208 GTI by Peugeot Sport

So after a good couple of months of trying to work out if I was making the right decision and figuring out what cheaper car I liked I finally sold my MKII Focus RS and bought the Pug.
I love this little car. Nowhere near as fast as the Ford, but its subtle, doesn't attract the wrong attention and handles like a go kart. Its strangely fast too in that the RS made so much noise when you put your foot down, you knew you were going fast. This makes hardly any noise inside (its a lot louder from the exhaust outside i'm told) so its surprising when you look at the speedo and you are going quicker than it feels!
So far spent money on a proper Nanolex washing kit for matte paintwork and rain literally runs off it now. Apart from that really enjoying the comfort of those massive seats and the way it drives. Also nice to have a modern interior as the Focus was starting to feel a bit dated.
Pug is 208bhp, 221lb/ft, 6.5 to 60 and has the Torsen diff, Brembo brakes, Sport bucket seats, lightened alloys, michelin pilot super sports and some other bits I can't remember!
Nothing is rattling yet, its a few months old, bought from the dealer with a few thousand dealer miles on it and a massive discount which ultimately swung it for me.
I had test drove a 308 GTI which i really liked, but purchase price and running costs for tyres and other bits weren't going to save me as much money as the 208. Peugeot really seem to have upped their game with their GTI's, I would urge people to put the Peugeot reputation of 10 years ago behind them and have a look at the GTI models. I was surprised and impressed.

Thanks guys. Bird poo I wipe off immediately if I see it just in case, I heard it can stain but it can do it to normal paint too if left a long time so I always do a quick walk round check before driving! The nanolex stuff I bought they say you only have to wash it every 6 months with it. Inbetween washes can be done with just water, sponge and then wiped down with microfibre cloth. Which is good because that first wash took 1.5 hours and I had 4 different stages to do for the whole car!!
The matte paint is weird as its rough not smooth, strangely it helps wiping the water off as it kind of helps it gather on the cloth rather than spreading it around.
I think a lot of people don't even bother checking peugeots out now, it's a good thing for us owners and (pug enthusiasts) as it makes them a bit rarer (not that it'll help depreciation though!) but it's a shame because it's a cracking car. I got 5k off this one and considering it had only done a few thousand miles it made it a really good deal. Not sure I'd pay £22995 which this would have been brand new.
I think that's a bit off putting for some. Considering the fiesta ST is cheaper new and is considered better by some.

The paint is one of the standard options for the Peugeot sport range. The exhaust does pop and bang when giving it some but it's quite muffled inside, I don't think it's as vocal as the Fiat!
I realised one thing I don't like....it has the thing where when your lights are on the fog lights come on when you turn corners! Most pointless safety feature ever. You can't even notice it when driving, but from the outside it looks like your fog lights are knackered! And there doesn't seem to be anyway to turn it off....

Save up for longer! The extra kit you get over a standard GTI makes it worthwhile. Also if you wait around near when the new plates come out like I happened to there will be deals to be had. There were other ones in this ice silver and satin white that were same price with less miles for sale online at the time I bought mine. In total at Peugeot dealers I think there was only 6 for sale in the whole country that were dealer miles when I was looking.
So had the car around 4 months now and its been a good ownership so far.
Had little niggles like steering sounding a bit noisy on occasion when moving slowly (when parking for example). This is a common issue it seems and is nothing to worry about.
Also the stereo had a tendency to turn off on occasion for no reason, but happy to say this hasn't happened for about 2 months.
The red carpets are a pain to keep clean too!
Hoping to get an induction kit next month. Just waiting for it to finish it's development before it's for sale.
That is one issue, it's a small market if at all for mods for the Peugeot Sport range. Not a lot of demand for aftermarket mods compared to the normal GTI.
I was after some springs to just drop the height by 20-25mm as I think it sits a tad too high, but I can't find any at all specific to this model.
Maybe in time more parts will come onto the market.
