So thinking of getting a 911. I've had a cayman and much as I loved it I can't help wanting to scratch the 911 itch. So which one. Narrowing it down to either 996 Gt2 or 997 turbo. My preference is for GT2 as it a bit more of a special. But the 997 is newer, probably a bit easier to live with/ exploit and probably less maintenance as it'll be newer. But hopefully the 996 will keep hold of its value a little better.
So any experience and advice great fully received .

Just looking for something to enjoy on weekend and sunny days. Maybe the odd track day. Currently got an E30 M3 and a caterham. sort of done the caterham thing for the last 10-15 years, after my 230 bhp caterham on track everything else is a bit rubbish. Yes there is the radical type car to play with , but I'm fed up of trailering around the country. I was comprehensivly blown away by a carrera GT last week at silverstone, but i don't have the spare £300K for one of those! The M3 is a great little car, but I feel like a bit more of a challenge to drive. Loved the feel of the Cayman, beautiful balance and poise. But the 911 seems like a car you need to get to know and learn, that appeals to me at the moment.
I appreciate the GT2 is a BIG step into the unknown, but without sounding bigheaded, I think I have the ability and patience to learn it, possibly even master it! Thing is the 997T appears to have the performace of a 996GT2, with a few more manners and the benefit of it being a lot newer.
So is a 997T a better weekend (the odd trackday) toy than a 996 GT2?
