Hello all!

My ownership of my beloved MK5 R32 http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... came to and end yesterday where i part ex'd it for a C63.

(Below is Copied and pasted from the MBClub forum to let you know of my experience of the sales process/handover/thoughts of the car!smile

Left for Warrington after work friday night around 7,30 and got there just after 11pm. Tired but the excitement kept me up most of the journey..and most of the night! As part of a deal which mean and salesman Paul H negotiated, Mercedes kindly paid for my room at the Premier inn, along with breakfast. Couldn't fault it at all.

Rolled over to the Dealership around 10am yesterday and had a nose around while i waited. Paul was quick and efficient going through the remaining paper work, payment was made, and i was shown again to the hand over room. Pressed the button on the magic remote, the frosted glass disappeared and i was met with this beauty:

Few more pics before the 3.5hr drive home:

The

The car was well presented and finished near perfect! I did notice a rear blemish which looked like it had been covered with a polish on the rear bumper but i didn't worry over it as i know il machine it out myself when i give it a paint correction. The wheels/tyres/bodywork were all generally spot on and so was the interior.

The journey home was fantastic - if a little sedated, the M6/M5 and M25 all killed me with boredom because the traffic was so bad but it was nice to have all windows down and burble home. I was extremely excited but also weirdly nervous - I'm 25 and have purchased my ultimate dream car.. it still hasn't really registered! The first tank of fuel lasted 260 miles, averaging just below 24mpg. This was from the motorway drive and also booting it around locally when i was home, and another drive to swansea yesterday night for work. Filled up today with Tesco momentum for a reasonable £65.

The car: first impressions. it is an utter weapon. The performance is very new to me coming from a 4wd V6, the way it delivers it is utterly relentless in Sport +. Using the paddles are a bit lapsadaisy but their still good enough to use.. Those barks on downshifts are brilliant! It is perfectly civilised in C mode, and dare i say economical when considering this is a 6.2, 457 BHP, 1800kg Mercedes. Im surprised how many heads its turning, i would have assumed it was just a 'black Merc' to most but I'm surprised how many glances and stares I'm getting haha. I never realised how incredibly loud it is from outside too - shows that the interior is well insulated.

Downsides - none really, but as mentioned the paddles aren't all that great to use, their a bit slow. Again not the end of the world. I think Command is great and reasonably easy to use - it isn't a patch on the newest iDrive in my mothers 4 series GC though. Very handy it has a USB in the arm rest and bluetooth works perfectly. Bit gutted i haven't got DAB either brut il add that later. I'm quite worried about those seats too - the leather feels soft enough to wear quite prematurely so, like in my R32, i will be watching how i get in and out of the car and trying not to rest on the bolster too much.

Overall - hand over was excellent and the sale from start via emails and calls, to finish where i collected the car, was brill. Paul answered everything i could throw at him and he was quick and efficient in the sales process - i didn't feel like a 'statistic' to add to his sales numbers and felt no pressure in any sales tactics. Only gripe is... £35k+ for a car it could have come with a full tank of fuel! But again, this didn't hamper my experience but just a side note and me being petty.

If the Mercedes sales and handover experience is as good as their aftercare during (and out of?) warranty, then i wouldn't hesitate to buy my next AMG from a Merc dealer.

cheers for reading and il update with any..updates!

Irfan

You have found quite literally the perfect spec. the white colours are too rental-spec, the red leather sets off the black paintwork perfectly, along with the diamond cut wheels. Still slightly too much chrome for me so I'd get the grill surround colour coded like the 507 Edition and the window surrounds in gloss black too.

Any plans for modification? You must have one of the very last with it being 14-reg

Beautiful ! I really like these, oh that exhaust note....... just a quick point, my business partner has the same engine in a GLE 63 and was strongly advised to whenever possible use Shell Nitro fuel . Hope you enjoy ownership and keep a clean licence.
GLE63 has the 5.5 bi-turbo, not the 6.2 NA in this C63, but using Nitro is probably still a good idea
Thank you for the compliments all. I absolutely love it. The red is not a cherry red as the pics suggest, its a lot darker in person and has lovely white stictching aswell.

No real plans other than maintain and enjoy for now - i will consider the Eurocharged remap when (and if) i get bored of the current power. Secondary cat delete and what not i will leave i think - learnt the hard way fiddling with exhausts when i put a Milltek non res on my R32 - it got on my nerves with drone and quickly came back off, since then it has put me off ever doing anything exhaust wise to a car again!

I also plan to get the callipers painted in the same bronze/burnt copper that is found on the callipers of more exotic AMG cars fitted with the carbon ceramics.. Silver looks a bit lost behind silver wheels.

I'm also looking to black the front grille out, along with the rear chrome strip on the boot. Quite like the chrome along the window sills, breaks up the black a bit more and looks ok with the silver wheels.

