I may be corrected on this but
PCM1 were the original Sat/Nav stereo units fitted to early 97 Porkers (I think he year was roughly around that) cars onwards
PCM2 a far better version from 2003 onwards and with more updates but still not as good a sat nav than a Tom Tom
PCM3 even better with bluetooth and touch screen technology
Very basic analogy I know and someone will be along to fully fill you in on the differences but i stand to be corrected nonetheless
so i guess the PCM3 must have been the PCM as was in my 58 Cayanne GTSPCM1 were the original Sat/Nav stereo units fitted to early 97 Porkers (I think he year was roughly around that) cars onwards

wow.
not sure you can tune a gen 2 like that. find a gen 1 with less than 10k miles for circa £55k and you'll be happy as larry. the pcm stuff is not relevant as pcm 2 and 3 are both crap compared to the sat nav in rep mobiles like the merc c class. we buy these cars to drive them not listen to the sat nav ior speak on the phone
not bothered about the PCM never used them in the past.just finding one with low miles and with a light grey/stone sport trim and manual gearbox would be nice.not sure you can tune a gen 2 like that. find a gen 1 with less than 10k miles for circa £55k and you'll be happy as larry. the pcm stuff is not relevant as pcm 2 and 3 are both crap compared to the sat nav in rep mobiles like the merc c class. we buy these cars to drive them not listen to the sat nav ior speak on the phone
seriously thinking about selling my 964 3.3 turbo, unless i can make extra room for one more car!
Finally found one 2 weeks ago and pick it up in say 9 hours
Was looking for manual but had to settle for tip that said it has PCCB with a good spec and low miles
Cant wait

Awesome machines!!!
Mark is a true gent and kept to his word
Didnt ask for a single penny for deposit yet kept hold of the car for me
Would highly recommend Mark Pearce of Sterling Porsche
This man goes beyond the call of duty
Thank you very much Mark for sourcing such a remarkably well maintained car!!!

Mark Pearce of Sterling Porsche is the last of his kind
As for the 997 t i have just purchased its like factory fresh
You could not have asked for a better service
I looked at the car and paid Mark without even sitting in it
No test drive just paid the man wished each other all the best and bon voyage

Thank you for your kind words
I did try and take you out forms test drive
The car is a one off though and really is like it's 7 months old rather than 7 years
No driving it over 40 mph like the 1st owner please
I saw more than 1.4.0 on the A30 I did try and take you out forms test drive

One of the reasons I got a Gen I was the Metzger engine which I'm told is a bulletproof, motorsport derived lump. What does this mean and was I misinformed?
Not at all This is one of the reason why i too went for the Gen 1 apposed to Gen 2
Metzger engine is by far the best engine to date!

Yes totally misinformed, not bulletproof at all, see IMI A for details, who I believe was quoted in the region of £35K for an engine change.
Motorsport derived block is the basis for this expensive to manufacture, and very expensive to repair engine. As has already been said within this very thread the Gen2 is a step change upgrade over the Gen1. Gen2 uses the DFI engine which has, to date, proven largely trouble free.
If you're telling me the engine in my Gen1 turbo was better than the one in my Gen2 then I'm calling you out on it. It may well be the legendary Mezger, but the Gen2 is more powerful, slightly less laggy (to be fair BOTH engines show dramatically little lag) and more economical, so please explain to me, why is the Mezger based engine better???
How many catastrophic failures have there been on the mezger based engines since production ???Motorsport derived block is the basis for this expensive to manufacture, and very expensive to repair engine.
