Ive got a lumpy 911

I washed the car the day before yesterday, and was looking forward to a good 20 mile blat out the recording studio yesterday. Unfortunately on startup it just didnt sound or feel quite right - almost like it was running a cylinder down...gentle revving whilst at standstill gave the occasional pop from the exhaust too.
I phoned my local Porsche specialist (Autowerke) who suggested it could be the dizzy cap. I did give the cap a little wipe round and put back to see if that would sort it but sadly shes still lumpy.
This is my first little hiccup with the car and I cant help but be a little worried.
Anyone else have this problem? - is it a common thing with 911s? (mines an '89 Carrera 3.2 by the way).

I tried just running it for a while to let it warm up and hopefully dry out any rogue moisture but that didnt do the trick. I popped the cap off and gave it a wipe round too but that didnt seem to help either.
I DO remember getting the rear spoiler a lot wetter than I would normally though!!!
Im surprised someone hadnt warned me about this before - do you need to be especially careful when washing a 911's rear end?
How does this work out when it throws it down with rain then???

I am very pleased to report that the ol' girl is back firing on all cylinders
Turned out to be plug no.5 being fouled up causing my lumpy ride.
The local specialists (Autowerke in Norwich) were incredibly friendly and helpful and Im looking forward to going and seeing them, when they have a quiet moment, to get a 'guided tour of my own car' using their ramps etc... Jolly decent of them I thought.

From what I remember of the phone conversation I had with the guys:
As my engine parts are reasonably worn (at a tad under 113,000 miles) there is a small amount of oil seapage (sp?) - Cylinders were checked for leakage % and were within acceptable boundaries so nothing to worry about at the mo. The general impression I got was that this isnt an uncommon occurence...
All I have to do is save up the £££'s for a top end rebuild in the next few thouand miles.