When the diamond cut wheels eventually corrode ( and they WILL in this country) they will go satin black with a polished lip.

thanks

I drove past it while parked up on Sunday, it caught my eye from quite far away as I was used to seeing the R32 parked there.

I think it's a little odd that it stands out from every other c class on the road but in a subtle way, certainly isn't as chav as say a white coupe, doesn't look at all chav in fact.

I may have had a chance at the R32 should I have come accross you but now I have no hope.

Good for you on getting the car you want!
Cheers mate.. I've lusted after one since i drove a post facelift C63 a few years ago. Similar to my R32, its a bit of a 'concorde' moment - fantastic engineering by shoe horning quite frankly a ridiculous sized engine into a normal sized car.. we will never, ever see it again so they need to be enjoyed while their still about now.

Nice to know your local too - where are you from / what do you drive? will keep an eye out for you. Bit meaning to go over to the pH breakfast meet down west on the last sunday of every month but always forget!

Out of interest as you were buying from the top end of the market what stopped you from getting a 507?
Looking at current 507 prices their still quite healthy - the car ive bought was actually a couple of £k over my budget, but i couldnt turn down a 14 plate car with 11k miles and a remainder of the manufacturers warranty remaining so i just bit the bullet and went for it!

507's interiors are eiter black, or black and porcelin. I wanted a change from black leather coming from the R32 which was black, hence the red option which wasnt on the 507s. Add in the fact a remap will exceed a 507s power output anyway i dont seem them as 'worth' the additional premium over a standard or PPP c63. I do like the alacantara steering wheel, bonnet nostrils and 507 wheels though!

No doubt thier residuals wont budge much though.. i imagine them being a collectors car along with the black series in years to come.

I'm determined to own a car containing a 63 power plant one day.

I'm just up the road in Aberaman. Keep an eye out for a spirit blue fiesta ST.

Up until a few months ago I didn't own a car that would be remotely classed as PH so I never bothered to go to any of the breakfast meets.

I will make an effort to go to at least one meet this year.
I recommend it.. CLK63's seem to be the cheapest way into the 6.2 territory these days. Will keep an eye out for you too.

First week in and im absoutely loving it. Still getting used to the car and the power delivery but i feel very comfortable with it on a spirited drive. I love M for the blip on down shifts and bangs on upshifts, its quite a neck snapper though.

only real annoyance is the traction control - during a spirited take off or corner it'll cut in midway and sap the power.. which is kind of what its supposed to do but it aint half annoying when you want to press on. Perhaps an LSD would fix this. or turning my traction control off more often!

Still worried about the leather prematurely wearing too. Its very, very soft and will defo 'wear' quicker than i want it too on the outter bolsters of the drivers seat.. im careful how i get in it but how long can that last.

Have been currently looking for some winter wheels and tyres.. thinking either the current wheels in black/silver lip or the black 507 wheels (both reps, thier only for winter) with some decent winter tyres on them. Diamond cut wheels and summer tyres are quite possibly the worst idea for winter..

Had a C63 Coupe for a couple of years. Spec'd it with the Performance Pack - taking it to just shy of 490 BHP. These are awesome machines and the engine in my humble opinion is the finest naturally aspirated V8 ever created by mankind. I always thought at full beans it sounded a little like a Rolls Merlin engine...what they put in the Spitfire aeroplane. Nice car...you will never stop enjoying it.
Did originally look to find a PPP car but the spec was never what i wanted! They hold thier values a bit better too. Just out of curiosity what have you replaced it with? I've wondered all week what id replace with and i actually dont know the answer.. and this is coming from a saddo who looks through classifieds several times a week!

ISF's are rare beast, yet ive seen two in the last three weeks which is strange and both in the pearl white. they look fantastic on the road! i say skip it and go straight into C63 territory haha

Wow - a completely different world. I've never even heard of a hand over room, let alone been in one and disappearing frosted glass. words fail me..

I consider myself lucky if the OP offers me a cuppa while he counts the used notes. I think I must be in the car-buying underclass....
Why the sarcasm? This is only the third car ive ever owned, the firs being a 1.4 golf and then an R32. This is the first car ive ever bought from a dealer, a main dealer at that... i was quite impressed and have no other experience to compare it to. Given the fact main dealers generally have a hit or miss reputation i was pleasantly surprised even if the hand over room and what not was a total gimmick, which i already confirmed it was.

People are quick enough to slate dealers on thier bad experiences on these forums and rightly so... how many possitive comments do you see of handovers and after care?

i'd probably agree your in the car buying underclass though, yes. smile

Fantastic looking car, I echo the comments about it being great to see one that isn't white with black wheels. The red leather just finishes it off perfectly.
Thank you - i have to agree! I did fall for white on red originally but felt it was a bit too 'footballer' for me.. it reminded me of the AMGs that are scragged around birmingham and manchester all over social media for some reason haha. Personally love the obsidian black, shines up a dream and generally looks very classy.

