Hi All,
After years of using this website ive finally joined the forums so thought id start with posting a few pictures od my ride. Its a 1990 e30 M3 which ive owned now for just over a year. Its currently having a few tweaks to up the power which was safely mapped to 264bhp.

And heres a video clip from early this year with it on the AC Scnitzers.

Haha Thanks guys but im honestly not that obsessed with cleaning (maybe im in denial?)

When i bought it was being used as a daily and in pretty good condition (It was the best one id seen by far to be honest as all the others were rough as a badgers ars*!)

Fully documented history with 185,000 KM's on the clock and all solid underneath. It had uprated high lift Shrick cams (276/284 i think), full Milltek exhaust, carbon airbox/ plenum and replacement MAF,some head porting and a Dastek UniQ ecu piggyback with Paul Shephard sorting out the mapping. It also had the leather Recaro SR seats with the matching M tags in the seats.

Once i bought it home i got straight to work and spent about 12 hours with a porter cable polisher as the paintwork was in a bit of a state- lots of surface scratching/ cobwebs etc. I swapped out the std heavy rear spoiler for a full carbon fibre item and gurney flap, while also fitting the carbon DTM mirrors (which to be honest are absolutely useless but they look great :-))

Its running on H&R coilovers which have proved to be absoluely fantastic as the old Koni setup was very tired and made the car feel sluggish and cumbersome. While there the rear worn top mounts were swapped for Rogue Engineering top mounts. The BBS RS are 17 x 8.5 Front and 9.5 rear. RS 212 / 197 and have only been on the car about a month and i havent curbed them yet...

Recently ive just swapped out the minging white dial faces with a red font to the standard oem black items and also swapped the steering wheel to a Momo Tuner 320mm.

The engine is currently getting rebuilt including a few little extras so ill post back with progress. Im taking it to the Nurburgring in September (17th to 21st). Maybe a few of you guys will be out there at the same time. :-)

Cheers,

Warren

Is this the same one I was drooling over at a Sunday Service a year or so ago? (the last one at the railway station IIRC). Those BBS really set it off.
Probably not fella - wheels have only been on a month. It was on Ac Scnitzer type 1's before.

Cheers dudes smile

Ive added a clip of it on the dyno before the engine work. It was a little down on power (slightly tweaked exhaust valves possibly due to soft valve springs) and thats resulted in the engine build up.

I used to own that car between 2000 and 2003. It was completely standard when i bought it, i fitted the evo 2 front splitter and i fitted schrick cams and also replaced the timing chain and all the sprockets, i had it remapped at bexley motorworks, it made 240bhp.
Its certainly still looking in great condition.
Also went to the nurburgring in it in 2001.

Wow! pm coming your way! :-) I tried desperately to find out the previous owners to find out some more about the UK history.

from the vag scene? if so hey mate, its shayne who bought the mk3 roll cage off you years back.

i must admit that, that m3 is drop dead gorgeous. do you want to swap a 1996 p plate 4.2 v8 cerbera for it?

Edited by plumAJP on Monday 20th July 12:43
Hey shayne hows it going mate? Was it that long ago! lol I take it you sold the golf then and upgraded slightly? wink

Cheers for the comments fella. I knew these BMW's would be expensive compared to what im used to with modified Dubs but some things are just damn extortion. £180 + VAT for a front wheel bearing for example! Luckily theres an e28 wheel bearing thats exactly the same apart from the ABS ring for £60. wink

Its kind of a childhood dream to have one of these and i'm currently half way through some rather substantial engine work and ive spent a fortune on it- i dont think i'll ever sell. smile

Lovely example matep! smile

I badly wanted one in white (its THE colour for an e30 M3) or red but struggled to find one as nice as the one i actually bought.Im sure if i had waited something would have come up but after over 6 weeks and still nothing, where this one was staring back at me for over two weeks i just couldnt resist. Especially as it had the carbon airbox and remapping by Paul Shephard and the Recaro SR's etc etc i thought id be able to leave it alone and save myself money by modifying a standard one. The cars felt unbelievable to drive- really free revving with bags of torque and completely different to the first two i'd driven. it turns out ive probably spent just as much as i would have if id bought a std one but unfortunately im bloody anal when it comes to these things.

That car will look awesome in the Warsteiner livery. Have you seen Vlad's e30 M3 which has the full livery? That car on RS's is just mind blowing.

Thanks for the love guys bow

Well after deciding getting the sport evo injectors and taking it to Paul Shephard i was told the unfortunate news that the engine was down on compression (paul checks everything before doing the tunnig runs) and suspicioins were pointed at the exhaust valves getting pinged by the pistons at some point.

Ive took the car to Grant Motorsport in Bristol and once apart we found a few little problems and some other info about the engine's condition. To spare you the boring details what started out at a minor head rebuild became a full bottom end and top end build. Heres some before pics;-

Grants was really helpful showing all the bits along the way showing me everything along the way. So money shots;-

Final spec;- (all rebuilt by Grant Motorsport in Bristol)
short ratio 3.64 LSD and Z4M bush kit
276/284 Shrick cams
Sport Evo green 330cc injectors
Sport Evo valve springs
Stage 3 Ported and polished head by Grant Motorsport
Wossner Forged pistons (oversized)
Wossner piston rings and gudgeon pins
(Compression raised from 10.5 to 11)
shot peaned rods
Sport Evo oil pump
complete new sputter bearing set for the bottom end
Baffled sump
new chain, guides, tensioner, radiator, oil pump chain, valves, gaskets, new alternator and poly bushes.
Mocal oil cooler and braided lines.

