn the steering wheel at low speed - fantastic little feature)
auto start/stop
colour MFD in-between the clocks which also shows, track, phone call, phone list, radio station list etc)
Emergency city brake (this is been causing some negative press as the car has been known to slam on the brakes thanks to a rouge crisp packet flying to near the radar sensor at the front)
front and rear electric windows
auto folding door mirrors
total-closure and summer venting feature (all windows roll down, all windows roll up from remote)
auto lights
auto wipers

DSG also comes with launch control although i haven't been brave enough to test this yet.

i could go on lol smile

That's impressive indeed! 10k/annum plus maintenance that's a cracking personal lease deal. I believe on par or better than some you get on business deals.

So tempted to get a 3 door R (or A45 AMG) on lease but missus will definitely kill me if I do it now. Perhaps something to look for next year smile

Loving the pictures especially of the interior features. Bookmarked to see how you get along with the car.
if your other half doesn't care for cars much she will deffo hate you forever if you choose the A45. The ride is completely different to the golf and not ideal for 'family' use where as the golf will just get on with its business.

The golf is firm but damped well so it feels almost smooth on most road surfaces. (with my limited experience so far..)

Looks great although I'm biased as I got in on the lease deals too!

I highly recommend trying launch control ASAP, I caused a friend to scream like a little girl with it lol.
can you explain the procedure exactly to me please, I've tried to follow the manual but it says turn TCS off but when you push the button the display says ESP off or something.

Also - does the display inbeween the clocks confirm you are in launch mode?

Then they should change it to the 'Feels Like You're Going Very Fast' button.

SS7
race mode changes a number of parameters which is really useful and totally not like the 'sport' buttons of old

I can say this because i've just come from an 09 plate Astra VXR, complete with sport button which literally just amplified the throttle response. Complete waste of time.

The golf on the other hand,

It changes the gearbox settings so that it holds onto the gears longer, quicker (more aggressive) changes
it makes changes to the cruise control
it makes changes to the air conditioning
it makes changes to the level of power assistance on the steering
it opens up the exhaust to full boy racer mode
it changes parameters in the engine
it bumps the idle up slightly (not sure what that does)
it changes the speed of which the front headlights 'bend' when cornering
it reduces the sensitivity of some safety features like TCS and the ABS to allow you a bit more freedom
It tightens up the suspension (if you have DCC)

All in all, it makes it ready for, um, racing smile

OP - does the Race mode make a big difference to the sound? If so, have you found yourself in Race mode permanently? Are there any downsides to being in Race mode?

Car looks very nice btw.
Yes, race mode has a huge impact on the noise. The other half commented 'ooh i don't like that, we sound like a pair of boy racers' (i had to pretend i agreed, in the interests of stability in the relationship)

The gearbox in sport is annoying if you are just trudging around and that setting is part of the race profile. As far as i know you can't have the exhaust louder on any other setting - there isn't a single parameter 'exhaust' when programming the custom driving mode (Normal/Race/Eco/custom)

Gearbox is Sport doesn't change up unless you are on the throttle so if you floor it to say 5000rpm and then let off the gas the gear will just hold and the revs will just drop naturally (added to the extra noise lol)

I am still learning/finding my way so maybe i'm wrong but this is what i have found so far.

Sounds good. I'm also getting a manual so sounds like we get the upside of the noise without the downside of the aggressive Http://Electrician.inharoldhill.co.uk gear changes, although I must admit the launch control does sound like lots of fun - oh well, I can't have everything.
DSG motivation for me;

few mpg better
live in a generally congested part of the country and get fed up with constantly clutching
Launch control
better automation with the ACC
and the most important thing... sub 5secs 0-60 willy waving ability. (5.1 vs 4.9)

smile

On the subject of ACC, nothing prepares you for the awesomeness of having the cruise set at 80mph, have someone cut across you to use a slip road, have your car slow to 60 to prevent a collision then once they are out of the way the car KICKS DOWN and accelerates (quite lively too!) back up to 80. all without you touching a thing. smile

Hi OP

Any chance of a piccy of the iphone connector and what is the telephone connection like?
Im popping out later around 6ish to pick up the other half so ill do it then.

Re telephone connection, do you mean call quality? if so, outstanding! - very clear and the whole system is really easy to use while driving.

You can have 4 favourites on the head unit with touch screen buttons to dial them and you can also flick through the last dialled numbers (it pulls the history through) using the steering wheel control and they are displayed on the mini MFD in-between the clocks smile

And this is all the standard stereo?
Correct. I have the Composition Media System which is the standard, base headunit. FYI, you can't play any video files even though its called a media system lol

Right more pictures as requested. I have concentrated on the phone side of things and also some neat cubby holes that you might not know about (Even if you have one!)

The media cable for iPhone lightning cable (it also came with the standard 30 pin apple connector as well) - this is inside the cubby hole that is in front of the gear lever. it has a rubber mat in there and there is plenty of room for your phone.

Standard idle phone display showing name of phone, carrier, battery and singnal

The same idle screen on the main head unit (if you select phone) - you can have this while music is still playing, Notice the four shortcut buttons for one touch dial.

'Contacts' selected, you can use the right hand rotary knob to scroll, touch the screen and scroll iPhone style or use the steering wheel controls.

Recent call list on the centre MFD (just by pushing the up and down on the steering wheel.

free dealing directly from the head unit

Glove box picture showing the media access, standard CD slot and the SD card slot - the posher stereos get twin SD card slots.

Cubby hole 1 - this is on the drivers side underneath the headlight control - its a latched pull out flap which is great.

Cubby hole 2 - Yes i know the carpet already needs a hoover lol. draw under the passenger seat. there is also one under the drivers.

Cubby hole 3 - Under the arm rest. if you look really closely you'll see the standard 30 pin apple connector i was talking about too. i just chucked that in there.

Nice little 3 band graphic equaliser, you can 'slide' these with the touch screen

Fader control - you can move the 'target' around on the touch screen and it will adjust automatically.

Random car settings, just to show how configurable the car is and how much is done through the head unit

Random car settings, just to show how configurable the car is and how much is done through the head unit

Random car settings, just to show how configurable the car is and how much is done through the head unit

And lastly - those asking about fuel economy. this is over the first week I've owned it, the engine is not settled or worn in and i still haven't got over the novelty factor of the instant acceleration and noise smile

I did a run the other day, just into london (m25-m11-a406) it returned 32mpg overall but 42 whilst i was traveling on the motorway part which is mighty impressive (Avg 70mph)

PP, thanks for all these photos. They really give you a feel for the car. The car looks so good in red.
Glad they help.

When i was waiting for mine i got frustrated about the lack of decent photos of the interior - there were general pics but didn't cover close up on particular areas and also the head unit, no decent pics on the menus and phone operation etc.

I've also got a white 7 R which has been stage 1 tuned with a remap and piper cross intake, waiting on the BCS turbo back exhaust to be released so can eek more power out of it
are the claims of 3 second range 0-60 times realistic from the stage 1 map ?
