Hi All,

Would massively appreciate any experiences from members who have driven / owned both generations of 997 turbo as to the major differences in real life driving between the two? I'm aware of the mechanical, materials & output differences but if you we're in the market for one and had the budget etc, which would you plump for and why ?

Having not had a 911 In my life for a few years (previously 996 c2 then 997 c4s Gen II) I've spent the last year in an e92 M3 which is now sold and very seriously looking to get into a Turbo. Worth mentioning I am primarily focusing on Tip or PDK cars and if really worth the difference then a Turbo S is possibly within reach.

Are there any owners out there that can candidly say the difference in straight line shove is significantly different between the models (gen I vs gen II vs gen II ) ?

Also is their a noticeable difference In exhaust noise for the better ?

Appreciate the help !

Thanks for the sound advice guys, not looking to tune / modify so looks like gen ii PDK makes a strong case for itself - are there any members out there that have driven the gen II and the gen II turbo S for comparison ?

Is there much difference in grunt or is a well specced gen II pretty much as quick as the S ? Bearing in mind overboost with sports chrono plus etc

Thanks

Thanks for all the help, definitely seems to be that S has all the options ticked - that said there is a well known YouTube vid of the Russian drag race where a standard gen II turbo keeps pace with an S ? Both cars seem to get a good, identical launch and both are PDK so am surprised that the S didn't pull out any significant advantage. Do you guys think that 10 secs of over boost in the turbo means effectively same sprint times and therefore in the real world the two are inseparable?

My thoughts are that a well specced turbo (with SPC +, PTV and dynamic engine mounts etc) is a very close match

I wonder if residuals will be slightly better for it than standard turbo ? Obviously I know that all will lose money, it's inevitable, but will it fair better ?

Interested to near from owners of the S - does the carbon air box add to the induction noise and overall is it louder / nicer than standard turbo?

Thanks, amazing stats with car and driver review - not after a mega loud exhaust but at least some good noise as read a lot of negative views on 996 and gen I 997 lack of noise / drama etc.

Rimkah, amazing that you have had all 3 including the S - can I ask why you got rid ? Would you say the difference between standard gen II and S is significant speed wise or is it more about the whole experience, noise etc ?

Thanks guys, any owners of the gen II and S have good / bad things about the centre lock wheels? Visually they are great design etc but heard of issues with them and a potential recall tho I'm not sure if this limited to gt3 owners only? What does one do with a flat tire if without tools and are these supplied as standard. Apologies if asking a v. Obvious question!
