I don't get all the hype about the 991 GT3 it's just a meh and noisy road car that can be passed by a properly tuned Lotus Exige on track..
I bought into the hype and the next day I returned it for a 991 Turbo S. It is a proper Porsche with grip and midrange torque to cruise through the canyons..

For the price of a new GT3 you can have a low mileage 991 Turbo S...

Sorry to tell ya that the 991 GT3 is just Hype but it is in my opinion when comparing it to a 991 Turbo S.
Why buy a car that has no future performance potential ? It can't be made faster or handle better in the real world. On track it really is just meh and could never come close to a slightly modified Elise..

The 991 Turbo S is such an amazing car with a true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality in the real world. I can putt down the Hwy in complete comfort or warp speed and as soon as I get to a favorite canyon road it has the performance of a Group B monster with better grip than any GT3.....sorry it's true, I didn't want to believe it myself....

So if you are in the market for a new 991 GT3 have a look at a slightly used 2014 991 Turbo S for the same money you won't be disappointed .....

I may have cheated by installing a set of H&R springs to lower and stiffen things up just a bit....biggrin

My mate got a turbo s same time I brought my GT3 both great cars but now I am up £50,000 and he's down £30,000!!
How very sad.
Well some people buy cars for different reasons, some drive while others pose in the pub...
I really wanted to like the GT3 but it really did suck on the road.

A day is enough to know that the GT3 is just hype and a day in a proper Turbo S is enough to know a day wasted in a GT3...

Here in the canyons of Zog all posers are banned...

I'm just an old geezer that has learned enough after 40 yrs of driving the canyons at speed to know what really works and what is marketing hype...
My old supercharged Exige beats a GT3 around Willow Springs Raceway by over a second on worn street tires with only 290 whp and Willow is a high speed track..I also know there is no GT3 that can even come close in the canyons where midrange torque is needed on corner exit. The GT3 has none.
The Turbo S does...

Building and driving a 680whp 1,700 canyon rocket sled that corners as if it is on rails tells me what works and what is hype....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3lmeFi5J6Y

I bought into the hype and wanted to believe really I did but I was lucky enough to swap back the hype for something that really works.
I know guys that pay big bucks for crap will never admit they are wrong and so they smile on the outside all the while frowning on the inside...
Keep telling everyone how good it is and keeping the mileage low for that resale is key to GT3 ownership....

I just got back from another 180mi. canyon run in the best dam Porsche ever made... 991 Turbo S

Enjoy the Lotus forum...
I do... and I really like my 991 Turbo S with it's 553 ft tq at 2,100rpm...vs...325 ft tq at 6,250rpm of the GT3

This thread illustrates exactly why Porsche make the GT3 and Turbo. Two completely different markets.

The are very different cars, always have been. Real drivers know which is the proper car.
Thank you...cool

And now except for a rare few are the very typical Porsche owners response mechanism at work...biggrin

I said the 991 GT3 sucks in the canyons and in general as a road car.... and all those journalists are wrong in my opinion since I doubt any bought a new 991 GT3 as a daily driver..

I killed a few bugs this morning how about you GT3 guys ?

But thanks for the warm welcome on the General Porsche forum....
Everything said about 99.999% of Porsche owners is true..

Cheers

I really do enjoy it, my RS211 will be getting a little lonely sitting all alone in the garage... I may even have to hook up a battery tender for the first time....

Ronin hats of to you on your Lotus and the J Leno piece was probably his most enjoyable piece of last year for me - he properly looked like he was having fun too - someone like you needs to be running Lotus as your car is off the chart.

Sidicks you are so arrogant and defensive about your own choice of steed its beyond comprehension.

Now back to choosing which colour deviated stitching I'm having on my next car.
Thanks IMIA, Jay dug the car since he is a Lotus and Porsche fan.. He did have an issue with bouncing off the rev limiter a few times due to the quick revving 1.8 ltr. turbo catching him off guard...
I've been a Porsche fan for as long I can remember after my first ride in a 912 back in the 60's and as soon as I could afford one a 911 was in the driveway...

I think I know better than anyone how a car should perform "for me". After all it's my car and I know the canyons I want to drive.
I've bounced back and fourth between Porsche and Lotus over the years and have always said if you can only afford one car make it a Porsche but a Lotus will always out handle it in the twisties, just a fact...sorry.

