My previous Merc has cured me of shed desires.

Meet the new work car....

XC60 D4 SE Nav (2wd). Fairly bog standard with Winter pack. Plenty of toys... Early days yet but seems comfortable, quiet, swift (181 horses) and competent.....

I think so. I've not double checked, but the amount I'm putting in seems about right. Certainly better than the wife's Range Rover....

I'd be wanting 4wd if I were buying a vehicle of this type. Glad it's working out for you thoughsmile
I need extra ground clearance for work, but not really the 4wd penalty on fuel. If I ever need 4wd, I just use the wife's car...

You certainly do some miles !

My wife has had 3 Volvos on the trot all from main dealer over the last 15 years. She has a V70 D5 2009 model which she bought at 1 year old. Been thinking of changing it for an XC60. Test drove a 15 plate D4 R design auto and found it far too choppy ride wise. The suspension was far too hard and it just didn't ride as well as the wife's D5 R design V70, was a bit disappointed. Going to have a drive of a D4 SE LUX to see if it he ride is a bit softer. I do prefer the rear exhaust trims on the se lux over the R design.
I do a few miles - diesels love me as I do mostly long long trips once a week and very few short journeys.

I don't get the R-design love. I wish I'd gone Lux with auto....

50k in 20 months? Thats some miles. Good going. Front wheels need a clean btw smile
I set off from Yorkshire yesterday. Tonight I'm in Aberdeen, tomorrow night Stafford, Thursday night Essex. More than the front wheels need a clean....

I'm surprised. The technology to me seems pretty up to date, certainly compared to modern hire cars etc. They updated the satnav etc in 2015.

Interesting little development today. Inspected a telephone mast on top of a large hill in Scotland. I'd taken a different access route as to what was shown on the deeds. After my survey, did decide I really ought to follow the proper route as a track exists.

As I slipped and hopped down a mud track, I really hoped that this route existed to the road, as I'm not sure that my 2wd XC60 will make it back up the track to my tried and tested alternative access.

Sods law.... It dead ends, unless I fancy risking through a very muddy field. Only one thing for it - back the way I came. Very impressed with the way it climbed the track - like a little mountain goat...

72k Service today.

A summary of where I am. Had it for close to 2 years 6 months. 3rd set of front tyres. Still on Original rears at 3 - 4 mm tread. On second set of rear pads. Plenty of life left in original fronts.

Overall MPG of 47.6MPG.
