Having collected my mates CX, I had to have one.

ebay was scoured, and a LHD 2.4i Prestige (lwb) was found in Brighton.

A flight down to collect, and it wasp icked up with steam pouring out and a non charging alternator.

the steam was solved by tightening the coolant tank cap, as it was loose.

The alternator proved more troublesome and led to a breakdoen on the m25.

It arrived home on the back of a truck whilst we flew up.

the doors and wings are rotton but I have a full set of spares in the car

Anyway here are some pics!

You had a bit of help from a hairy bloke in an XM...? Ian Seabrook, who blogs under "ClassicHub" - https://classichub.wordpress.com - he mentioned it on FB.

This is the one from the Bonhams auction, as mentioned over on the other CX thread here? http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=154...
https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22724/lot/139D/

Good to see it's got a new ticket!
thanks! yeah its the bonhams one-they did a fair bit to get it through the MOT.

and indeed Mr Seabrook helped with the tinkering.

Have a shot of the interior- tis LUSH
!

Awesome. Loved mine eve though it too wasn't the mintiest of examples it was mechanically great and wafted with the best of them.

Good luck with yours. Keep us updated.
that looks lovely!

the Prestige is an odd one, with the estate dors and rear end, but saloon front and rear bodywork and a bezpoke extended roof.

Mad as a box of frogs but wonderful!

I've never owned a French car - so took the "Go big or go home" approach!

What's the deal with the dash ? What's the 2 yellow squares for ?
One's the speedo, one's the tacho...

You're looking at the edge of a rotating drum - think of a lampshade - with the calibrations printed around the outside, illuminated from inside.
yup, what he said- spinning speedo and rev counter. superb!

Works surprisingly well, once your brain has adjusted. As do the rocker switch indicators.
The ergonomics of the controls are superb- and easy to get used to!

which is useful so you can concentrate on the DIRAVI steering and switch like brakes..

AWESOME! biggrin

Almost bought a CX Pallas 2400 C-Matic around 5 years ago. Nothing wrong with the car, although it needed new paint...

Will the car remain silver? Also needs flag holders so you can pretend to be a French head of state...

Yeah, it is a proper car for conveying folks- the legroom is ridiculous!

As to the colour- i'll make a decision once I've worked out what to do with the doors and wings. I quite like the shabbiness!

Oooh... Low-roof Prestige porn.

Compare the roofline of that to the standard length saloon and to the OP's Prestige - the story goes that Mitterand moaned that there wasn't enough headroom in the back, so they raised the roof a couple of inches after about a year of Prestige production.
yup mine is the high roof - slightly less space in most front rooms tbh!

Suffice to say, getting it home was not without its troubles,

we made it 50 miles into the planned 500, then had to fly home..

I've typed it all up for my blog, but long story short,

alternator = no charge = m25 breakdown

joy!

the plan is to have a look at getting the alternator off and source a replacement this weekend.

the most gutting thing is that it was a non Citroen specific failure!

Bork-tastic. Immense prospect of tinworm and random hydraulic and electrical infarction, I salute you sir. If I were braver I'd buy one.
I've had it on the ramp- good and solid underneath thankfully. The rusty doors can be sorted with a swap over to the pairs supplied with the car. then its just cosmetics and keeping on top of the mechanicals

Got a bit more looked at on this at the weekend - key thing is solving the charging issue

Spare Alternator

Plenty of stuff in the way

Inlet off, still can't really see it

Got 1 pulley off, and could get to the 21mm back bolt. Unfortunatly I didnt have a 21mm spanner, and a socket and ratchet would not fit..

at this point I put it back together and will take it to a local alternator place tomorrow -they are apparently able to supply and fit for a reasonable price.

Love it.

I had 2400 Pallas auto back in the early 90s as my daily. Brilliant at wafting across Europe.
Thanks! I'm hoping to get some use out the thing shortly..
It'll need some more work and an LHM refresh too.

thats before I start fitting new doors.

Success this morning- Spent a bit of time getting it ready for a trial run out..

I got the coolant topped up, battery charged up and put the expansion cap on. No over pressurising. much positivity!

ready to depart

How am i meant to get information from this?

No steam after the first run!

Despite successes in the coolant front, it wouldnt be an old Citroen without some issue. In this case the weak alternator and a battery clamp that would not tighten conspired to make for a lack of electricity.

Very happy with the lack of steam despite it being running for 1.5hrs.

just the charging and 1000 other things to sort now..
