997 Turbo Juddering

My 997.1 turbo has suddenly started juddering at about 4,000+ rpm: does anyone know why it would do this? It is happening in 3rd gear and higher. The car's a 2008 manual.
I haven't used it for a few weeks, though this hasn't be an issue before.
Also, the car doesn't quite sound itself at idle and low speed - it seems a bit muted.

Quick update: the problem was the turbo actuator rod. Shame it wasn't checked when it had its service 300 miles ago, but glad it seems sorted.