Any yellow stuff pads at the front (after chroninc brake fade after 1 high speed stop - eh Paul?! ;-))

Its been in for initial mapping with Paul and it made 270-275 @ 7800rpm with 200-205 ib/ft of torque. Im absolutely chuffed to bits to get it back on the road and its driving better than ever. biggrin Paul is adding some final touches to it as i did put him under a lot of pressure to get it all finished in a day because i was off the the 'Ring but as always he always gives 110%.

I then took it to the Nurburgring from the 17th to the 21st of September and managed 8 laps - obviously wasnt caning it because im a fanny when it comes to this car but i managed a 9:30 before my nerve gave in...

Now its back its at Pauls getting everything fine tuned to his high standard and hopefully ill have it back next week ready for the next phase smile

Once back home ive decided to give the paintwork a little spruce up over winter. Ive been thinking about it for a while but theres a few small patches of rust and a few shocking repairs paid for by the previous owner that have lasted a little over 2 years.... So rather than have little repairs done all over the car ive decided to get it done properly. Ive tried to sell my logic to to the other half - it aint happening... but im doing it anyway!!! (she'd never talk me out of it!

One last pic and a couple of videos after the mapping;-

That engine rebuild must have cost a pretty penny!!! 270bhp is a huge amount from an s14.

Mine has 232bhp with the same cams but no headwork.....that is a great result.....dont suppose you could pm me the cost as Im thinking about some more engine work on mine.

Has it got a carbon airbox and is it the dastek piggy back that Paul fitted or the unichip?
Unfortuantely it wasnt as cheap as rebuilding a mk2 valver biggrin but the end result was most definitely worth it. The engine wants to scream past 8k and it seriously pulls all the way whereas before you could feel it tailing off. Paul has kept it safe and limited it to 8k and the overall result is fantastic, with loads of pull at the bottom (probably due to the head work) with a nice linear torque curve. Ill post some graphs up as soon as i have them. (Hopefully today) :-)

Once the engine build was sorted before it was mapped, Paul checked compression and it was at 220psi so very healthy(before it was 160 - 140 and i think one was as low as 120). It has the carbon airbox, with the Dasteq UniQ piggy back ecu. Removing the standard MAF makes a massive difference and the carbon airbox give you the noise. Funnily enough my car made very similar power to yours with the same cams before the carbon airbox/ headwork. Ill pm you some details but youre better off speaking with Paul or emailing sales@grantmotorsport.com as im not that great when it comes to engine stuff.

Cheers,

Warren

Hi all,

Just thought id pot up the final dyno graphs after the mapping. The mapping is absolutely spot on and the ported head seems to have ramped up the torque at the bottom end. Happy days!

Only downside is ive got to wait 3-6 months to drive it again.

Heres two runs that Paul did on the dyno, loaded and inertia. We both think the loaded is the more accurate.

I try not talking about cost on the internet just in case my Mrs checks my internet threads! ;-)

That car looks suberb - noticed youve got the Sport Evo splitter - they are NLA now - worth a fortune! How long have you had it? And how long it it take you to clean that grille?!?!?!? :-p

Bodie; Did your bro get it from Munich Legends? That where mine was first imported from. Not sure how the plate allocation works on an import though.....

Well the next phase is well under way! While the car was having the engine rebuild i noticed microblistering on the front scuttle from a shoddy repair which was carried out 2 years ago by a well reputed Ferrari/classic restoration specialist in Aberdare, South Wales. Absolutely gutted as the repair was recent when i bought it, and they were highly regarded i thought it would be one less thing to worry about. (Everyone know these motors are known for there rust on the scuttle and rear number plate recess). So i decided that while it had to have this sorted, it also needed paintwork elsewhere, and a few tiny bits of rust around the sills sorted.

Anyway off it went to Southam Bodies in Coventry who's workmanship is top class. Ive known Greg for a few years now and seen enough of the cars he churns out of that place to know how meticulous he is. Greg set straight to work removing all the panels so it now looks like this!

Scary!

The wings were absolutely knacked as water seems to gather at the bottom of the wing. More bad news as the rear number plate recess which was also repaired by the aforementioned bodyshop also was unsealed and finished poorly so was starting to rust again. Greg had to cut out this section and start again. The whole rear section and rear quarter has been bare metaled. The bonnet had a repair at some stage in the middle and was full of filler. Next stage is panels! So far its new bonnet, doors and wings with all the trimmings. Its going to be a skint Xmas!

Rear panel done right!

More pics to follow soon, with a few trick parts on the way!

Cheers,

Warren

10 points to you sir. :-)

Doors dont have the holes for plastic trims and because of that they are £370 each, wings £170, bonnet £260. Every time i read that last sentence i want to cry......

Thanks for the comments guys, really appreciated.

Also bought new front and rear carpets, heater matrix and valve.
