2.7 Cayman vs. 996/997

Hi All,
Since purchasing my 996, my brother has also indicated that he wants a Porsche too!
Seeing as he knows very little about cars, he has asked me to seek the knowledge before the search starts.
He initially said he likes the look and sytle of the Cayman, I think he looked at 2008 models on the internet.
So my questions, as this will be a everyday car and he would take it to work and back which is 50 mile round-trip per day:
1. If his budget is £15-£18k what would you purchase and why?
2. Which car has cheaper running costs (all in)?
3. Which car is easier to live with?
4. Parked outside all year but on a drive, anything to consider?
5. He might want an auto, as my sister-in-law is auto driver only, does this affect decision?
6. Anything else to consider?
I think the perfect car for him might be the manual 2.7 Cayman or possibly the auto....although the sister-in-law does have her own car.
No kids at the moment but who knows!!
