Formula Classic too good to break!
Discussion
I have just bought this for the Millington running gear for my Escort as I fancy going back to rallying and for some strange reason the MSA will not allow the LS1 I have in the car presently! But what a piece of kit built to the highest standards with only the best kit. Car was part of a failed race series that only ran one race! And now they are all up for sale all 18 of them! But they are selling quick - one chap has bought two just as an investment!
One thought is to make it road legal. Does anyone know if I can prove it was a complete car manufactured in the mid 90s it would require less to pass the IVA?
The spec by the way is 2.5 all alloy dry sumped NA cosworth by Millington with cossie box and 5.1 diff with oil cooler. Brakes are AP. Everything on it is to the highest race spec.

Lubed up the cams with some thick classic oil tonight, connected a battery, dis-connected the fuel, diff pumps and coil then turned it over. Oil pressure came up straight away but it took a little longer to get to the cams so good idea to pre-lub them. Then checked compressions all the same and spot on. Next tried with the coil re-connected and the plugs out on the rocker cover - nothing! checked all the connections and wiring to see if there was a switch or something I had missed - nowt! Time to break out the multi-meter. All seemed good. Took dizzy cap off which is driven off the back of the dry sump pump. All looked OK. Then dis-connected the electronic box of tricks from the coil and jumped the negative down to ground - nice spark - coil must be good. Then pulled the centre HT lead off the dizzy cap and fitted a plug to it then shorted the coil to ground again - first good spark. So either the electronics or the opto pick up. Removed the dizzy for a better look which included disconnecting it. Re-connected wiring then turned the dizzy drive by hand - good spark? So re-fitted cap and HT leads re-turned dizzy drive - good sparks on all plugs. Now 10 pm time to pack in and re-check all connections in the morning. Then add fuel!

Engine started with a little squirt of fuel down the carbs after first draining the water out and adding hot water. Ran for about 10 min up to 75 degC then drained all the fluids out. Car was on stands so checked the gearbox, clutch, diff and rear brakes - all worked fine. Now car parked up in a corner of the workshop until I decided what to do with it!

Just had the car on Bogg Brothers rollers. The boys and dad all mucked in and after mixture changes/fuel pressure increase the car was topping out on the rollers limit of 240 at the wheels at about 6.5k so doing the 20% calc for losses that equates to more than the claimed 280bhp! Mind I had to fit a Canems 3d ecu as the original 2d had hardly any advance. Now need to grow some balls to drive it!
