I'm collecting a new Cayman S from an OPC in London in a few week’s time. It's my first ever brand new car, let alone my first Porsche. I'm part exchanging my old Diesel Scirocco, will it just be sitting down, doing the paperwork and exchanging the keys?

I'm not too proud to admit that it's a pretty big deal for me, I'm looking forward to immensely. I'm not expecting smoke, lasers and a marching band or anything but something other than mere formalities seems in order. A silk sheet cover pulled off or something like that.

Anyone want to share their experience of new car collection?

The OPC told me factory collection was no longer offered, and just to be clear I wasn't expecting to be pulled off. It's a special day but not that special.

It's coming from Porsche West London in Chiswick who have been fine so far. The sales guy emailed me offering a selection of Reg numbers to choose from, detailed the payment process and confirmed the collection date.

Collected my new Cayman S from West London Porsche yesterday afternoon.

There was no silk sheet but I didn't care, I just wanted to look at the car from every angle.

Paperwork took longer than I thought it would but otherwise it was a great experience. All options present and correct. I have never been so paranoid about scooters and London traffic but it's fair to say that I'm loving it so far.

I'm a regular over at Detailing World Forum and I spent a good 20 minutes inspecting the paint, the showroom lights were a big help. I'm glad to report that it was pretty good with only some very minor swirl marks at the top of one of the A pillars that I'm confident I can easily rectify. Otherwise it was perfect.

Forgot to mention it came with a full tank of BP Ultimate which I thought was nice.

The wheels are 20" Carrera Classics painted satin platinum. The wheels and the satin platinum are both Cayman options.

I particularly like how the combination of thin spokes painted a dark colour with a satin finish really shows off the red callipers.

Cheers everyone for sharing your experience. I adore my new Cayman S already. Spec wise I'm pretty happy, a couple of things I'd do different next time. Didn't get dual zone climate as I assumed (wrongly) that single zone climate control was standard. Old school warmer/cooler A/C is a bit stingy. Maybe leather dash next time as well. I'm from Australia where the sun would kill a leather dash in no time flat but I guess it's OK in the UK. LOVE the Burmester.
