This is my current car a 1997 Golf VR6 with 67k on the clock and rare factory fitted Votex kit on it, i have added Audi TT 312mm front brakes and TT comp alloys that have been powdered coated black on the insides and cut out and have the faces polished, it has had a few other bits uprated/changed but all in keeping with the car i think.

When i picked it up

Now

Have done a few little things to the golf recently, first off I split the headlights and satin blacked the insides, and refitted the standard grill as i snapped some of the clips on the debadged one. Definately prefer it with a debadged grill tho.

Also have had a couple of the wheels off for a tidy up.
The insides after being clayed, polished, 2 coats of sealant and 2 coats of wheel wax!

The faces where sanded with 2000 grit the 4000 grit and various metal polishes followed by 2 coats of sealant and 2 coats of wheel wax. Tyres will be dressed when all 4 are done and the car gets a good going over.

I then taped them up as they will be sat on the car for another few weeks before it gets used again. May leave it on for the south coast run for a laugh! May even do the other side in green tape.

It doesn't get used in the winter, been off the road for the last 2 months!

Wouldn't even bother taxing it yet but the south coast meet looks like it is going to be huge so will put it back on the road just for that paperbag can't run in the van with all those sweet cars!

Its currently got a K&N filter (for the noise really no performance!) a Milltek decat and cat back system and being an OBDII engine should be good for about 185bhp standard. Would love to charge it but don't have the funds and it drinks enough optimax as it is!

May look into a remap tho, was doing a bit of work down at Regal Autosport and Chris said could improve things a little bit. Or get a E46 M3 if i could find a few ££££ down the side of the sofa!

Not up dated this or actually done much to the car in the last year or so!

A few pics from a Ring trip last year where the old girl held up well, hoping to try and get another trip out this year.

A few recent changes include wrapping the mirrors and grill slats in 3M carbon effect film and finally getting round to retrimming my headling. It was the only thing that wasn't black in the interior and never fitted with the rest of the car in my opinion.

Grabby standard headling

work in progress

finished

Hopefully in the near future it will receive some uprated antiroll bars and possible get a full vinyl wrap over the winter with a change of wheel colour/change of wheels.

Finally a sunny pic!

They are copies of the Kamei bumper ducts that are hard to get hold of now, I got them from a chap in the states through ebay.

This is the seller but not showing any, may be worth an email tho.

Thought its about time this thread got updated with the new plans for the old girl over the winter. The aim is to improve the handling and generally tidy the body work up and give her a new twist.

In terms of the handling its currently running AP coilovers which will be staying as pleased with how they ride but am looking at fitting:

either eibach or KW antiroll bars with new drop links
full poly bush kit front and rear
Full geo set up

Other plans are to fit uprated engine mounts I am after a full set of Black Forest Industries motor mount kit just need to find someone in the states to receive order then forward on as they wont ship to the UK but think I have this sorted now!

The car currently has a Milltek decat and cat back system but for a bit more noise a Bastuck suitcase delete pipe will be going on to remove the silencer thats sits just in front of the rear beam.

Now the major part is doing a few bits of body work followed by a complete colour change vinyl wrap in Porsche Riviera Blue!

I have made a start on sorting the body work out, first of was to remove the grill as this had so many stone chips its unreal!

All rubbed down

Then sprayed to seal and wrapped in a vinyl (not the final colour but close) This will be redone when the whole car gets done was just to get an idea of what its going to look like!

Then set about removing other parts!

Rear bumper off and no signs of any rust what so ever! Just a couple of small bubbles to sort on the drivers side rear arch. biggrin

Gave the tips a quick polish no doubt the whole backbox will get a polish aswell! rolleyes

Next was the drivers side sideskirt which was very well attched!! Once removed again no signs of rust or even if the sill had ever seen water! The bottom of the wing has a small patch of rust to sort as it looks like its gone from a stone chipping the paint of the arch just above but i knew about that before hand.

a great turn around from when you have got it like the smooth look to it, i have always wanted one of these as a second car to mod. what are they like to drive?
I quite enjoying driving it, keeps up with more powerful cars and had fun in it round the ring last year. The standard brakes I found st but have been pleased with the TT set up thats on there at the moment.

The sideskirt had a few marks on from where it had been lowered to quickly onto a jack when it had new tyres fitted redface (was to low to go on the ramp! rolleyes aswell as a few other little scrapes.

So gave it a rub down

Probably wont bother adding any paint as it will be wrapped anyway once all the bodywork gets sorted.

That brings me up to date, I will update as and when I get things sorted! beer

Had a bit of time today so thought I would make a start on the rust on the wing. Once I started stripping off the stonechip and paint seems it was only surface rust as i thought and was! thumbup

Also gave the front edge of the wing a quick rub down to remove a small bit of rust from stonechips.

Once rust removed was treated with rust killer and then a quick spray of primer.

Once fully dried will rub down to blend in better. Just a couple of small bubbles to do on the rear arch then look at the other side.

There is a little bit of welding to do on the top of the sills where it has rusted due to the door rubbers holding water (common place on the mk3) but will leave this until my mate with a welder can pop over and give me a hand.

So far pretty pleased with the overall condition of body!

Updates:

Have borrowed a set of Bora alloys wheels or the old girl to sit on while I do all the work and decide what to do with the current wheels. Looking good!! paperbag

Only problem is one of the locking wheel nuts is proving impossible to get out and the socket is starting to get a bit massed up so need to sort this out. banghead

Had a quick play with some vinyl on the wing to see what it will look like.

Then started work on trying to sort the hundreds of stonechips that i have collected on the bonnet! Also had to do some work on the wing where i had cracked the paint after the Ring trip last year.

Once rubbed down and all smooth added a coat of primer, this has now been flatted back and is ready to be wrapped.

Have ordered the first lot of vinyl to do the bonnet and a few other bits, should be here the beginning of next week and hopefully get a few bits done by next weekend! biggrin

I do intend to wrap the car with a help of a mate who runs his own sign writing business and has experience doing it. Going to get him to help me with the harder bits and have a go at doing as much as i can. Should be picking up the first batch of vinyl tomorrow so may have a go at doing a few bits and hopefully get the bonnet and boot done this weekend.

As for cost I am getting the vinyl at cost so probably around the £250-300 area depending on what i decide to do about the roof (may do it satin black to break it up a bit) and how many times i get it wrong!

The first 5m roll of vinyl turned up this week!

So got busy doing a few small bits!

Then today thought i would take on a panel!, Pretty pleased with the outcome for the first attempt at wrapping anything big. Will probably redo it when the rest of the car is finished and I have improved my skills!

Hopefully get the bonnet and other wing done this week along with a few other bits, and look at painting the wheels, brake calipers etc!!

Also tempted to sell the mint leather interior for a pair of buckets! paperbagwhistle
