Didn't know it came in a manual wink
That's a very good point and the GT3 comes under that banner now

Does an auto deserve to be drivers car of the year ?

Or have the mags forgot about manual, EVO keep trying Manual Cayman and boxster and love them.
Even the R8 V10 plus car is manual on the EVO fleet.

I cannot see a auto being called a true drivers car.

looking at the laps times it smashed the 991 GT3 also
and powers away on the straights

unlike what the GT3 boys say on their thread where the GT3 is said to pull away over the 458S....

Flappy paddles ??

Seriously, how did you get on without a clutch, did it detract from the experience like it supposedly does in a Spyder for example ??
for a 600BHp car yes I thought is was very easy to drive and did detract from full driver involvement.

I would say for Fun my Spyder gives more.

on my short 10 miles drive though it was nice to have 600BHp, but on the road totally not usable , I would be in jail within a week.

The GT3 would not be half the car it is with the Manual box, ie, all the systems the RWS, engine torque ranges, even the brake calibrations are all designed to work around the PDK-S
Like a Nissan then :-)

When I drove the 458S I though the PDK/DCT type box was the only choice, cars this fast have no time for manual input.

To me though it's the slower cars which fail with Auto's and then the cars ruined. An Auto in a slow car like a Cayman gives you nothing to do.

The steering is so fast and direct and the cars so fast with the 458s you cannot get your hands off the wheel lol

Have you thought that maybe the same is true of the 991 GT3? Its a very very quick car (maybe too quick?) and all contemporary reviews state its an amazing acomplished machine and even Chris Harris says it would not work with a manual gearbox so maybe, like you say, this car is also too fast for manual input.

As a side note, why would you choose a 458 over a GT3? They are both far too quick for the road, they both have automatic gearboxes and they are both swimming in electronic assistance.
yes I agree the 991 GT3 needs PDK, it prob does make the car

yes I love the 458S, it's that lust thing we talked about, I loved my drive in it and I have always wanted a Ferrari.
I loved the fast steering, I love how the car changed direction, I loved the Short ratios , (but the 991 GT3 at last has shorter ones)
I love the performance 600BHp, and I like the Torque, the looks, the inside, the way there is not a 60k base model like the 991 GT3 has a base 991.

the 991 GT3 just seems a nice car, not quite as edgy as the 458S (it seems) so in Auto are you 100% maxed out, it's looks GTR easy to drive.

I would love to be able to keep my SPyder for the full rev's out manual driving open top fun car.

but the 458S just does it for me ;-)

I think you BUY speed, So if YOU want SPEED then double clutch is the way to GET SPEED.

faster is not always better and here lies the problem

Auto are easier to drive, and make 70% drivers into 85% drivers.
Auto's give you less interaction
Auto's on a slow car give you so much thinking time, you start to plan your dinner that day while you are driving.

all Super cars are too fast for the road any way so you may as well have the fastest. more expensive better looking red one.
The 458S is a nice status look at me car over the GT3 if that's your bag, look Nike sell £100 trainers, people buy them to let other know they have £100 trainers.
same happens with cars.

the 458S is £250k speced up so the status you get from that is more than the £120k GT3.

many many things play into what people want, how people drive, or what people want to be seen in.

I try and get people to try a Cayman, some just say "I want a 911" and that's what they buy.
I would never buy a base 911 over a Cayman, but then I live with the "not a real 911, or cannot afford a 911" comments one gets.

we have dream lotto car stables the 458S would get a slot in mine over the 991 GT3, that's just me and the reason does not even matter.

other wise we would all own the same cars.

I was shocked how normal it was

thought it was going to be hardcore, but it's quite usable.
