My New project is a Reliant Scimitar, got it for a good price (Free) which is always a price I like to pay!

The reason for it being free is that it’s an awful nasty looking example and no one wants to give any money for it yes it’s a real sh*tter!

Perfect for a Rat Rod build! Always fancied having a Scimitar so now I have one, looking forward to getting stuck in, and it’s going to be slammed on Air suspension and a V8 is going in!

spent most of yesterday attempting to free the body, got all the front suspension off, but the body is not playing ball! nearly all the bolts had to be drilled or cut of with the grinder! even the seat belt mounts! what a mare!

Body off! Engine crane worked well, apologies for poor quality pic, chassis was a lot of hassle to free off, and nearly every bolt had to be cut off. I even had to cut the rear valence away to allow it to lift off, tried lifting from front and sliding rearwards but just couldn’t get it off.

Finally got the chassis free and into the garden!

Rusty in the usual places but repairable

Is this rotted out section at the rear factory fitted? I don’t see this section in my manual?

Odd section repaired in the past

Engine trial fitted to see if it fits? no surprise it doesn’t……

Oil filter hits the chassis I know you can buy remote oil filters, but I may just notch the chassis to make clearance.

Gearbox also clashes with the chassis

Would have been nice if the gearbox fitted, but hey ho just a bit more work.
For the gearbox will just have to section or move out that part of the chassis and make it wider.

A little update on progress…………
Removed the power steering pump and a/c, and slid the engine forward so the gearbox clears the chassis, this still does not work out as the front of the engine is too wide to in the towers. It is also too high at the front.

The best solution is to get it fitting the best at the front and to section the chassis to make the gearbox fit at the rear. Engine mount locations work out nice and easy.

Interesting, you plan on notching the chassis to make an oil-filter fit and I get blasted for notching my chassis to get my driveshaft to fit.

Interesting to see!
I got blasted on the Lotus forums for just about every thing I done on my Esprit! how can fitting a V8 ever be wrong???
I will notch whatever I like! may even just notch a random section just for the hell of it!

Some more progress today, I removed the alternator and moved the engine forward and lowered to correct height. The cross brace also fits!

The sump is very close to the front beam but could just clear if I massaged the beam a little with a hammer and dented it slightly. I could notch the beam but may get away with it just with some little fettling.

Gearbox just slips in between the chassis rails.

Hard to see with the pictures but it just fits, but does touch. I could notch it a little to allow for more clearance or could also get away with it with some fettling with a hammer.

Yep remote oil filter surely the answer?

Plus makes changing the filter a doddle!
yes that's the only option now as I have no room to notch the chassis anyway.

View from under the beam/sump it just clears but will need a tad more room.

After cleaning some crud of the chassis gained some more room! Must have had at least 5mm of dirt each side of the chassis. Both sides clear but may have to still notch it a touch.

Flipping the exhaust manifolds left to right enables you to fit them facing forward.

Now they are facing the way I want shouldn’t be too hard to run the exhaust as planed. Forward up and out the bonnet!
