So ive done it again, bought another shed Range Rover Td6. This one has the gearbox already dead unlike the other which limped around for a while before it died. £3100 delivered to my house.

Its a 2003 Td6 with a 2007 (i think) facelift, 22" L405 wheels, sidesteps, bluetooth and 180kish miles.

Both front tyres need replaced, ones flat and the other has cuts in the sidewall. Wheels are in good condition though, only the odd very small kerb marks.

Will probably just buy a tailgate instead of trying to fight the rust.

Not sure what I will do about these arches though.

Usual misted up rear light, fixed with a hole in the bottom I think.

Interior isnt in that bad condition for the mileage, better than the blue one atleast.

Seems to have hands free bluetooth, no idea if it works.

That rust is shocking!
Its the Highlands of Scotland, most our cars are like this after 10 years or so. See my e38 with rotted out front arches.

I swear those 405 turbine wheels are probably worth a decent portion of that price?!
About half the price I paid for the car, I also have a set of 20" stormers left from my old Range Rover so might just fit them and sell these ones to pay for the gearbox to be fixed.

Ah.. so it was the gearbox that went in your last one - I remember seeing your thread about hearing a 'gravelly' sound but never knew that you got to the bottom of it.

So, why did you decide to buy anther one with a broken gearbox rather than fix your original one? (if you don't mind me asking).

If you hadn't seen the vehicle before buying the rust must be disappointing - however if you're not too fussy about a superlative finish it looks like it could be fixed relatively easily. If you repair it and it looks 'fine' from 6ft away then most people won't even notice it's been repaired. laugh
Is any of the rust likely to affect MOT worthiness?
My understanding is that he repaired the old one and sold it to his mother in order to buy this in the knowledge he could replace the gearbox cheaply. Or something like that
Fixed the old (loose bolt) and sold to my mum.

This one popped up online for 4K and I offered him 3k and got it. Was too cheap to say no when I know I can get a box refitted and refurbished for under £2k. Means I will be all in for £5100 when fixed, with £1500 of wheels to sell as I have my old set to put on this.

Glad it's not just me that finds rust in a car less than 15 years old as shocking. Indicative of poor material, which given the price of the thing when new is still unacceptable. Note to self, all LR's rust don't kid yourself and get one as a snotter...
Another one with rust in the same spots. Seems to be fairly normal.

Surely they can't be genuine Style 7 wheels from an L405?

I do hope they are though
The guy told me the car cost him roughly 7k just a few months before so quite believable someone was spending decent money on it. He also got it from Glasgow so....

It's got the optional E46 rear arches.
My last Range Rover had the same optional extra arches. My e46 had the special extra rust version.

So the gearbox is fine...

Friend worked on it while I was at work today.

The flex plate has failed the same as my other Range Rover we think. He got it out of drive and into park and managed to get the bonnet open. Started the car up and it had a horrible noise, he feared the engine was fked - till my mum said it sounded the same as the other with the flex plate gone.

This car was advertised as having had the flex plate done, however according to this link the new ones are crap.

Not actually checked it yet but believe its the same fault as my other. So a £25 part and 7 hours or so of my friends time and it should be fixed.

Had it fault read and the only problems were a glowplug and something else that wasnt a big deal (dont remember what).