The GT3 has always been the benchmark on track here in California until the day I asked a Porsche Cup racer to take the keys to my 290whp modified Lotus for a few laps around high speed Willow Springs in order to get some feed back from a guy that really knows how a car should perform on track.
So three laps later he beats his own GT3 Cup time by over a second in a street legal Lotus...
As I said the GT3 was the benchmark....
And "I" believe the 991 Turbo S beats it all around but this is just my opinion and you are all free to have yours..
As for lap times the Turbo S is faster, road going comfort and canyon driving still the Turbo S is better in my opinion...

Si-dick you are so typical it makes me smile, you really are a si-dick... laugh

That is my playground and test road to see if my old ass dyno can tell if I've hurt or helped the cars performance when I start tweeting things.
Now it's time to take the S out for a few more canyon miles and smiles...
I can't imagine any other car ever being better than the S as an all round daily driver....

I'm in the very best of both worlds now and I'm one seriously lucky camper to be able to enjoy both great cars on some of the best roads anywhere....

I did have to persuade my wife that I needed another mental car in the family. She knows me too well so it wasn't a very hard sell.. wink

You do not have to agree with him but no harm in being polite when disagreeing with him. Just saying....you make us all look like tits....
Which of my posts were not polite? I pointed out that a few hours weren't really enough to make an informed decision and that if you drive it properly the fact that the car has (much) less torque than a Turbo S is somewhat irrelevant!

It was ronin that got aggressive and rude!

It's always the jack offs like this chump si-dick to muck up a discussion... Too worried about deprecation to beat on the car due to a loss of value....
Ya may as well save your girlfriend for the next guy too.... wavey

I put on another 220 miles on my S today and have to scrape the dead bugs off once again.. I bought my S to drive and so glad I made the right move...
It was nice of a new black 991 GT3 owner to pull over to let me and my biker buddies pass safely in the canyons this morning...
All I could do was smile as I waved thanks, I'd bet he is now wondering if he bought into the hype and is now having second thoughts.... biggrin

There is no substitute for a proper road car that can smoke track cars with ease..... just sayin

Si-dicks when you come off as an utter bell end you don't get nice you get what you deserve...

Nice is what I give friends and those I respect and I can clearly see you will never be in that category.

The turbo S is just the better car as it should be for the price... period

If you should have the funds I highly recommend it....

Look si-dick you tossed out the insults first so don't cry because you made a poor Porsche choice and jumped into the 991 GT3 due to all the hype, we all make mistakes, even I did but I was lucky to come to the conclusion I F'ed up and was able to upgrade before I had to live with it....

Some people like chocolate and some people like really superior vanilla....

Did I tell ya that a 290whp Lotus will smoke a GT3 on track ?

I really dig my 991Turbo S and my RS211 Lotus...but I'm not a track guy and could care less about lap times or rules..

Enjoy your GT3 and keep an eye on those miles ya never know when you might wanna upgrade and trade in values are subjective to abuse...just sayin

Ahh the 90*f sunshine was delightful today in the Santa Monica Mountains with A/C flowing through the seat backs.....

Forums should be like a virtual pub, somewhere you can sit down and relax and have a pint talking to strangers about a common shared interest.

A point we would all do well to remember is this - Would you say, what you are about to say, face to face to the bloke in the pub?

If the answer is no then don't post!
clap
Right on the money...

Being banned on forums yeah so what... It's like this, imagine you're the new kid in school and the school bully tries to take your lunch money, so you break his nose and they suspend you for not taking crap from bullies....
Now enough of this..

It's the torque that makes all the difference in my driving world. You can't run the canyons at 7,000rpm with a limited torque curve all day as you would on a track in a GT3 and that's why the car failed my expectations of being the car to have...
The S has the perfect torque curve for the canyons add massive grip to use it, that's what makes it the perfect car...
Don't cry if I talk about Lotus performance vs Porsche since I have both and speak from experience...

I played with the suspension and shifting settings while running with a few R1s in the twisties and found it hard to beat the Sport and Auto shifting of the S.
Every time I was about to make a shift up or down the Auto box was right there anticipating my next move.
It's torque that pulls you out of a tight corner, it's horse power the gets you there...
The Turbo does both better than the GT3 in the real world...just sayin
