So weird one, on holiday in the states. Browsing for cars as you do.
Said bmw popped up for only £800, 2001, 103k miles, manual (I think).

Quick email back to my mum, to collect it and now I am the proud owner of a car ive never seen.
Getting sent some pictures tomorrow.

Not at all. Cherry is still on daily driver duty.

Got left a 02 ford focus by a dead relative also, bringing it home on the way back from the states.

Being just 20 insuring the fleet is a expensive feat.

That looks really nice, sports seats as well smile

Haven't seen these alloys on an E46 before though!
Pretty sure they're style 73 and a factory choice? Cant check in person haha

nice car for £800, iirc those alloys are one of the choices the car comes with also given you got a free wing hows the front wings on it for rust?
Rear arches are perfect, front right is perfect. The front left (the replacement) is bubbling.

If you want to keep the OEM look, you can pick up the factory fit CD player head unit on ebay for not a large hill of beans.
Think im going to have to get a aftermarket head unit. Need usb charging for the phone (phones satnav kills battery fast) and a aux cable for friends phones for music. Unless ofc the Bmw one has this?

In regards to the wings, how much do you reckon to have the replacement painted?

Edit: Its got the black window surrounds like the sport, and the seats. But its a se, can I check how it was factory ordered?

Is this reliable? Seems quite decent spec.

Bought a radio in the end while stateside. Its a kenwood, might be able to change to uk frequency, not listed to a radio since I got my last radio from the states, without uk frequency, so not a big problem haha.

Quite subtle not huge flashy thing. Comes with a rear usb port, would really like to run it into the center console somewhere, how hard is that to do on the e46's?

Assuming its a non CD unit, Halfords are doing this for £40 if you cant get the frequencies sorted.

Its got a Cd player with a dust cover (behind the badge).

Also has rear usb, bluetooth, just generally better quality too.

Oh, and if it clunks a little at the back when you lift the clutch sharply don't worry too much about it - they really all do that according to the garages I have mentioned it to about mine! hehe
Most on the M3 forums say the same thing! They don't - it's slop in the engine, gearbox, propshaft, and rear subframe bushes.
So just done about 100 miles in the 2 days I've been back.

There is defiantly a clunk at the back when setting off and 1st to 2nd changes.
Steering wheel wobble at 70mph when braking.
3 warning lights pop up at 80mph, traction control, handbrake and something else. They all disappear when car is turned off though, don't return till 80mph, faulty speed sensor or something I reckon.

Living in the highlands of Scotland, I don't need to worry about scum, people regularly leave houses and cars unlocked.

So since I got back I've put 830 miles onto it. Hasn't developed any new faults.
It's been surprisingly good on fuel. Life's easy with cruise control tongue out
Mot is due 25th jan so let's hope for a easy pass smile

Just out of interest what sort of MPG are you getting? Ours doesn't seem to drop below 30 and I've had 37 on a ~30mile a road trip.
Not sure at all, I just fill it when needed.

Done just over 3000 miles now in it, no motorway driving. The nearest motorway is over 100 miles away tongue out

Failed the mot on front brake imbalance so bought a pair of used calipers for £25.
Bought a set of 16" e46 alloys with a few mm of tread, swapping the rears to winter tyres today as im sick of being stuck.

Changed the waterpump as it was leaking, had put the job off long enough. Changed the spark plugs and oil while I was in there.

Snow tyres make the car usable during this time of year in the highlands too 😊

That's good to hear, I always thought the one right at the back would be a bit difficult as it is obscured?
There's a panel that you remove to gain access to that particular plug. There's a useful guide on e46 Zone IIRC. But if you're confident enough you'll not struggle too much.
There's a panel to remove? Just used a deep socket and ratchet to get the back one out.

Got the first set of stickers fitted. Got a full rear window sticker in the making.

Might be getting a set of quad tracks over the bonnet, roof and boot, thoughts?

Passed the mot with just advisorys for front brake imbalance and slight play in a ball joint I think.
4070 miles at a average of 29.1mpg apparently.

Got this fitted, can still see out easily, it's like when the rear view mirror is on dim mode but permanent.

She's burning oil frown
Summer tyres are back on.
Averaged 29.4 mpg and 30mph over the last 1000 miles. That's 6k done so far without anything huge gone wrong.

Check the seal for a cam-driven vacuum pump between the engine and bulkhead. The seals de-laminate for fun and drip oil on the exhaust.
Can't smell oil, slight white smoke on heavy load though

Is there any sort of test to check if that is the problem?

I had just presumed that it was burning oil due to piston rings, had that problem on my cherry.
