long time lurker. was a member 10-15 years ago but cant remember login details.
anyway, had a lot of previous VW's and Audis, mk2 Golf GTI's, mk3 VR6's, Audi RS2 etc but having had them for over 20 years, was ready for a change.
bought a Subaru Legacy a few years ago and loved it. wanted something for the garage / weekend toy but something a bit practical too. think the FSTI fits the bill nicely :

only about 70kg more than an Impreza STI. bit more practical though. more overall room. huge boot. likes at drink of VPOWER but only used at weekends / nice days so not a problem really. can get 400 plus out of a tank or less than 200.
bought it because its a bit different. bored of VW's and Audis now. only other Audi I would now as a second car would be a nice, original b5 RS4 ( in imola ) but trying to find the right one is nigh on impossible.
paid a high price for this but has had everything done to it recently. belts, rollers, discs, pads, tyres, remap, uprated roll bars and braces. the lot.
all in all, lot of car for the money

I think the main issue with the 2.5 was the early UK ones. Bad map on thoses. Not heard any issues regarding the JDM ones and also any that have been mapped correctly for v-power etc. Obviously, boost levels not too crazy helps too. Lots of the litchfields ones still running 330bhp from new with no issues.
Again, from experience and lots of reading, problems seem to be on the 2008 onwards ( hatch model ). The cast pistons and a bad map on the UK spec ones were to blame, done by Prodrive. This one seems good, zero oil consumption but due a change anytime. Coming up to 6 months since the last one ( less than 500 mile though ). Proper warm up, cool down and regular high quality oil and filter is the best thing for any turbo powered car.
all good here so far, although only on 50k miles. Millers CFS and genuine black filter ready to go on. may try a JDM pink STI filter on it this time though. not sure if they are worth the extra 20 quid or not ? will replace the K+N air filter with a Cosworth one or might even try the genuine STI one. seem a bit pricey but they were for the Group N car. on a side note, friend just bought a Group N Impreza for the forest.

Never had any issues with the standard filters but most STI items are better.
STI panel filter is expensive but gives excellent filtration for decent power gains, just note that it is a service item with a 20k mile life expectency (use to use them in both my Spec C's)
thanks. may give one a try. 20k miles, that'll be about 10 years then ! STI panel filter is expensive but gives excellent filtration for decent power gains, just note that it is a service item with a 20k mile life expectency (use to use them in both my Spec C's)
Well, half term is upon us and l have a week off. What else to do but treat the FSTI
Up on stands in the garage -
Wheels loaded up and off for refurb. Going darker this time. White and silver got a bit of kitchen appliance look!
While out of action for a few days, be rude not to swap the disc and pads.
Old ones off and new Godspeed G hook discs and kevlar pads fitted. Just waiting for the wheels to come back now and put back on.

PB back up and running. Wheels back on now. Changed the look of the car IMO. Wheelrite in Chorley have done a great job. Full strip, repair all damage, re-powder, fit tyres and balanced back up all for £50 per wheel. He is a small operation ( just him ) so turnaround was a week but no problem for me as it's a second car. Gave all the wheels a coat of Poor Boys black hole and then topped off with some Nattys paste wax. Anyway, pics below -
