I already have a thread running called "My Project Supercar" but I have recently put that on hold while I have a little fun with my Noble M12.

Ive had the M12 for a few years and it has been my company car iterally, I have done 40k miles in it in this time and it remained completely standard and was quite frankly an astonishing machine that was a worthy replacement for my M3 company car (the M3 turned into my track day toy after covering 160k and is an amazing car).

Earlier this year I had a slack period at work so decided to do some routine maintenance and to correct a few known issues with my model as std (weak gearbox, no track day sump etc) which whilst had never caused issue or unreliablity I wanted to do just to keep it that way.
As with all best laid plans it all went horribly wrong, I upgraded the box clutch etc and then remapped it to 400bhp... were almost imediatelly the big ends in the engine went...

So I decided to go the whole hog and put a mountune race engine it, also upgraded the box to a 6 speeder which I has strengthend, changed the clutch again (as box used different one) etc etc.. all this cost me close to what I originally paid for the car and when finished we rolling roaded it and it did 480bhp on low boost (0.9bar full boost would be 1.7bar).
We never mapped it for full power as we had some issues with the spark plugs and so I went to lemans and had a ball in the car on low boost.... upon return the engine prompty dropped 2 valves and destroyed itself due to an assembly fault by myself.... not good frown

Anyhow I have now decided to absolutelly mad with the car, I have sold almost all the nice parts that made it the monster spec that it was (intercooler, exhaust, turbos etc etc) and I have started a whole set of all new mods... these include developing my own single large turbo setup, developing a tripple plate clutch and doing a whole set of chassis mods (I cut the rear chassis off) and some radical body mods.

All in all its going to be a bit of a monster and hopefully quite unique and maybe a little fast smile

Anyhow onto some pics.

In its std guise with some stripes that I fitted and some M400 wheels.

Engine lunched itself

[IMGhttps://www.dropbox.com/s/49wjfq3ci59sklf/CIMG1328.jpg?raw=1[/IMG]

new clutch and flywheel helped save 10kgs off the rotating masses!!!!

some of the new nice bits ready to go on... old race spec turbo and fuel pump as examples... the race spec is 600bhp and im 'going a step further smile

new exhaust runs dual external wastegates which will be unsilenced smile

body mods are going to be kept under cover for the moment, mainly as they typically look rubbish until they are complete and painted smile

yikes

That is going to fly... once it spools up hehe

It'll be lag, driving lag, driving lag, driving WOOSH
sorry but this is completely wrong and a common misconception... if its not less laggy than the previous spec and hold power over a significantly larger power band then I have messed up... full boost should be achieved at around 4000rpm and hold till the 8000rpm redline rather than tail off at 6500rpm as the twin turbos do.
Please remember there are 6 cylinders and 3L driving that turbo wereas the little turbo has only 3 cylinders and 1.5L driving it.

Also Im running a Motec M800 with anti lag and traction control etc with totaly variable boost and traction control via the ecu...

I should point out that I am not planning on running more boost than before, just hold it for longer.

This look svery interesting. Where are you? I'm on the Essex Suffolk border, was your Ultima Yellow?
Im on the essex suffolk boarder near sudbury.... my ultima was red smile

with regard the engine damage.. it was a max of 2 seconds before I registered what had happened and dipped the clutch, I was cruising at 50mph and 5000rpm in a 50 limit with no load and the music up full blast when it happened... there was no warning!

if you look at the below pic you will see one manifold at the rear going directly into the turbo, the pipe closer to the camera also goes into the turbo and comes from the front bank....

The 2nd pic shows the manifold without the turbo fitted so probably exlains it better... I changed the wastegate possition slightly from the 2nd pic as they were not optimum.

I literally just signed up to comment and keep tabs :P
I am very flattered, I've not had external wastegates before so looking forward to hearing them at full chat smile

What Turbo is that Andy?
its a borg warner, they use an extended tip for faster spool up... time will tell if they are better that the Getrag GT35's but it should be a long way ahead of the current design of turbos that are std on the noble.

The std GT03 M12 has almost no lag and the single turbo conversion is well proven in the states and people who own or have driven them back to back with the std cars say they deliver power more like a NA V8 ie produces peak torque at around 4000rpm and holds till the redline rather than tail away.

My setup is quite different to the single turbos in the states in an effort to reduce pipe length even further and so increase responsiveness so if I've got it right it should drive like a big NA V8 that revs to 8k smile

I am running a boost controller via the ecu (std on the noble) so if boost comes in too hard I can simply back it off lower in the rev range and feed it in.... I can even have 2 full power maps, one that allows it to come in gently and one that just lets it produce full boost as quickly as possible evil

Finally got to a stage with the body mods were i'm prepared to post some pics.... still a long long way from being finished but getting there.

Hope to get the engine back late feb, gona map it on the std ecu and move over to the Motec later to prevent it being off the road for too long... want some miles on it before I do some SPA track days.

Loving the wastegate pipes.

Cosmetically, they may look better one above another to one side of the exhaust or one either side of the exhaust.

Like this if you will:

o:

or

.o.
the reason the wastegate exhausts are not finalised/cut to length is Im not sure exactly of the final design yet.

I quite like the double barrel shotgun look... but Im not totally sold on it.

What I am sure of is I don't want to integrate them into the big exhaust and want to make an unusual feature of them... so all sugestions are welcom smile

Yes I've spent a lot but definatelly not a limitless budget hence I am doing almost all the work/design myself.... I designed the clutch arrangement (never used in a noble before) the single turbo and exhaust... I cut and modified the chassis myself and have done all the body mods myself.
Might even paint it myself.

If I paid someone to do all this stuff Im sure it would cost a small fortune lol

I have a little update... Ive had a lot of issues with the engine that I cant go into on here... however I picked it up on saturday.
Its effectivelly a brand new unit as all I have left of the engine that was in the car a year ago is one of the head castings and that has been heavily flowed etc.

here is the long engine ready gearbox etc

I designed a triple plate clutch as I already had the highest spec one thats fitted to the modded UK cars and it is marginal at the 550ftlb and I might go above that

Because I have modified the rear chasis the engine can be assembled out of the car with exhaust etc... means its much quicker and easier to fit the engine, so I had it in within a day.

had the turbo and the exhaust pre turbo zirotec coated to keep the heat in

I decided to get a new petrol tank made as the std system is not great and there is no room on the car for a swirl pot... so I fitted one in the fuel tank and will run two 044 pumps to fuel the car (gonna sell the A1000 I had previously)

got a few bits and peices to get made now engine is in place like oi return lines to turbo etc but hope to start the car in the next few weeks woohoo

What kind of anti-lag will it be running? The AL that I am familiar with is not kind to turbos at all!
will run the motec eventually, however not too often as it tends to kill things as you say... mainly want to run the traction control etc.

Initially however I will run it on the MBE with a safe map and then I will later push it harder with the Motec and all the safeties it has

Im using the 6 speed box from a mondeo lol... it is modified though to strengthen it and there are cars with stupid power running it in the states (1000bhp with nos).

I got it on its wheels last night

Put the car on the rollers yesterday... we capped power and torque to protect the gearbox as we dont know how much it will take.

Made 626bhp and 532ftlb... peak boost is at 7500rpm to keep power right till redline so plenty of room to increase the power if I decide to push the boundaries later.