Very nice car, OP.

A mate had a C63 PPP (also in black) for 2 years from new, and it was a fun car, albeit not really for track use... new rotors and pads all round (pads split in 2 pieces) after 1 day on the track. MB weren't told about the track use bit, so it was a warranty job. smile

The red leather looks really good in yours, too. Too many are "black on black", like my mate's was. wink
thanks bud - i was settled on an ything but black leather as i felt black was a bit 'too safe'. My previous car had black leather so i just fancied a change..wasnt too sold on the duo leather combos that some C63#s have so this was a winner.

I dont think it'll see a track day anytime soon though! im too scared of ruining it. i dont even drive it 'fast' for too long as im scared of stone chips, im such a fairy.

Only thing i have been looking into getting some front protective film applied from the likes of 3M. im reading many possitive and negatives at the moment so im not sure where im going with it yet!

looked into the protective films and spoke to a few firms and they don't seem to be worth it. SunTek was defo on top, but the price to cover the front end and arches was more than having the whole car wrapped in whatever colour 3M i desired.. i don't like the fact that the protective films are made to fit, i.e they don't wrap around and under he bumper and arches etc but stop on the edges instead.. i imagine dirt and all sorts to sit on these gaps.

on the plus side, the car is being dropped off to Redline Cardiff tomorrow to get the callipers painted in a rather nice colour!

Brakes are done... very pleased with them. Took a while to pick a colour that matched what i had in mind and was well happy with the result.

an example of what the original colour of callipers looked like (on the rear)

and now:

Overall the car is perfect now in my eyes. had a wax top up with DJ Supernatural last week so after a wash this evening it will be team gleam!

Lovely car. I really miss my C63 estate ! had the PPP. Other than that i did the secondary cat delete which i would advise as it just gives it that extra little growl and barks.. without sounding non factory
what did you replace it with out of curiosity? ive always wondered what C63 owners move to. Ive constantly thought about this secondary cat delete and then chicken out, does it 'drone' if you cruise at 60/70mph? i put a milltek non res on my R32 and it came off after a few weeks because the drone got on my nerves.

i assume once those secondary cats are cut out theres no going back either! which also puts me off a bit.

Well as my name suggests im a bit of a serial car changer...

2014 saw me sell up my 420bhp Focus RS and get in a TVR tuscan 2s which i sold for the C63 in aug 2014 and in jan 2015 got a TTRS plus which i sold for an atom in April and now am back in a big barge in the shape of a F10 M5,
The M5 is a bit of a step up in every department apart from the engine, yes its quicker but there is lag and lack of noise (mainly in the cabin tbh)
yes you've clearly changed a few times! F10 M5 seems a regular upgrade from a 63. my boss has one in frozen black and it is beautiful... I'm sure noise on those can be sorted out too with a nice exhaust!

Lovely car OP, congrats. Was seriously considering one of these, but I was put off by the auto gearbox. How are you finding it? Are you missing a manual?
Thanks mate, i love the auto. Its not as fast as a DSG box found in our transporter, but it is perfect for the odd 'manual' hooning about.. i do miss dropping cogs with a conventional shift but this car suits an auto if I'm honest!

Irfan, great car!

I have one myself, which is actually my second time owning a c63

Mine is a white PP estate.

One question you asked was where someone goes after a c63. Well I owned a 2009 black / black PP for 2 years and moved to a 1M, an M5 and then back to a c63! I do have other BMW M cars but those are older and not daily cars.

Interested in the ball park cost for the caliper painting and the quality of the finish given they didn't strip the calipers down....?
that is proper in estate form! i love it, congrats. What made you get back into the 63? and out of curiosity what older M cars are in your stable.. I'm constantly eyeing up 850 CI's at the moment as a garage queen!

The callipers were £250 inc vat, quality of the finish in all honesty could pass as factory. i see no overspray, no excess paint blobs, no evidence they've been done afterwards... and i have an eye for it! i just wanted to stay away from the red as its quite common and found on PPP cars anyway.

p.s... love your username

Things are still great with the Mercedes at the moment.

I paid a visit to Mercedes Bridgend as i was just passing it last week and happened to mention that one of the diamond cut wheels on the '63 are suffering from minor laquer peel. They have agreed to change it under warranty this Thursday for a brand new replacement... happy days!

