at last, a new 981S
Discussion
done 260 miles already, and have really enjoyed it. marvellous thing.
main gripes are:
1. there is no way to show fuel consumption as part of the standard vehicle display
2. the passenger seat belt buckle bangs on the plastic and rattles on rough roads. on the 987's sport seats, it was possible to have the seat belt buckle brought to the seat by the loop .. no leather loop on 981 sport seats. a real c*ck up IMO.
also the area where the seat belt buckle bangs against on the 987 is carpet (and hence quiet), and on the 981 is plastic, so lots of noise.
So much for teutonic engineering and thoroughness.
I am absolutely loving the DFi engine, so free revving, so urgent, and sounds damn good too. And still not gone beyond 3k rpm.
the manual gearbox is so very different to the OEM short shift I had on my RS60 .. latter was sometimes recalcitrant, and required a good shove. 981 shift is more precise, and by comparison, requires a lot less effort -- too easy, I wish there was a bit more heft to it. But no doubt once run in and I get used to it, it will be fantastic. the elevated centre console does mean that you get on to the gearknob appreciably quicker -- looks good, and has user benefits.
the ride is really compliant, the car feels very light on its feet, yet extremely surefootted. I drove my usual local hoon roads yesterday morning, 981 is so composed, assured and utterly unshakeable when cornering. 987 feels very 2nd division by comparison.
tyres not fully scrubbed in yet, so had some interesting moments yesterday morning.
phenomenal car. I love it, and no doubt will love it even more when brakes, tyres and engine properly bedded in.

It looks like the right hand door sill reads 'Boxster' and the left hand one is spaced to read 'Boxster S', but you can't quite read it in the light.
well spotted !!manufacturing error ..
also, bumper not properly aligned at the front.
OPC will pick the car up on a transporter, drop off loan 991, and return and pick up 991 when fixed.

have you also found the annoying need to disassemble the key to unlock/lock the main glove box?
I also found the the other internal storage areas small; centre console storage is too shallow and the door pocket doors are too low.
not tried lock/unlock main glove box ..have you also found the annoying need to disassemble the key to unlock/lock the main glove box?

agree re:storage areas .. but still love the car.
I have some felt pads ready to stop the clanking noise caused by the passenger seat belt buckle hitting the plastic panelling while going over bumps.

Ive never gelled with open tops though.
was out for hours in the sun today with roof down.to ensure I didn't get sunstroke, put the roof up, a/c on and just cruised home .. it's a whole other car! quiet (compared to 987), and you get the hear the engine/exhaust better (even without PSE)
a sports car with dual personalities, what's not to like?
981 rocks.

What seat belt color do you have with the Carrara Red interior?
If possible, could you Post a pic.
Just ordered 981 with Carrara Red interior with Guards Red belts and its been suggested that silver belts would be better?
Ordered PASM which will lower the car.
I actually love the 981 over the Spyder, much cleaner design but of course the Spyder echoes the 550.-Dick
had standard black seat belts ..If possible, could you Post a pic.
