My new (to me) Lexus IS 300h

Well I have purchased this today after a lemon of a 320 which shat itself after 2 weeks!
It's a 2014 64 plate Lexus IS 300h with a smidge under 30k. I bought it from Cargiant at a fantastic price and I am very happy with it.
It's executive spec, a lease special so nothing too amazing.
As you'll expect I'm planning to swap over a Bizzarini V12 and make it a drag monster so all questions I'll try to answer. Im still getting grips with it.
- MPG wise I hammered it all the way home and it did 46 mpg which is frankly brilliant. Claimed is 65, my doomed 3 series barely cracked 25 most of the time
- It's very well equipped, however if you can afford a premier buy a premier, or a GS450h (a lot quicker but not as decent on fuel)
- It makes a horrible noise on Eco when floored, on Sport the noise is artificial, the shame
- Very spacious for this class. Tonnes of legroom and far better than the boggo 3 er
- The salesmen tried to sell me another A6 it was a S Line 2.0 TDi and frankly sounded like a tractor, and very very dirty
- Road Tax is £10 for Exec, £20 for anything above that and £0 for an SE ( not worth it)
- the Lexus nav is frankly a headache. I'm glad i got the bloody remote dial and not that awful joystick!!

I'm just a bit surprised at the price but perhaps I've got bit of a bargain? I've bought a 15 plate Merc C300 Bluetec Hybrid which was an ex-lease car with around 22k miles, also from a car supermarket.
It's pretty loaded too with pano sunroof, Burmeister and full cream leathers etc. Being ex lease car everything was in very good condition, almost like new. I've £25k for it 2 months ago. I could've negotiated lower price but as I really wanted the car I paid the full asking price.
edit: Ah just re-read the post and realised you meant 30k miles :P
Haha, if it was £30k that's financial suicide It's pretty loaded too with pano sunroof, Burmeister and full cream leathers etc. Being ex lease car everything was in very good condition, almost like new. I've £25k for it 2 months ago. I could've negotiated lower price but as I really wanted the car I paid the full asking price.

It cost £16,000 which is reasonable. Was yours from cargiant?
My other choice in this was a E300 Bluetec Hybrid but unfortunately at this price it was high mileage. Instead the salesmen tried to sell me a 2013 A6 S Line. I'm an Audi fan and all but it was properly knackered! Owned by Rolls Royce plc and it had no service history too...
This one was owned by Lex Autolease.

P.S don't ever buy a BMW with the N46... mine sounds like it needs an engine rebuild already! Thankfully it has been disposed of with a full refund and is now about to do the rounds at various BMW dealers in the UK!

I wholly agree - they think it's a sports saloon - when it's more of a luxury car. It's like comparing a S600 to an A45. Haven't got time to take pics as been busy driving it (80miles/day commute) but will try and get some pics up My first white car but the wood/cream leather interior really complements it (IMO!)It cost £16,000 which is reasonable. Was yours from cargiant?

I've bought mine from Imperial. Never buy a used car without service history, I've learnt the hard way! There are so many choices nowadays anyway with competitive prices and full history so it's a no brainer. I've always had doubts about car supermarket but must say experience was very good.
I've owned a few BMWs before although all petrol - lovely driver cars but not one I'd like to be in on my commute. Good job on the full refund though!
The E91 I owned was a petrol LCI.
Does the Merc have a CVT too? Im suprised at how many cars have CVT now, thought it was mostly just Japanese cars.
I bet that Merc is comfy, definitely holds value better than the Lex. Good buy!

You bought the car for £6k, when in warranty, claimed the car was burning oil so had it replaced with a brand new engine and DPF?!

My only issue with it is the road tax in Ireland it's 1000 a year although I've had it two years and apart from consumables such as brake discs and pads and servicing I haven't had to put a spanner to it in 60k which is worth a grand a year to me. So, a month tommorow from purchase - quick!
It's been going well.
Sitting in traffic, it's eerily silent and returns over 60mpg.
Over a mixed journey, it's close to 50mpg - great since there's a smooth 2.5 V6 PETROL under the bonnet and not a wheezy 1.6 or a noisy clattery VAG TDI. I liked the A6 TDI I saw in full chav spec but I love this car even more.
One thing I would change however -
Fit a turbo to the V6. Really! I miss the turbo in our old 320 (the car was noisy and st anyway so i dont really!). It got faster and faster and faster until it felt like you were going to lift off. And it did 0-60 in nearly 10 seconds!
The CVT box is a bit dim witted, and throttle response is quite slow, but bearable. I guess that's what happens when you test drive an M5 V10 SMG with it's 65 millisecond shift time before buying this!
Its supremely comfortable and being in any other car that isn't exotica or other new cars makes me feel like trapped in a cage with an a tiger. Okay, that's an exaggeration
I doubt I will sell this car.
Hybrids are the future, not EV's. Well, I'd like a Renault ZOE, for town, but I don't like Tesla's. Too big and heavy and very bland. The V6 fake noises make me cringe in the Lexus though

Thanks. I think they look great, and even with the small boot space loss with the extra batteries, it might just work... Shame they are saloon only, I'd be all over a 3-series size estate! Haven't serviced this car yet, unneeded for now.

Agree with you about the estates though. Although our 320 boot was ste, the X TYPE we had was wonderful, massive boot with split tailgate
Today I said goodbye to The Tank, which leaves me with one Lexus, this one.
I sold The Tank for only £880, far far too cheap. Needed 4 tyres, tax, mot, cambelt. And my insurance paid out £2000 for repairs to it, so I am happy.
Anyway, the IS has broken 30,000 miles with no issues. The heated windscreen and windows are awesome in this weather.

I'm interested in one of these to replace my trusty 330d, what sort of mpg are you getting and what type of driving are you doing? Anything you wished you had know before hand?
MPG is in the 40s but I use it for motorway trips rather than city driving which not suitable really (CVT gearbox leaves the 2.5 always at high revs) If you commute around town and don’t rarely go over 20/30 then this is for you. If you want to drive in to London this is perfect rather than sitting on the sweaty, dated and slow Bakerloo line. Around town it’s pure EV so you’re going to see an extremely high MPG. Really I bought it because it’s quiet and luxurious rather than high MPG.
