Just wondering since I guess after the spring flurry of activity there's been no particular GT2 talk.

Slight possibility some property action may lead to the sale of mine -- any estimates of value? 40k miles, comprehensively rebuilt suspension inc factory remanufacturered dampers, geo with certification of fixed point accuracy, full OPC throughout, carbon, nomex, tequipment bat. No nasty stories...

Petrol won't run out for decades. Diesel will be replaced by crop oil but in any case mainstream cars will become electric generated by nuclear and other modern age stuff (once the greenists have been kicked into touch). The demands on oil reserves will decrease and those of us wanting to rip about in our old petrols won't have much trouble finding it.

Hang on. What is this? Surely it can't be? Not...another 996GT2 price thread rolleyes

There really are more of these threads on here than they made cars..... Mods : how about a sticky for all GT2 price discussion? Keep it all together?...

[That comment should have been sarcasm, but actually, I think that I am serious...]
Did you open a post about gt2 values just to be annoyed and then tell everyone?

I tend to agree that a GT2 with sports seats and no cage looks like an ordinary turbo inside but still has the immense stance of the GT2 outside.

The differences from my old turbo appearance wise put it in a different league IMO. The front spoiler seems to make the turbo look tall and thin with those nasty C4S like holes, GT2 with the dividers and the bonnet vent looks low wide and mean. Obviously from behind the fact it's lower and the tyres look like they meet in the middle give it better presence.

But that's all flimflam. it's the way it drives that continues to do it for me smile

Driving wise it seems to me very similar to riding a 1000cc sports bike. Ok so it's not as fast acceleration wise under 100-odd but the way the power versus grip goes especially mid corner seems to make me have the same feelings.

Hard to describe but by carrying reasonable speed into a corner and then metering in the power as you go doesn't result in a load of scary mayhem (at least not now my suspension has been perfected) but does result in great late corner drive and the joy of getting to full throttle for the straight.

I think it'd only be scary if you mashed the throttle mid corner and tried to catch the inevitable slide when it happened without a great deal of warning.

Probably I don't drive as hard as some so it behaves really well on the curves, but the power and the poise to me makes the thing thrill me every drive today as it has done throughout the 6 years I've had it.

Maybe the bike racing I used to do has helped but I can't honestly see the "I'll kill myself if I buy one" or "It's only any good in a straight line" logic at all.

I guess you'll find that one out if you decide to sell the car smile
Priced as an equivalent GT3 I suspect the print wouldn't dry on the advert before it was gone.

Surely the turbo S and GT2 aren't in the same market at all. I suppose the engines and brakes are quite similar but the rest is night and day.

Have driven both extensively. Beg to differ.
Didn't you find the turbo pondering with lag due to the extra weight and considerably less agile when steering?

I did, although it's possible I guess that setup could dull the GT2 you drove?

Certainly compared to my normal turbo the GT2's steering was streets ahead, and the turbo S I tried was basically the same as my normal one but with more lag and extra speed higher up the range. Admittedly I noticed the same characteristic lag wise on the GT2 except the weight difference made it lots less of an issue.

I'd honestly. Be happy either but for value for money alone I'd probably go for a GT2. Oddly I think the 997GT3 is the car that I think the 996 GT2 should be compared with as it's pitched as hard edged but still road compliant.

How anyone would buy a 997 Gt3 over a 996 GT2 is beyond me. I'd take the GT2 all day long. Even better still, I can bank the difference!
I looked at dropping an extra 20k on top of my GT2 a couple of years back for an OPC 997 GT3, superb car of course but getting into the GT2 to go home it immediately felt like an upgrade.

As regards timing of sale, gt2s used to be thought of as seasonal, spring sales for upcoming track days, cheap in the winter.

How much does that still hold today?

I can't believe that MkII on ebay is still a pocket money toy.

That's going to be snapped up by a dealer at this rate and the next time we see it it'll be £59,995

I'm annoyed about not having the liquid myself to buy it and sell mine on in the spring, although why oh why oh why did he get AS? Anything but AS smile

Ah so just a mk1 with "mods". I knew there was a reason. I was assuming a MkII.
