I purchased my E60 M5 in October 2013. Fast forward 2 years and I've not really had any major issues just usual servicing at BMW, new diversity antenna, sunroof seal and front discs skimmed and one tyre due to puncture. It's now on 59,500 miles and I will probably run it for another year or so. I had an E39 M5 before which was a great car but I do prefer the E60 M5.

A few pics, the last picture is of my old M3 Evo which I sold in 2009 , my old E39 M5 which I sold in 2013 and my E60 M5. I managed to meet up with the other 2 owners at a PH meet which felt strange seeing all 3 cars parked next to each other !

I keep in touch with Mike who bought my M5 and we quite often go to shows and meets together. The M3 had gone from about 115k and mint when I sold it to 180k looking very sorry for itself with a fair amount of rust. Another PHer got in touch with me as he was thinking of buying it and worked out I used to own it so asked about the history etc. The car had been through a few more owners as far as Devon. I got in touch with seller who lived in Surrey and arranged that we all went to the next summer south east PH meet. Soon as I got there the owner gave the keys to my old M3 and let me take it for a drive which brought back some memories ! Funny enough the guy that bought it also had a V10 M5. It's now being turned into a track car by Henry username longintheleg over on cutters.

Nice car, like the colour.

Do you use it daily and if so what's that like?

Also what is the gearbox like and is it true about the hideous fuel consumption/low range fuel tank?

Keen to know more if you are happy to share.
Mine is a second car that does about 3K a year. Fuel consumption I've never really measured but the computer is sitting at 19.3mpg average over the last few months. I suppose motorway cruising you might get 24mpg at most. Never had more than about 280 miles out of a tank even on a run, that's about £65-70 to fill it up. Gearbox is ok but not as smooth as an auto or DCT.

That's far from the worst reg for the car!

Looks wonderful.
Only just bought the reg the other week, I'm really pleased with it. Only M power petrolheads will get it though.

Hi Simon, your M5 looks lovely, the wheels really suit it. When I was looking for an M5 my 1st choice colour was Interlagos blue followed by Silverstone.
I've had 2 of the rear silencers cut open and wrapped but thinking of going back to standard as cold start is very loud. Are you running a standard exhaust setup ?

Simon ( another Simon here ! )

All 4 silencers removed must be crazy loud. I've only had 2 out of the 4 silencers modded. It must be an age thing, I feel like a boy racer with a loud exhaust ! It certainly turns heads in town that's for sure but sometimes you don't want all that attention. I fitted a Eisenmann sport to my old E39 M5 which was just perfect .
I might try a 3/4 wrap instead of a complete wrap.

Had a 240 mile round trip to Goodwood PH Sunday service yesterday with a 5.30am start. Great turnout of cars and had a few chats to like minded petrol heads.

Well in truth I suspect its possible no silencers isn't massively different to your setup... the rear silencers are actually a bank of 4 (as you know), but they are fed from 2 pipes not 4.... so if you 'modify' a couple of the silencers then its possible the gasses are simply exiting the modified silencers on idle.

Of cause Im basing that with no real knowledge as to what mods you have done.... if you really wanted it would be quite easy due to the exhaust design to add an exhaust butterfly that closes your modded silencers under say 2000rpm (or on a dash button)... thus you get a quiet idle and cruise with the option of proper noise when you want it.
Hadn't really thought about it possibly flowing through the modded boxes more than the stock ones. Butterfly flap would be a good idea. I've got it booked into a local place tomorrow that makes exhausts, they are called Powerspeed.

Update, the M5 went into limp mode Xmas Eve so didn't use it over Xmas. Went into dealer on New Years Eve and they diagnosed both throttle actuators faulty. Should get it back tomorrow hopefully. Covered by Mondial so happy.

Had the exhaust put back to standard as it was too loud for me lol!

Went out for a drive with the Go Pro, took it easy due to the cold roads this time of year and keeping to the speed limits. Just testing it out as I've got a track day at Bedford end of April and thought I'd get some footage.

How awesome is that! The e60 was universally disliked IIRC, never understood why. I absolutely loved the shape soon as.
Thanks, that V10 sound is hard to beat at high revs.

Sounds sooooo good.

I'd genuinely have one if they just didnt come with the huge bills. Running one without a warranty is very Russian Roulette.
Agree, buy one and put a warranty on it or buy one with a warranty and no need to worry.

A couple of photo's from a track day I did at Bedford last week. Car proved reliable only issue was PAS fluid got a bit hot. A friend was there in his E60 M5 as well and that ran perfect all day.

Enjoyed it much more than Brands Hatch Indy, Bedford is a great circuit for the M5, especially that straight and one particular left/right S Bend which was awesome to carry good speed through. The car didn't like some of those really tight corners, some of those racey track cars were all over me in those tight corners. If I've still got the car I'm planning to do another one at Bedford September time with Abi the other guy with the E60 M5. I've got some cam footage but not worked out how to put it on YouTube yet.

Agreed. I found Bedford way more suited to cars with big power and long legs. Brands was great in the M3 though and definitely my favourite UK track.

Your M5 looks stunning by the way.
Thanks

Mine has gone up twice in 3 years and that's on monthly, £102 when I took it out at 52K miles, £106 and now £112. Mine is on 61,900 miles. Zero excess.

Just buy one under 60k that's already under Mondial if you want the cheaper warranty rate.

A short clip from Go Pro on back bumper toe eye mount, Bedford Autodrome trackday April 2016.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NopBagJrLJQ

took some in car footage but the sound was rubbish, maybe next time I need to remove the back door on the go pro for more sound?
