2002 in Silver, with black leather. (Cant stand beige!) 142k with full service history. Cambelt, water pump, stat and aux belt done 3k ago. All important auto box rebulid for 2k too!

General plans include to tidy her up a bit, and just generally fettle! She has taken daily driver duties from the fiesta (hurrah!)

Only have these photos at the moment and they are pants, shes also a bit dirty! Will get some more over the next few weeks as I sort various bits out etc.

The car has been away for around 10 days. Returned to me yesterday. The eagle eyed reader will see whats been happening wink



Its going to modified nationals this year. Well tomorrow it is! Ive washed clayed, polished and waxed it in preperation. Also done a full LED light conversion. All 30 odd!! Pressed plates are ready to go on. Just waiting for a few bits of trim to come back from the sprayers smile

Will get lots of pics over the weekend!

I absolutely agree on the wheels. They look shat. But have full tread on all tyres so i guess thats a bonus.

Spent this weekend at modified nationals.

The ole barge doubled up as a tent for me and the Mrs too. Do them windows up and i could hear naff all, slept like a log!!

Got back and realised i actually took no photos! Pretty bummed out but managed to find one a mate took.

I cant see an N/A V8 getting much from a map to be honest. What tuning company was it?

Was not expecting that from a 13 year old V8 with 143k on it! Lpg is 55ppl near me as well so its the equivelant of around 62ish mpg!!

The delete was done by MIJ in walsall. I have used them before so i knew how it worked. Very friendly people - would recommend them.

It now has a lovely deep burble when plodding along and a nice roar on wot. Also it remains silent at a constant speed do it doesnt intrude on comfort.

About due for an update....

Enjoyed a nice trip to the coast with the Mrs. Lovely cruise there, nice and chilled. Stayed there till late so i wanted to get home in all honesty. Clear roads, little traffic. I wasn't gunning it at every opportunity, more driving spiritedly i would say. I got 2 miles from home, and there was a loud bang, followed by alot of what i describe as "munching noise."

I knew what had happened the steering was oh so heavy changing lanes @ 60!
I pulled over, popped the bonnet, and there was the remains of the drive belt. I wasn't angry, i was after all a stones throw from home. Fired her up, and shot home.

I had a friend i went to school with who does all my mechanics, runs his own garage like. One of those not what you know, who you know moments. Went to take the car to him and it wouldn't fire. Was turning over fine, just no life. Unfortunately he had lent his discovery and trailer to someone else, and the S8 wont fit on his transit flatbed. Fortunately i have AA breakdown through my bank, score!

The guy arrived and did a few tests, i just wanted it recovered to his garage if im honest but hay ho, let the little AA man have a play. Spark plugs were dry. So he took off the intake and sprayed a little easy start in, went to crank it and it coughed.

"Hold the key and crank it!" he said

As he held the biggest can of easy start this side of marrakech, and emptied it into intake. I'm by no means a mechanic, but i knew what was going to happen. I cranked and held the key, closed my eyes and gritted my teeth...

crank crank *cough* crank crank *cough* crank crank... ***BANG***

He flew literally 8 ft across my drive, fell on his arse and i lost it. I was laughing so hard, to top it off my mother then answers the door and states: "did you knock?!"


After some head scratching for him, and some eye wiping from me, he chucked a few quid of petrol in and it started up. Told me i was a plonker for having no petrol and left. I was a bit unsure, id taken it down to the bottom of the red not so long ago, and it was showing a 1/4...

Set off up the road, got 100 meters, died again, would crank but not fire. Rang them back, told them just to recover me, and so it was.


Was rang the next day by my mate, new belt on (st that was quick) but still wont fire, ill fiddle between jobs mate.


After he stripped the majority of the car, he found it was out of petrol, only had enough to prime the lines, pump wasn't getting enough or something (I paid attention obviously when he told me, wasn't fussing the workshop dog sir honest.)

He said just keep it over half for now and he will have it back at some point to find the cause, probably a new pump.

The weird thing is though, even though this problem has developed, i wasn't annoyed or ratty, which is unusual. Normally id have it on eBay by now for letting me down. I had to drive the dreaded fiesta for a few days , but getting back into the S8 was a world and day difference. So quiet, so smooth, so effortless and comfy.

I dont care that its not the quickest, i love the fact it looks so sleek, and understated, and i love my exhaust mod. I have found myself making excuses to go for a drive, with all 4 windows down! And it actually encourages me to drive slowly, accelerate gently to get that nice warble of the V8 firing order.

I drove by a group of 6 or so workmen today, being briefed about something. I coasted up to them and gently pressed the throttle to get a warble and each one turned and started watching me drive past, with that confused look on their face, waiting for me to pass so they can see the badge of the back thinking what the hell was that. I saw them all look away in the mirror, go back to their meeting. So i dropped it in S and gunned it, they all turned back again haha. Was a good feeling.

Give if a few months and it will go for a full service, diff oils, auto box flush and a few bits and bobs.

To do list includes:

- Fixing handbrake trim
- Fitted new drivers window i ordered (crack in 1st pane)
- Leather treat / dye the seats
- Fix glovebox (have to punch it to open now)
- Get it clean and get some proper photos!

Got a week off soon so hope to do it all then!

Fuel pump has started whining. Can hear it when outside the car, so the pump issue may have to be addressed soon.

Meanwhile - i tackled my cracked drivers window. Ive had a replacement sat in the garage for a few weeks, but really didnt want to tackle the job!

Removal of the card was so easy, everything just clicks on and off in these fine motors.

Reading about it I decided to mark up where the bolts on the component carrier / inner door skin go for easy alignment when putting back together.



Undone them and i was left with this:



I can see why they crack so easy. Had to apply a fair pressure on the window to get the guides in their tracks.

Windows all back together and working fine. The retaining clip that holds the bottom of the window in place is a bit loose so it has a bit of a jolt when going from down to up or vice versa, but i can sort that later.


Also forgot to add the adjustment shims back in and found them on the drivers seat when i had finished the job! All fits ok though so i dont think ill bother.

Gave the inside a clean today.

I never knew the front seats were recaros...



Treated all seats with some leather dye i had in the garage. Not brilliant stuff but it came up ok. Love a clean interior smile

This happened today!



Just about run in i'd say wink

I know i keep saying it but i really do love that exhaust mod! Its loud but not ''everyone stare at me'' loud. Most people are oblivious but the petrol heads know that V8 warble!

Had a real good blast on some B roads as well, using the paddles. You wouldnt believe its a full sized saloon the way it corners, so flat and level. Ive never used the paddles in any of my previous cars (A8 4.2 tdi, S55 AMG) i normally whack it in sport and foor when i want to get a shift on. Using the paddles i think makes you feel a bit more connected. You are reading the road ahead, thinking like you would in a manual, just without the effort.

TL;DR - i still love it lol.

Locked the rear right wheel up. Think it shot the shoe out and jammed the disc. Will find out later today lol