I have secured a new job, which involves a 60 mile round- commute every day compared to the 16 mile - round commute i previously had. It also means my trusty Seat ibiza company car goes back to my previous employer - my new employer offers a monthly car allowance instead. There was no way i was using the C63 for such commute, not because of cost, but more because it would just get ruined and the miles would rack up. I explored leasing options, but seeing as i was left with no car at the end of the term i thought id buy something half decent as a motorway slugger so i can enjoy my C63 properly out of work!

here's what £5,500 got me:

it's an E92 2007 320d M Sport with 130k on it and full history. 177bhp and 240 lb/ft torque seems to be ample for a commuter, the interior is a very nice place to be and i quite like the driving position. It has all the mod cons i need and for the money I'm over the moon with how much car ive got for it - i looked at GT TDI's (MK5's), A3 and A4 Tdi's and I'm surprised the money thier asking for considering the poor spec most have and the milage - some have been to the moon and back.

Will be interesting to see what real world MPG and miles to a tank il get from the BMW. Cant believe i've said that considering that i've never remotely considered that with the C63!

So yeh.. 25 years old and now i have two fantastic cars at my disposal, each serving a very different purpose. I really am very lucky.

Thanks for the comments guys. The BM on a side note has performed effortlessly so far, and by using a diesel chugger in the week it has made me appriciate the AMG a lot more! I cant stand seeing the Merc sat there all week, so i now use it for one day a week of the commute just to keep the blood flowing (in me and the car!) and on the commute it returns a very respectable 26mpg in start stop traffic on the motorway and duals.. i'll take that. a Euro trip sounds amazing! would need some serious wedge for fuel though haha.

Forgot to update this. Nice to see a few more people have dived into AMG ownership on the forum!

As above, Mercedes Bridgend very kindly changed my rear offside wheel under warranty due to corrosion. when the car was up on the ramps, they told me both rear tyres needed changing asap. one was good to drive home, the other was..erm..

so on went the spare wheel at the dealership to get me home straight to the tyre shop the next day. Laughable on the difference between the space saver and regular 255 tyre..I had some serious looks on the M4 because i couldnt pass 50mph on the way home lol.

Fresh Continental ContactSport 6 were fitted by my trusted local tyre store, who very kindly marked both wheels in the process (see my previous thread). Long story short i will not be taking any of our cars there again and will still fight my case on getting some sort of claim for atleast a refurb.. i was going to drop it but the fact the owner has blatantly waffled his way out of it to a regular customer of the last 10+ years while taking nearly £400 a few moments before i pointed the marks out begs belief, i couldnt let that go. People always say to support local business, i always have (my fanmily are in retail) and this is how a regular customer gets treated. Anyyyywayyyyy.

After a little clean up after the gritty roads it always impresses me how clean it comes up.. banging on the layers of protection when i first had the car has worked wonders.

Just hit 14.5k miles now (bought on 11.1k miles end of July).

I literally can not even remotely think what id replace it with in a few years time.. its just so good!

Nothing to update with the AMG as such.

its still been great, just shy off 19k in it now so its near the second service schedule i believe.

It went into Mercedes Cardiff last week. There is a horrid whirring noise coming from the front drivers wheel, it sounds and feels like a wheel bearing. It also sounds like terrible road noise from the tyres? the sound 'goes around' with the wheel if that makes any sense. I advised to Mercedes that i was aware the front tyres are low on tread but they still have a lot of life left in them for now.

They kept the car overnight and concluded the following day that there was nothing mechanically out of order, and they have for now concluded it is indeed my front tyres being low on tread causing the problem - on closer inspection, they have apparently worn in a 'stepped' manor (from enthusiastic driving according to the chap in servicing!) but i fail to see how that is so from a pair of tyres that are not on the driven wheels. Regardless, i was told to get the tyres changed - if the noise goes then great, it was the tyres, if the noise remains then it is going back in ASAP. It was also in for inspection surrounding a clunk noise when steering the car at a stand still ( to get out of a space etc) which also causes a noise that resembles a tyre skipping across a loose surface, even though the steering wheel actually feels smooth when doing so. Again, they could find no fault. And in all fairness this only seems to happen in the very cold weather we had over the last few months, now its getting slightly milder in the mornings i cant say ive heard it in a while.

So, currently on the fronts are 235/35/19 Conti Contactsport 5's (OEM spec). I put Contactsport 6's on the rear a few months ago so id like to get the 6's up front too.. but for some reason there seems to be a national shortage as i cant find them anywhere!!

In other news, i sold the 320d from above which i used for work as while it was a nice car, it was not comfotable place to be on the motorway and ive decided after owning that, that manual diesels just do not work well together at all.

So i sold it for what i paid for it, and picked up its replacement last week:

Its a 530d - Seems to have a good options list, full dealer and specialist history and 120k on the clock.

its also been remapped, 270bhp and 460 odd lb ft torque - for mid gear grunt it would honestly give the AMG a good run for its money! (For a few seconds until the powerband dies off).

Its a bloody wonderful car to be honest. If your bothered, the thread for that is here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
