So as Fioran (I think) suggested just before Christmas the air intake disintegration into engine problem is now official...got my letter from PCGB this morning...

I will post letter later when I'm not mobile.

997.2

Not sure if it is all or just the standard GT3 which I used to have but sold for an RS. Need to check VIN.

The air intake disintegration issue was the problem with 4.0s going bang.

Update: the Letter VIN matches my current vehicle so this specific recall is for my 997.2RS (2011) car. I don't know if it affects a certain batch/period of production or if it's for all 3.8 GT3 engines. Given this was a specific issue on the 4.0 engine I hazard a guess they are being recalled too, maybe 4.0 owners can advise? Perhaps it only affects a few 3.8s in the 4.0 timeframe - I don't know if there was crossover or definitive stops between production runs, but imagine some common parts?

Thank fk it didn't disintegrate on my first Euro Hoon...Spa/Ring trip in it the other week!

Hopefully Fioran and others who spoke of this last year still have their ears to ground and can tell us more. I will update with any info I glean over the coming week.

The simplistic naivety of that letter says a lot about how Porsche regard their customers, to me. Or a lot about the people handling this side of the business, maybe they're very busy. wink
Indeed! They treat their halo customers like the average consumer/Mondeo Man...no offence to Mondeo Man, we've all been there, but this is not a company car motorway workhorse/snotter, that we only care if it gets us safely and economically from A to B, and then dispose of for the next one.

I'm afraid it's corporate lawyers who won't allow them to admit to or explain issues in more depth, which would go such along way with the loyal brand ambassadors we are. This issue, small part, but big consequences is just another in a long-line of "pat the customer on the head and do be a good chap and run along...and do buy another of our wonderful cars which we won't stand behind." Cente-lock lifed components issue springs to mind.

I do wonder if they think we're all idiots and are so suckered in to the whole halo RS thing we will just be compliant...they must realise, shirley (sic), that to have got to the position where we can afford these cars we're mostly savvy intelligent/successful people who have worked very hard to get where we are.

So come on Porsche...a bit of honest, straight talking would do you wonders and get people like me engaged rather than feel patronised by silly vaguely worded letters.

Finally, a recall. Bad form Porsche, it saddens me to say...
With regret, I agree. Porsche knew of this issue as far back as October last year and yet officially denied all knowledge until now. Very disappointing. I have already made my views known through the proper channels. I hope that lessons are learned.

Stefan/Steve - I imagine there is no warning before this part lets go and you're just unlucky if it happens to you?

I'd be interested in more background now its official, as you clearly both seem to know a lot about this issue...if you feel able to share on the forum. Also, is it only an RS issue - both 3.8/4.0 - or all 997.2 GT3s?
