Happy new car day to me! Say hello to my sensible new project car:

It’s a 2006 Cayenne Turbo S, 521bhp with a mere 160k on the clock. It also smells of dog.

This is my first Porsche as well, it’s had two previous owners and has a decent service history (propshafts, coolant pipes etc replaced). I was originally supposed to get a different Cayenne but that fell through due to it needing more work than expected.

So far on the 3 hour journey back the car felt pretty good, it needs new tyres (being fitted today), a good clean and I want to give it an oil service next week.

I’ve got some fun things planned with the car, assuming it doesn’t explode.

No car is ever treated as well as it is in its first week of ownership hehe hopefully this helps remove some of the smell of dog from the car.

I suspect I’ll need to wet vac the carpets and do something with the headliner to fully remove it.

I hope! So far it’s feeling pretty well put together. I’m cleaning the interior atm:

Spoiler, its minging but it’s coming up nicely. It still needs a full wet vac and detail but for this weekend it’s enough.

Taking it to the Essex Super Car meet on Sunday smile

The scrunge I found in the Cryanne was a sight to behold. Spent a good few hours on it last night, the car dog smell has gone for now.

It’s driving much better now that it has actual tyres, though one wheel has a weld on it and another has a very small flat spot. Will keep an eye on those, but if this turns into a long term I may need to replace them.

I’ll be doing a small service on the car next week (oil & filters), and having a general poke around the engine bay.

Any recommended Porsche specialist in the south Essex area? I want to get the car checked out and see what issues I’ll be needing to sort.

Bonus points if they are up for some content being recorded.

First failure on the way home tonight….luckily it’s a headlight bulb. Looking on line installation isn’t too tricky.

I am sad at the lack of spare change when clearing out the car. I did find a portable phone battery pack though.

Ta I’ll check them out.

Sorted the headlight issue, the bulb is a D1S for future reference. On the way to the car meet this morning I also lost m the front indicator on the same side. I had a hunch that it was a loose connection. I made sure that the headlight was seated all the way back and bingo the problem went away.

Saved myself £80 hehe

This week I need to do an oil service.

The panoramic sunroof is hosed, nothing much happens when I attempt to use it, the shade stops above 1/4 out as well. I’m going to use the manual override and ensure the drains are clear at least.

I don’t think so, mine was an eBay auction and poor impulse control.

So annoyed at myself, service parts came early and the weather is looking damp for the rest of the week so cracked on when the oil change.

The oil was hot and so the viscosity flow rate was too much for my drain pan, cue oil all over the place. I grabbed some sharp sand from the lots playground but I’m now worried about it having contaminated something. (It was quite windy)

There’s currently 6 litres of fresh oil in the car, I’m very tempted to order a fresh filter and oil, drain what’s in there to remove any chance of contamination.

So you poured the old oil on the floor, and threw sand in the new oil? bounce
Yeah, I had old sheets down but the volume was quite a lot hehe so sand was needed. What I should have done was put the drain plug back in and then sorted out the mess.

I’ll get it all cleaned up tomorrow morning, drain the oil, pop in a new filter and then fill back up. £60 of oil is cheaper than a new engine.

Yup the sprays were only ever a temp solution till I can figure out what’s next.

This is the aftermath of the oil change, I’ve put down some swarfega driveway cleaner after taking this photo:

Not had a chance to look at the results yet though due to the weather.

I'm collecting my Turbo S this Saturday. Are you attending any meets in the near future? Would be interesting to meet up!
Sure! Let me know when you have one in mind.

Glad to see another bargain Cayenne on the boards, my S is going well at the moment after costing me a fair bit in the first year of my ownership. Bookmarked to see how it goes!

Re oil changes, mine has 2% fuel dilution after 5,000 miles, so keep those intervals short!
Yup I think I’ll be dropping this oil after a few thousand, fuel dilation is something I’d never heard of before getting a Cayenne, is it a Porsche thing?

AutoAlex? Yes indeed. Sadly his Cayenne needed a lot more work than either of us expected.

I’ve now sorted the air filters, last thing on the list is the cabin filter. I’ve not done the sparks yet but I don’t see the need just yet as they’ve been done in the past.

It should do better than that. I got 27 mpg on the trip back from Stourbridge.
