Blackout was last year. Get your paint brush out.
It will probably end up like that one day if it end up taking it on a car rally! So the new coil packs came today, replaced all 4 and found a much smoother engine, much better mpg and a LOT more power! Very happy indeed.
Put the mats in the wash, look at the state

I'd absolutely love one of these, I had a non-VRS octavia and it was genuinely a nice drive. The 1.8t engines are awesome - had one in a passat which was big, heavy and rolled a lot. I can imagine a 1.8t octavia being lots of fun!
Good job on tidying her up OP, keep on with it, it's a nice car, well worth the trouble. Mind if I ask what you paid?
Thanks! Its a surprisingly powerful motor, I'm very happy with it. I didn't pay a penny for it, it was a swap with a friend! Although I don't think that its worth much at all.Good job on tidying her up OP, keep on with it, it's a nice car, well worth the trouble. Mind if I ask what you paid?

OP have you checked with Skoda to see if the coilpack recall has been performed? If not, you can take it to them and they will replace all coilpacks FOC.
I haven't actually, but i shall do that, ill give them a ring!So heres what I mean about the suspension in general:
Offside:
Nearside:
Safe to say, I'm not exactly driving it fast at the moment
D
Today's work:
Restored the black trim around the car so it is actually black instead of grey
Had the aircon regassed for the total of £23!
Liking this car more everyday!

Doing a good job so far with it mate, a very under-rated car IMO
Cheers! I agree, my brother has an 07 Corsa vxr, and he loves this! Today's work:

Bloody hell, that poor thing has been seriously neglected. The airfilter has the look of one of those cheapo chrome Ebay specials that has been ignored for a while. I would pick up a cheap second-hand airbox (surely plentiful) and lob a pattern parts panel in there, just to give it the best chance of running well.
As you probably already know, those topmounts are completely shagged - do yourself a favour and pick up the bits from EuroCarParts/GSF for very little money, and don't drive it too far/fast/hard in the meantime.
I know, but here I am trying to breath life into something that to be honest, I shouldn't really be wasting my money on, especially seen as I just rack up the miles as a work vehicle..at 30mpg. The only thing about putting a standard airbox on is that ill have to throw the Cold Air Intake pipe away (The filter is just above the ground, shielded by the under tray). And I like the extra turbo noise!
Top mounts are on the increasing list of things to do, ideally I'm wanting just a full suspension set off eBay, i can't do with these lowering springs!

I've got a shed Golf GTi with the Same motor. Find it a really flexible unit that's more than happy to rev all the way to the redline. One thing I found was take the throttle body off and give it a good clean. Mine was so dirty when I got the car it would cause a part throttle misfire! Really to like them though, they're not handlers but make for a great daily hack at shed money
Its the main thing that surprised me about the car, the motor does actually seem excellent, even with the miles and how its been treated. I have checked the throttle body but it does seem nice and clean, so thats the first thing that i haven't had to do!I de-blacked the rears after nearly an hour per light and a full bottle of tar remover, but its paid off.

Looks sooooo much better with standard rear lights!
Thank you! It now just needs badges, and possibly the tints taken off?I had the car on a 500 mile trip last weekend. it never missed a beat, and returned a nice 43mpg (Aircon off, mostly motorway miles).

What do the mods have to do with the coil pack recall?!
Just an excuse to get out of doing it!Emeye said:
OP - try swapping around the coil packs to see if the fault moves - if not it could be the coilpack wiring - I had this on my Mk1 TT with the 225 engine..
The official fix is an expensive loom, but if it's the cracked insulation on the wires under the metallic cloth shielding (held together with press-studs located at the back top of the engine) some electrical insulating tape may cure it - it did for me!
I don't even have a fault on them, but seen as they go all the time, i thought i might aswell get them done for free! The following day however when I decide to take it for a drive, the car does seem to misfiring when boosting from 3k RPM onwards. I took a look at VAGCOM that reports general misfire and Cyl1 misfire. Coil packs are on order for this ( I decided to replace all 4).
I replaced my broken coils with second hand ones off eBay, it would have been nice to get some new ones

Very underrated cars, you certainly get a lot for the money these days!
We have the same engine in the household A6 and after 191k it's finally given up - 4 coils, alternator, clutch and the infamous oil pump being replaced, not bad going for that mileage. Definitely want another 1.8t at some point, either in VRS form or in a B5 A4, both have aged well in my opinion. Yours is coming up very well with the tidy up
If my mate hadn't of offered the swap, an Octavia certainly would never have crossed my mind. Well I hope mine holds true as good as yours, id be very happy if I got that much out of it! Not bad at all for a small displacement turbo motor.
Thanks for the comments!
I fit one of these today:
Seems to idle better, and rev freely in the high rpms now, mpg seems the same (poor!)

What sort of fuel economy does yours get? My Golf with the same engine will do 44 if driven at a steady 70 on motorways and 32-38 around town.
I managed 43 mpg on a 100 mile motorway journey the other day, but that was at 60mph average slipstreaming lorries!Around town I get around 30, if I drive careful.
Will your gold have the 150 motor though?
