I've noticed quite a few of these in 4.5 V8 format in the classifieds with well over 100k clocked up. So put of interest who's got/had one with monster miles on it?

They seem incredible value if they will go on and on. Lots of FFRR seem to have made north of 150k so I would imagine a Porka to be much better?

So would I be crazy for considering one with 120k miles- although it does have a full Porsche service history for £10k?

I went to look at the one at 911virgin today - it was in really good condition inside and out. It needs new discs and pads on the rear and one of the lower rear wishbones needs replacing but every switch worked including the air suspension.

Thing is with the bonnet popped I could hear a tapping sound on tick over; it wasn't too loud but it was obvious.

Also there was no mention in the history of any gearbox/clutch work or any cam chains/cam belts being renewed - even though it has been serviced by OPC all it's life.

Any ideas to those experienced in all things Cayenne?

No evidence of any gearbox work to mine either, all OPC,with a FEW more miles. How does it drive? They can sound a bit tappety from under the bonnet, sounds even better with a sports exhaust though!!
Should I worry about the tappety thing? I know 911 virgin are good guys as I've bought and sold through them previously.

Crikey that's terrible! I thought the S5 was bad at 18 - although when driven in anger it did drop to 11.8!

I know Tom answered about the tappety sound being fairly common but I have found this from an EVO buying guide:-

"The big problem is the S's Lokasil cylinder-coating failure. It starts with a sudden appetite for oil and an increasing knock, followed by a misfire as the bores and pistons are shredded. From first signs to death can take as little as 500 miles, and the problem can strike from around 70,000 miles. Turbos and later S models have a Nikasil coating which gives no trouble."

Also how can I find out if the the V8's original plastic coolant pipes under the inlet manifold, have been changed to the later aluminium ones?

Now I'm thinking the V8S should be avoided :O(

Do you have evidence to back this up or are you just spouting off?

So is 9k a good price for the 911v car? Having read some previous comments it seems mad that similar cars with less miles have sold for £4500 at auction. I'm down the pub and must admit I am a bit tempted to buy it but seeing as it hasn't been snapped up - is it value for money considering the mileage or is this just the beer influencing me?

Not crazy, but you'd be well advised to check:
tyre wear - some eat fronts very unevenly, and its not as easy as tracking/alignment
coil packs
propshaft - if there's any wobble , walk away.
parking sensors - make sure they all work
gearbox transitions - make sure there's no "clunk", especially from reverse to drive

And ten thousand seems a bit steep - I watched my old Cayenne(04 with 106) go for £4500 odd in the auctions.
Colleague has a 2004 Touareg and his trusty indie who just serviced it at 140K told him to get rid ASAP.
Yes but some cars are unloved and as a result absolute dogs. Plus the VW cannot be compared with the Porsche- Porsche have much higher quality control. I know the touareg shares quite a few components but then there are alot it doesn't AND these may be the ones that fail on a vw but not a porka

If you can find a bit more in the budget, I'm sure that with a little patience, you could find something with 30 to 40k less mileage for say £12,500, even if the plate is say 04/05. Would need a good history mind.
I'm happy to spend the money but at the same time I trust 911V. I fancy something I can abuse by throwing the hounds in the back of the car but still being able to hoon it.

I've never had a car at such high mileage and dont know whether I'm brave enough to chance it lol
