12 yr old with a Jaaaag!
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm Kamil, I'm 12. In October 2008 I bought a 1988 Jaguar XJ40 Sovereign 3.6 for a bargain price of £170 and named it Oliver. Oliver is also in June 2010 issue of Practical Classics.
I'm a regular poster on practicalclassics.co.uk and xj40.com. I have started my own website about my Jag and a longer story about it can be read on projectxj40.weebly.com
Heres some pics:-
What do you lot think?

No ones mentioned the flags yet.
The flags were only there for the photo, just before Drive It Day.Deva Link said:

We live on the site of a school for autistic kids where my mum works outside the gates to the main school building though so sometimes after 8pm when there is no kids around she lets me take the Jag down our close or round the school.
Sorry to be really boring, but you probably shouldn't do that - if you drive anywhere that could be considered to be a public place then both you and your Mum will be in a lot of trouble. If you're on school property then she could lose her job.It is insured in my parents' name and they currently drive it. And I was actually looking for a cheap Original MINI to restore and I once did a quick search on classics for under 200 pound and the Jag came up so I thought I might place a bid on it and thats how I came to own it. I have had insurance quotes when I put my details through confused.com with a 17 yr old birth date, I got a quote of 3500 per year which is quite a bit, I'm hoping the insurance prices will go down by the time I'm 17 though. There is a bloke on the Owners' Club Forum who has a 4-litre XJ40 and he's 19 and has it insured for something like 2800, you just have to look well to get a low quote.
Just a quick update on the work:-
I got round to removing the scuttle panel today to see if the leak I had was coming from there, when I got it off it looked as though there was a bodge there. When I jabbed it with a screwdriver it went straight through the metal plate that had been GLUED into a load of newspaper and then filled in...very badly around the edges.
So all that crap out of there, sanded down to nice metal, Hammerite'd, filled in for now and painted. Tested it to see if it solved the problem and it did!
As the filler was out, I thought I'd give the rust on the inner wings a jab and it did come through the rust on the drivers side, filled that in and painted it too. As the filler was drying before the painting on the drivers side I also got the filler on the other inner wing sanded down and painted.

Buy something else and repeat. By the time you are 17 you should have something nice and sensible to drive for a bit (read that as boring!),hopefully made enough to pay for insurance and tax and all the boring stuff and you will have learned a good bit about cars.
Bit naughty but if you dont buy and sell loads then Im pretty sure its ok and you dont get classed as a trader and having to deal with all that entails.
On Wednesday I'm making an offer on a local Triumph Spit 1500 but that one needs a full rebuild which should be fun Bit naughty but if you dont buy and sell loads then Im pretty sure its ok and you dont get classed as a trader and having to deal with all that entails.

As my polish is just terrible. Anyway as i said what a nice surprise.
I have to say I left Poland 4 years ago and now your Polish is probably better than mine. I can speak Polish OK-ish but I can't spell some words properly As my polish is just terrible. Anyway as i said what a nice surprise.
What I've been up to, instead of being glued to the PlayStation all day.
I've got most of the rear end rust removed, grinding it down & treating it with converters. Pictures below, filler should be going on soon as I can get mum down to the local Halfrauds to get some.

And so it's safe and doesn't get damaged with the wire brush, I removed the rear bumper chrome and it was in surprisingly MINT condition underneath, with only a few little rust 'spots':
Which left Oliver looking like this today:
More pics tomorrow, hopefully of removing rust around the C-pillars and rear window surround. BUT I have one question, how do you remove the little chrome finishers & the plastic in the picture below?

Christ. When I was 13 I bought my first Toyota Paseo to strip for spares (learnt alot from that actually) and then at 15 I bought a project Paseo, then gave up pouring money into a never perfect example, and stripped that too. I'm just coming up 18 and own a mint low mileage Paseo
Credit to you man, at 12 your handy with rust removal too! (though.. I guess your 13/14 now?)
When I was your age it was all about sex, porn and learning how to smoke. That said, i've slept with girls roughly your age. That said, it isn't as bad as it sounds, I was that age at the time haha.
I'm still 12, 13 on March the 9th. Just thinking about it, if I started sleeping with girls, and if mum found out she'd go nuts! I'm good with removing the rust, it's the painting I'm worried about!Credit to you man, at 12 your handy with rust removal too! (though.. I guess your 13/14 now?)

An update from today:-
I've finished cutting a piece of venner to fit the little bit that went crumbly. As it was the end of the lunch hour, my D&T teacher gave me some epoxy glue and said I can have a go at sticking it on at home. Pictures below:-
Awaiting glue~:-
With the new piece of veneer clamped down to dry:-
After 3 hours:-
Excess venner filed down:-
And as the filler had arrived a couple of days back, I started filling to make the surface smooth and ready for primer & paint.
And I made a start on sanding down the filler on the A-pillar:-

Sorry if you've been asked this, but how did your parents allow this?! Not saying they shouldn't have and I think it's fantastic, but my possible project (1978 E12 528i) was just blocked by my parents as they won't let me put it in the garage and I'm 17! Kudos young man
I just asked and they said it would be OK.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
